View Full Version : The return of a hero Update

Well, all parts are cast and the idea worked out great.
Amberstar And Emerita wrote their own scene and did the voice acting for it. Then they emailed it to me and now the first 5 minutes of the last battle scene is done. They are in vipers talking to each other along with Starbuck, Troy and Dylan. While at the same time they are knocking those pesky updated cylon's out of space.

I had full intention of posting a casting call but others came forward behind the scenes and now the whole thing is cast.

Thanks to everyone who have waited for this. I think we are finally in the home stretch of a 90 minute audio continuation and I hope it's what the fans want because I tried to capitalize on the ideas that I read over the last 5 years on the net.

Bryan the only thing that I know of is at Battlestar galactica. com-

If you go to that site, click on community then on forums. once there go to special projects. There you will find the last battle scene. You can read what OWD, Em and myself came up with for the last scene. Let me know what you think. :)

Too late, I already found the thread and read it all - it sounds like it was fun! How did you and Em record your individual parts and then get them to Shawn? I was kind of excited when Shawn posted a link to a partially completed version, but I never found it. I was looking forward to hearing you guys "in character"!

Well the production of the return of a hero, ran into a bit of a
snag and because of that, I have decided to leave 2 scenes out for
now but I will add them in at a later date.

It was decided to make this into 3 episodes and the good news is
that part 2 is completely done and there is very little to do before
part 3 is done also.

Bryan you were looking for some info on this.

Lets see, here is a quick run down of Return of a hero.

First of all, I tried to base it on all the things that I read here and other Galactica boards. All the stuff that the fans said that they would want.

Thousands of Sound pieces were made from the original 24 episodes plus some were made from Galactica 80 in order to use Troy and Dylan as part of the new generation.

The fans are the ones who make up the rest. This production takes the best things from the original, Galactica 80 and Richards books to make one complete continuation.

The fans wanted the return of Starbuck episode from Galactica 80 to be canon in a continuation but the other episodes from Glalactica 80, they wanted to be just a bad dream. This production does that.

They asked for Stu Phillips great musical score. This production has that.

They asked for things to be updated. This production has that.

Guess this wasn't really a quick run down. lol

Spoilers ahead

It's been 20 Yahrens since the last scene in the hand of god. Apollo is once more sitting in the celestial chamber looking at the stars. He is reflecting over the last 20 yarhens and as he does, we get taken back to some of the things that took place.

After the hand of God, Starbuck and Apollo get those medals that they were talking about in the last episode. We get to hear them as Adama gives them their medals. Then we get to hear Adama on his death bed and then his funeral and a 21 lazer gun salute.

Then he remembers how starbuck was lost soon after but they were un sure weither he lived or not after crashing on the planet that we seen him crash land on in the last Galactica 80 episode and yes, most of Galactica 80 ends up being a bad dream of Apollo's.

Cassiopea finds out that she is pregnent right after she is told that Starbuck is missing and presumed dead.

Fast forward 20 Yarhens and we have Starbuck who is still alive . He crashed landed on a planet that he renamed planet Starbuck and just as in that Galactica 80 episode, he made friends with Cy and helped that strange lady but after that took place, he found a part of the planet rich with plant life, fruit and vegtables so he built a home and lived there for 20 Yahrens. The Cylon's knew he was there but didn't bother with him .

One day the beings of light show up and tell him that it's time for him to go home. Then they open up a worm hole. Back on the Galactica, they see the worm hole and get a strange message coming from it. They figure out that it's coming from Starbuck and without Commander Apollo knowing, president Tigh and the council decide that Troy and Dylan should go and rescue Starbuck. Commander Apollo is caught between a rock and a hard place. He want's to rescue Starbuck as soon as possible but he doesn't want to risk his only son to do so but Troy(Boxey) has his mind made up that he is going.

Hints

We get a visit from an old friend with advice and the ending has a surprising twist.

The ending is one hell of a ride and you will here Amberstar kicking cylon but. :)

It was sooooooooo much fun making the final battle scene with Emerita, and getting to fly with the ORIGINAL Starbuck!!!!!!!!! I just hope my voice sounds like a colonial viper pilot!
Part one was great, I can't wait to hear the rest of Owd's audio, after he gets it all together!

Guess all of you will know what I sound like after this ;)
Hope all of you enjoy!

Well................ he he he

All I'm waiting now for is Darrell's Awesome narration at the end of this .
It won't have Dalton in it for now but I will add those scenes in later when the person who will put a voice to her, can do it because I really want her to be Dalton. :)

I'm not sure if she want's me to name her at this point so I won't.

Just what we need in the land of Galactica, another mystery. lol

Anyways, This puppy is so close to being done, we are stretching our knecks accross the finish line. At least for now because Like I said, I would still like to add the Dalton scenes in at a later date. :)

OWD, are there Any plans to add the Dalton Scenes in the future?

Thank you soooooooooo much,

oldwardaggit
May 30th, 2004, 01:34 AM
Yup, In my eyes , this isn't finished until the Dalton scenes are in there with a specific somebody being Dalton and to me this isn't finished until Darrell has the last Narration in there because when Darrell does it, it will be a lot better and we will know more about what Starbuck did once he was back in the fleet plus Darrell is so much better at the Narration thing then I am.

