Hey,
Hubby and I just got back from I Robot and I had some thoughts....

1-We have been trying to support good sci-fi and this is pretty good especially compared to things out there like Chronicles of Riddick(which I have heard isn't great, but haven't seen it) The more sci fi gets support I figure it may help the cause of a continuation BG movie.

2-My hubby read the book and knew the original story well and when we first heard Will Smith was in it he was not sure if he could picture him as the cop in this story because he says Asminov's cop was very different from a "Will Smith" character(based on past characters he had played like Men in Black, Independence day etc...) But it worked..I think for the most part we felt like he pulled it off..I don't know that Will Smith is the deepest actor I have ever seen but he is certainly entertaining.

3-I got a new view into the TOS vs Mini debate after thinking about this movie. What I came up with is this, if you were a purist of the original I Robot you probably won't like this updated version of the story. But, if you are like me and know very little about the original(I am ashamed to say) I had no preconcieved notions and came out thinking the movie was pretty good and entertaining. So I started thinking it was like TOS and the mini. See I am not passionate about Asminov's original story but I, and a lot of people are very passionate about Battlestar.

In addition the way the mini was handeld and all of the other BS that went on added to the heat of the debate and the hurt feelings etc...this didn't happen with this movie(as far as I know.) I know there are some people upset by this version of I Robot and I could see it from both sides on this. For me again it came down to passion. Mine stands with TOS and I still have faith!

Just some observations...... :salute:

Amber...
What did you think about what I said to comparing it to TOS???

I can see your point and agree with it. ;)

This time last year I would not have, I was caught in the flame wars and clones. My eyes were shut to any other views but those who shared the same as mine.
I will always be a purist when it comes to BSG, but now having time to reflect, and the anger has gone, I can see both sides too.

I don't support Moore's mini or have watched more than five or ten min. of it , but it does exist and does have fans. Some remember and love BSG ToS and the mini too. Others watched the mini for the first time unaware that Tos ever existed, and were drawn into the new show.
Still there are those, like me, who believe that Tos does have a future and would give their right arms to see their heros fight to see another day.
It took me a long time to see but the Universe is large enough for all fans of BSG. No matter wich version you support. Moores' mini did draw attention to TOS and may have even drawn in new fans of the old serries.
My heart will always be with TOS and when the day comes that we see the Big G fly in a movie...... that will be the day we will know that dreams do come true.

Well said Amber and I agree with you because I was the same as you...I love my TOS and want it back with all my heart. But as I said after seeing I-Robot it got me thinking....I have made it clear I didn't like the mini and I have hurt feelings and bitter dissapointment about it and it is because I am passionate about TOS...I am Keeping the Faith!

Thanks Amber for the feedback!

Julix -

I did see it - I never read the book, but I wasn't overly thrilled with the film. The only thing about it that was any note (IMHO), was the production design. I did comment a bit more about (no spoilers) it at Cylon Alliance, but I wanted to give more people a chance to see it.

Best,
Bryan

Hey Bryan,

Thanks for the comment...I know there were very divided feelings on this movie...I guess for me sometimes it is expectations. I didn't expect much from it so I thought it was pretty good and there are movies when I expected a lot and have been disappointed. Also so little good sci-fi out there............ :salute:
