Some of you know that I participate in the Battlestar Callisto Lite RPG, which is a continuation of the original series about 25 yahrens after the original show, but on another battlestar built after the original series, loosely following an idea in Richard Hatch's storyline. Several of our other members participate aboard the Callisto as well.

I recently wrote the following poem as the basis of a Colonial Battle Hymn, which might be sung before battle, and thought some of you might enjoy it.

L

Some Heroes Die...

Some heroes choose to bravely give their all,
To fight the good fight but in battle fall
For our friends, family, people, fleet,
Their lives they give for Cylon defeat.

Some Warriors may choose to die today,
To protect the Fleet, our lives and our way.
For when all else fails, their lives they give
That we might survive, that we might live.

Some give their lives when odds are long,
That all humankind may stand proud and strong.
To those brave souls, we salute and say,
Thank you, heroes, for your gift this day.

Still some must choose to die another day,
To fight the good fight, but then walk away.
For while some brave souls must give their all,
Others must stand and refuse to fall.

When that choice is made, whatever my fate,
To live and fight on, or through death’s dark gate,
Then if die I must, my life I yield,
To protect our way, our fleet to shield.

Amberstar and Jewels,

Thanks! Regarding the origin, in our story, a long-time character realizes that he is overwhelmed when the rest of his flight is destroyed in a fierce battle, but he knows to that success in the rest of the mission depends on him staying where he is and fighting until the end. With an open mike, he recites part of the hymn as he continues the fight alone, and when silence ensues, the people on the bridge picked up on the song to complete it for him. One of my fellow writers sent me a note saying that she couldn't believe that he had been killed, but as the song said, some heroes die.

Hi everybody!

Lucian, when I read that yesterday, I thought that was a cool idea and it worked so well in the story. I think I actually had a teary eye as one of our long-time NPC's died in battle!!! Great job!!!

As for the rest here on CF, I play Col. Charybdis, SIC to Commander Sheba on the Battlestar Callisto.

Please visit our half-operational old (but new) site at: www.battlestarcallisto.net

Feel free to join if you like Richard's continuation vision and play along with us! It's great fun!!!
