Colonial Fan Force Meets $10,000 Goal
Battlestar Galactica fan group will take out national ads voicing continuation support

(VESUVIUS, VA; SPONDON, DERBY, UK) The Colonial Fan Force, a grass-root Battlestar Galactica fan organization, is proud to announce that it has reached its $10,000 fundraising goal, and will be taking out a pair of national advertisements urging series creator Glen A. Larson, X-Men producer Tom DeSanto, and the major Hollywood studios to produce a feature film continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica.

“The final contribution that put us over the top came in the day after the CFF Net-A-Thon,” stated CFF President Bill Gordon, refering to the CFF-sponsored series of online chats with original series stars Richard Hatch (Apollo), Dirk Benedict (Starbuck), and Anne Lockhart (Sheba). A fourth chat with Laurette Spang (Cassiopeia) had to be postponed, and will be held later this month. “We met our goal a full month ahead of schedule,” noted Gordon. “That, in and of itself, should send a message to Hollywood regarding the money there is to be made off a Battlestar Galactica movie.”

Gordon’s sentiments were echoed by CFF UK Spokesman Peter Noble, who said “This is probably the most significant moment in BSG fandom, because never before have so many individuals and websites worked together in this way. We may be a rag tag fandom, but I honestly believe, as did all our contributors, that what we have done is vital to the future of the show and our fandom.” Noble added that the neither the CFF... or its contributors... can afford to rest on their laurels, now that the goal has been met. “Over the coming months there are BSG TOS products being released – Richard Hatch's next novel, two trade paperbacks collecting stories from the old Marvel Comics' series and action figures from two different companies. Buy them. What we've still got to do is show that the show is still a financial gold mine and by buying these products we're doing exactly that.”

CFF West Coast organizer John Pickard noted that the next phase of the CFF effort will be a letter-writing campaign tied to the release of the ads. “The ads will appear in the September issue of Cinescape and the 17 September issue of Daily Variety. Both ads urge Battlestar Galactica fans to write Larson and DeSanto, but it would be nice if we could get a significant number of letters to hit around the time the Daily Variety ad is published.” Updated information will be posted at the CFF’s website, http://www.colonialfanforce.org.

“It’s been a difficult 25 years to be a Battlestar Galactica fan,” admitted Gordon. “But now that the movie rights are in Glen Larson’s hands, and a man with the Hollywood clout of Tom DeSanto has voiced unreserved support for a Battlestar Galactica continuation, our time may finally be at hand.”

Let's keep our fingers crossed and keep working toward that goal!
