What is your favorite fantasy (not sci-fi) film?
My favorite of the classics (in fact, it's my all-time favorite "old" movie) is the 1937 Frank Capra/Ronald Colman film "Lost Horizon." It is incredibly mesmerizing and I never tire of watching it. I have no idea how many times I've read the novel, either.
A distant second would probably be "The Wizard of Oz." I still cry when I hear "Over the Rainbow." Two others would be "Oh, God" and "Mary Poppins."
I don't know if I have a favorite contemporary fantasy film. It would probably be "Beauty and the Beast," but since it's animated, I don't know if that counts.

off the top of my head I'd say the Princess Bride, and the Dark Crystal I can watch them over and over, but I also loved LOTR

The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, no other movie comes even a close second for me.

Loved both of these movies - own them, in fact.

LOTR - I'm a huge fan here, too.

Anybody else like LadyHawke?

But are those disaster movies, Rowan?

Huh??

I thought Mary was asking about "fantasy" films, not "disaster" films.

My mistake - she was, and I somehow missed the one word..... If you recheck my post, BST, you'll see I fixed it.

I knew there was a reason I liked, you Dawg! You have great taste.

I also liked Labyrinth. It was campy and cheesy, but so much fun.

Nothin' wrong with boys... a good one (or two) even helps make a bad movie seem good.

Oh, and can I add one more? The Goonies. I was obsessed with that movie when it came out and must have seen it a hundred times.

I forgot to send in my "Thanks, but no thanks" card to the DVD club (again, sigh, I am so blonde sometimes!) and I am sure it was unintentional because the selection was Lord of the Rings: RotK... Now it looks like I'll have to own both versions after all! Definitely looking forward to seeing it (not as much as I am looking forward to the extended version of course, but that won't come out for months!) as I missed it when it was in the theater. Looking forward to adding it to my list of favorites.
