View Full Version : Two wrongs do make a right!

Everybody know Tom always pushes his sytem to failure. And welll... it breaks down alot. :)

But this time I proved two wrongs DO make a right!

My new external USB hard drive went south...AGAIN. I have a sneaky suspicion that data is being held in the buffer. And drives are stupid, but loyal. You give it data, it will DIE to protect it. And well... that's what I think was going on. STUPID DRIVE! *whack* Drives consider your data to be very important, and it was doing EVERYTHING it could to not lose it. Even if it means quarantining itself from the main system.

Remember that episode where Teal'c got stuck in the Stargate's buffer and they couldn't use the stargate cause that would kill him? Well.... same thing.

:D

But then a drive that refuses to be part of your computer isn't really helpful. So.....

So the drive isn't letting go... powering the thing odd don't work. unhooking it and leaving it off for a day don't help...so what's a Tom to do?

SHOCK TREATMENT, of course!

I only had two choices left... blunt physical trauma (a sledge hammer) or electrical shocks....I figure electricity would do less damage... So I took the power plug and repeatedly tapped it on the connector. DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF! I highly recomend you not try this as this seems to me to be the worst way I can imagine to fix a drive...besides the sledgehammer. Sending electrical spikes into the drive seems like a recipe for disaster.

BUT IT WORKED!!!!!

Tom,

I had a picture in my mind as to what you might look like after applying the SHOCK TREATMENT. This isn't exactly it but, it's close:

The hair is a little too neat and no singed eyebrows and hair, no soot marks on the face!

I use to have a boss who was MUCH worse than me. He use to daily work with installing electrical outlets and overhead lighting and all sorts of electircal good stuff. And he did it WITHOUT turning off off the power! Nor gloves!

Me and electricity do NOT get along! I would never do something like that!

One time I plugged in the Christmas tree lights and the socket emitted a huge flash knocked out all the lights, covered me in black powder and I got a very nice pain in my hand... scared the crap out of me!

Another time I was renting a room from someone when I was in college (the first time) and they gave me the fridge in the basement to use. I was terrified of it because every now and then when I touched the handle it would zap me hard. The first time I grabbed the handle it trapped me there for over 5 minutes I could not let go my whole body convulsing it was horrible no feeling in my arm for an hour afterward.

Then there was the time I was doing some rewiring in my house and the person who had done it before me had switched the colours of the wires and I had not paid attention to this when I took it apart I just matched the colours together like the book said and turned on the power yikes! that was fun!
3 times in my life lightning has struck within a hundred feet of where I stood, one case it hit the electric wire close by to me and it broke the wire which went wiping through the air sparking like crazy...
The list goes on ... :D ;)

I'm curious does anybody have street lights go off when they walk under it and come back on after they walk away...or is that just me?

This is one thing I've wanted to ask people and keep forgetting 'cause it happens at night when I go for a walk and then in the AM I've forgotten all about it until the next time. It usually happens when I'm out for a walk because I'm upset.

That reminds me I've had many instences where as I walk by vehicles and buildings their alarms go off... coincidence? Would 4 times in one night be a coincidence?;) :D

Rowan, hubby and I could have used your :duck: sparking personality early Sat. morning. A very smashed guy was using our street for a drag strip and hit the pole at the corner knocking out our power until that afternoon. The loser totaled his pickup and split the pole, necessitating a new one being placed there and the strangest thing was he walked away with no injuries!

Drunk drivers almost always walk away from an accident, the key to surviving a car accident is to be completely relaxed on impact...

In Quebec if you did that you are billed for the cost of replacing the pole.

I think even my sparkling personality would not have been enough in this case bsg! LOL!;) :D
