Yesterday evening after much anticipation I finally got the Continuation I have been looking forward to for some time. IRON CHEF is back!

They built a brand new set. This set is technologically more advanced than the original. It's a great set but I do miss some of the exotic charm of the original.

They were able to bring back some although unfortunately not all of the original cast, at least for the first few episodes. Sakai is still Sakai although he is a bit older. Morimoto is still Morimoto athough he is a bit older also. It's been a few years since IC-TOS.

The focus is obviously going to be on the new generation of Iron Chefs. Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, and Mario Bitalli are going to be good. I don't know if they will ever outshine the original cast but I think they will do well in their own right.

They recast the chairman. I don't think the new chairman can ever come close to the eccentric Chairman Kaga. In this area I think the new series made a mistake but I can live with it.

The first episode was called Battle of the Masters and was a trout battle. Both chefs Sakai (from IC-TOS) and Bobby Flay (from IC-TNG) were great. Bobby Flay won the battle but the most important thing is that...Iron Chef is back and in the true spirit of the original! :salute:

If you programmed a Cylon to cook, would they become an Iron Chef?

Cylons as iron chefs?! Bah! Mere toasters, not fit to work chopping croutons!

Your levity clearly indicates that you do not appreciate the profound cultural and entertainment value of the Iron Chef program. Where else can you see a cooking contest elevated to the level of a samuri duel? This is a good cooking show made classic by an intensity which at moments rises to being camp.

No chairman Kaga? Yikes. Well, if I can give BSG 2003 a chance, I should give this a try too.

I watched it, but felt bad. Every challenge, the Iron Chef Americans won. But I had to laugh when Flay and Morimoto teamed up. They did look so lost, especially Flay. Is it me or does he just have bad luck with knives?

My wife and I talked about how the Iron Chefs American won every individual battle. We were a bit sad about it also. I thought Bobby Flay and Wolfgang Puck both made what appeared to be obviously better food. I thought Morimoto was at a disadvantage in his battles however since as a Japanese Chef he likes to serve raw seafood which does not go down well with Americans in general. If we had the usual Japanese judges I think Morimoto would have won in the battle against Mario.

I once watched a battle between Kandagawa (the guy that can't stand Morimoto in Japan) and Sakai. They had on the judging panel an American actress/model who works in Japan. I think her name was Julie Dreyfus. Kandagawa added whale to something he made. At that moment I knew he lost. No American is going to eat whale! When they served the whale soup dish Ms. Dreyfus said something like, "I'm sorry I just can't touch this." It was obvious that neither the Japanese commentator or Kandagawa had a clue what they did wrong. Needless to say Kandagawa lost to Sakai that day. Sometimes who is the judge is more important than the quality of the food.

I was glad to see Morimoto and Flay paired together in the team event. Since they used to have bad blood between them it was good to see them come together and win.

I was annoyed at the one American judge from the high society food magazine (forgot which one). He was very rude to Sakai. I wish I could have reached into the television and choked him!

Poor Flay cut his fingers this time. He nearly electricuted himself on the New York battle. Maybe that's what he gets for standing on the sacred cutting board! :D

Iron Chef has its own version of G-80. There was a pilot for an Iron Chef America show on another network. It had none of the Japanese Iron Chefs to help it start and no one as well know as Bobby Flay or Wolfgang Puck. It did have William Shatner (the scifi connection!) playing the eccentric chairman. :D I think it could have worked but was never picked up. I think everyone pretends it never happened!

Does anyone know?:
Is the current "Iron Chef America" a one time special or is it the start of a new series on the Food Netwok?

I saw the IC episode with William Shatner on DVD. Too funny. He would make a great chairmain. Who is the new chairman?

I'm with you! :salute: William Shatner is the kind of over the top eccentric actor that would have made a great chairman. I don't know the name of the new guy that is the chairman. They claim he is Chairman Kaga's nephew. My wife says he was in the movie "Mortal Combat", but to be honest I don't remember ever seeing him before. The new chairman seems very stiff. His lines are not done very well. Thus far he is the weak link in the show. I get the impression that the commentator, Elgin (?) from the Food Network seems the one most in charge.

I think if this goes to series the "chairman" will either need to loosen up or he will find himself replaced. The guy they have now is way too serious.

If John Calicos was still with us he would have made a good chairman! That guy that does the Cook's Tour on the Food Network would be a good chairman. He knows food and is a bit crazy. The chairman needs to be a person like Kaga that you can believe would ride out on stage on horseback wearing a purple cape, a cow spotted shirt, and revels in a tank of live octopi.

I saw the one with William Shattner. He made an excellent chairman. lol

I got an email back from the Food Network on my rant I sent them, and they said they are trying to make it a new series on the channel. *crossing fingers*