Both things are on my mind because I actually have another CD for some one that I have to produce that is non Galactica related But I would like this project to be done first and while I'm producing my next project, we could maybe come up with some Ideas on how to expand on The Return of a hero with other stories.

This belongs to the fans so anyone can jump in at any time with ideas.

Hey Amber, Em, Darrell and was that Micheleh? you all sounded great. There was a guy's voice or 2 I didn't recognize that also sounded fantastic. That one new/old character is very scary, well done! Great battle scene.

OWD you never cease to amaze me. It's almost spooky to hear Richard's and Dirk's voices in this. But it's so much more right than..... that imposter on SciFi. Thank you for a cool story.

Because I liked the scene with Z (true inside fan joke there) I just didn't want the time the nu-Adama took away from the main story. It felt forced in.

Liked the rest though. And Glen wouldn't recognize his own writing!

oldwardaggit

amberstar = (Can you tell us who Dalton's voice is yet?)

I would but she want's to have the voice work done first before it's official. :)
I respect that and I'm pretty sure Darrell won't tell because she can take him in a fair fight. LOL

jewels= (Hey Amber, Em, Darrell and was that Micheleh? you all sounded great. There was a guy's voice or 2 I didn't recognize that also sounded fantastic. That one new/old character is very scary, well done! Great battle scene. )

The other guy voice that you might be talking about is the one you hear at the council meeting. That was non other then Commander Taggert from CFF. The other femal voice was actually my wife, that is if your talking about the C.O.R.R.A type of on board computer.

(OWD you never cease to amaze me. It's almost spooky to hear Richard's and Dirk's voices in this. But it's so much more right than..... that imposter on SciFi. Thank you for a cool story)

And thank you so much for the pat on the back. I have to give credit where credit is due and if it wasn't for Darrell, this project would have been done half a$$ed. There were many times that I had some pretty dumb ideas while doing this and I'm glad that Darrell had the last say because he weeded the good from the bad plus I'm glad that Darrell had so many good idea's in the first place. They are all over this project. It was his idea to interact the original cast with each other. I was just going to interact them with a few new characters and it would have ended up at about 20 minutes long but Darrell kept me from being lazy with this and 8 months later, we have something to show for it.
Plus all the great voices on this. We couldn't have done it without those great voice actors.
Those voice actors put a lot of heart into each of those parts and I thank them for making this production what it is. :)

Warrior = (When I mentioned to Shawn originally about my wanting to include the BG-80 characters Troy and Dillon in this, he was kinda skeptical.)

Yup I was skeptical. I was like, what? use more of Galactica 80? but you helped me see that it wasn't Troy and Dylan that made Galactica 80 bad. I think we all know why Galactica 80 was bad so I won't beat a dead horse by talking about it. lol

I now know that using Troy and Dylan was a great Idea and having them go on the mission was another great idea of yours and speaking of all this talent that you have, any chance of getting that last narration this week. :):):):):)
I would like to have this complete before turning the beast totally lose. he he he
You must of known that all this kissing up was leading to something. LMAO

Have you ever thought about asking some of the cast to record something with you ? Do you have portable equipment, and do you see many of them at conventions ?

Of course, this is pretty ambitious....but you never know if you don't try !!!

OWD,

The possibilities of what you could be doing with this group is staggering! The quality of the production demonstrates a real talent on your part, and of the many of who’s voices are in the show. There is a real commercial potential here.

And this is my point; one or more successful commercial efforts will lend credence to our efforts to bring back TOS. We are not just a bunch of fans! But a talented group that sees real potential in the old series.

I will offer up the EDF and related stories as possible platforms, I’m sure others have stories that can be adapted as well.

Your right my friend and I feel bad for not finnishing what we had on the go because it can exist in the same Universe as The return of a hero and it is the best idea that I have heard for a BSG side story. Very new and creative and that's something that is missing for the most part in a lot of sci fi today.

I'm happy you Enjoyed it. With out the team, it would have been just some audio with sound effects. The team really put heart in this and I thank them for it.
Plus at first I just wanted to do something easy and quick. About 20 minutes or so but Darrell jumped into the Directors chair and pushed me to do something much bigger. It took a good 8 months to do and seemed like forever but I'm happy with it. The Adama funeral gave me chills when I first gave it a listen back. Chills and a bit of a tear in my eye.

A bit of ( The return of a hero trivia) = Did you know the music used for that Adama scene had a title unknown to me but I knew it was by Mike Oldfield. I later found out that it was called Magellan. The coincidence being that Richard Hatches project is called the great war of Magellan.

Plans? Yup and some Idea's were tossed around but nothing concrete as of yet.
The plans were to touch on some missing pieces of the puzzle. Why did the 13th tribe go in a different direction from the 12 and what tie ins do they have with the ancient civilizations of earth. Plus, why did they leave earth. All mysteries that were going to be explained or may still be explained because we do plan on doing another episode but it's just going to take some time. There are a few projects on the go right now, one of them being a Galactica project and when that one is done, Maybe I can convince the team to start production once again on a new episode. The Cylon cival war is another story to be eventually done, I promiss. ;)

Looks like Auntie Em and Amber managed to kick Cylon butt in pt 3.

Yup they did an awesome job and they have more scenes done for the return of a hero that will be included in the future. Plus any future continuation of this 3 parter, will have a whole lot more of this great team if they still want to do it. :)
