Some of you live in areas that are about to be invaded...

...by the cicada. :P:


Yes, it's true, the cicada are about to make their presence known in some parts of the country, this year. They're really harmless but, can be very annoying with the loudness of their "singing". I was surprised to learn, though, that they can have an adverse effect on pets, if the pet eats them.

When I was in college in Cincinnati, these blasted, dreaded, ancientLOUD, swarming, lawn covering, blindly-flying, single-minded (mate, MUST mate) LARGE insects caused car wrecks, made enough noise that it was deafening with the windows shut - there was no avoiding it; they flew straight into people, cars, buildings, open windows. The worst is when they fly right into your ear. Loud. Then they die en masse. Icky. Smelly. Blech. :p:

In short they were like living through about a month long a Hitchcock movie--live. If Hitchcock had really wanted to terrorize people, it wouldn't have been The Birds, it would have been 17 Year Cicadas If the Blair Witch folks wanted to make another cheap horror flick: the area around the University of Cincinati would be where they would want to be the last 3 weeks of May. With lots of lens cleaner for the cameras. Ugh.
