He answered some questions from Aaron too. Excellent.

At last! An interview where the questions weren't all negative, where Richard had to defend himself! I was so sick of reading such articles! For the past two years, I've just skimmed over them and rolled my eyes.
At last! an interview where Richard imparted some new information about the rest of his career, and even his family! I actually learned some things about the man I hadn't read before. (I'm really curious as to what he was offered on General Hospital--do you think it was Rick Springfield's Noah Drake character?)

And Hatch had some positives to say about the miniseries & RDM too.
Can Dirk Benedict signing on for a role be far behind??

From what I recall, Tracy B stated that Dirk would only be interested in playing Starbuck, that is the real one that we still all love to this day.

And if he were offered a really good role that would let him stretch as an actor, you don't think he'd consider it? (Think Cain.) I don't see why not.

I don't know- it's gotten to be less about the roles or the actors, in this case, than the thought that since Richard has abandoned his 'purity' and 'moral high ground' that Dirk has to carry that torch... I don't understand that line of reasoning, but I've seen allusions in many threads.

I don't think it's so far-fetched to see Dirk on the new BSG.
After all, he appeared on The Lowdown BSG special for Sci-Fi.
He might even play Starbuck's dad, and that would certainly qualify as a "Starbuck" role, right?

Hey now! Gotta represent for my Starbuck Katee. The Starbuck with a smile that lights up the room and one hell of a roundhouse punch.
Hands in the air! :muffit: :muffit: :muffit: :muffit: :muffit: :muffit:

I always thought Starbuck could light up a room. But his name was Starbuck, not Kara. Dirk, not Katee.

Though you're free to love Katee, I think the director could have helped her with a better punch/or shot of her punch. ;) For me the characters can't even be compared.

Thanks for the link, kingfish. It was a very good interview. Richard does not simplify his responses, he answers with depth and detail.

A particular remark caught my attention, specifically due to how I had lamented that the BSG 2003 was not about storybook heroic types like the original, but rather had too many flawed and imperfect types. I might have laughed out loud upon reading this from Richard:
Characters who were your run-of-the-mill sexy leading man characters were honestly not of interest to me. I always wanted to play roles that were flawed and imperfect, and maybe that's because that's how I saw myself. I didn't see myself as the sexy, leading man, hero type. Although, later on the leading man in television did become more complex and flawed. They've subsequently begun to redefine that paradigm.

Dirk Benedict was on the "lowdown". Dirk Benedict has also played a main character on another SCIFI made for TV movie. I read he turned down the role of the armistice station officer but that was related to the small content of the role as opposed to feelings about the mini.

I don't know if we'll see Dirk Benedict in the series but it would not surprise me. Just like Richard Hatch's situation this series would be a good publicity vehicle for any actor associated with TOS.

The Richard Hatch interview was great. It also feeds my growing perception of him. It seems he has grown considerably as a person, actor, and businessman since his early days in TOS. I continue to read and see a person who had stardom go to his head but has with time came to appreciate what he has and the fans who love him. I don't think I would have enjoyed having lunch with Richard Hatch in 1979 but I bet I would love having lunch with him today.

A lot of what he says about the mini is pretty objective. I hope this is a good role for him. I look forward to seeing him in the new series next year.

He's a treat to be sure, but if you catch him in a crazy mood.....be prepared for a wild ride. Great sense of humor which can strike from nowhere.

Seeing Dirk fondled and ultimately killed by the Cylon # 6 would have been way too much for this fan. I also believe they had wanted Dirk to portray Paul Tigh which he also turned down. Quite possibly he could have brought some depth to this character minus the punch in the face from Ms. Fake Starbuck aka Katee "DEAL WITH IT!" Sackhoff. :barf: :barf: :barf:

Given Hatch's history, statements and subsequent reversal regarding the current version of Galactica, there's no reason but naivete to believe that anything any other actor connected with the original has said about the series is not similarly open to revision.

But then, that's up to the actor, isn't it?

I don't expect DB to appear. But I don't expect Richard's appearance to matter in the long run, either.

Movie.

Depends on who one talks to, Dennis. They are all individuals with their own values. I won't fault them if they do take a role, but there are some I highly expect to hear have given RDM very polite turn downs.

I agree with Dawg.

Movie.

Eyes on our prize and Richard is still Apollo, Dirk is still Starbuck.

Based on the RDM interview I conducted approximately 6 weeks ago, he plans to approach some of the other stars of TOS. Dirk Benedict was mentioned by name (his words, not mine).
So don't be rash & say never.
It can happen.
But if it doesn't, I won't lose sleep either. They have plenty of stories to tell- with or without Dirk!

Quincy was good too.

There are much worse shows than most of Larson's on the tube today. And I'm only thinking about scripted shows, those adventures in voyeurism (reality TV) don't count.

Trust him or not he has the RIGHTS to the property.

On a side note, Larson also created Magnum P.I.

He turned down so many great roles only to make a comeback in this dreck. I heard that he was up for the role of Commander on B5. There he could have made a difference and once again shot to stardom.

Life is a learning experience. When you stop learning, you stop living.

Richard Hatch's appearance on the RDM series means nothing. Nothing except an actor we know has taken an acting job. Period. For a TOS-only fan to read anything more into that is to validate the RDM vision.

This I have learned.

Based on his last few interviews, I take it that Richard has learned that to maintain a positive, active and profitable career in that business means occasionally taking a role that might not be perfect. I have learned similar professional lessons, so I cannot fault him for taking a role that I might not want to watch him in. I mean, really, now - haven't any of you held jobs you really didn't like, but took to further your growth and profitability?

I hope - and trust - that Richard will far outclass his co-stars in the episode he's in - and more power to him. I hope - and trust - that his performance will be the highlight of the entire season, and those who do watch are pleased.

I don't care.

Richard Hatch is Apollo. Dirk Benedict is Starbuck. MOVIE.

Dawg is indeed the "Great and Wise Guru" of online BSG fandom - His words are indeed inspiring and I agree with them 100 percent. Besides the fact that Richard's choices were either to accept work or not - I'm behind him accepting it, regardless of where the offer came from. I, for one, would like to see him in front of the camera again. I wish him the best with it.
