DeSanto Keeping His Eye On Colonial Fan Force Effort
Sources close to X-Men Producer say DeSanto is eager for another shot at Battlestar Galactica

(VESUVIUS, VA; SPONDON, DERBY, UK) Sources close to Tom DeSanto have confirmed to the leadership of the Colonial Fan Force that the X-Men producer is, indeed, aware of the CFF effort, and is keeping a close eye on the progress of the campaign. "It is better if this is done without Glen's or Tom's blessings," a DeSanto insider told the CFF's US organizer Bill Gordon. "Because it shows the support they have is unsolicited." That sentiment was confirmed by a second well-placed source in an email to the CFF's UK spokesman Peter Noble. "He can't endorse, since he's one of the people targeted by your campaign," the source wrote, "but he'd love to jump on Battlesta as soon as Transformers gets sorted out." Both sources spoke to the CFF on the condition of anonymity.

"We couldn't have asked for better news," said Gordon. "There are fans out there who may have been reluctant to contribute to the CFF because they just weren't sure the message would be heard. Now, they can be assured that it will. That, in a way, it already has."

"In fact, this makes meeting our goal more critical than ever," added Noble. "We've got DeSanto's attention, but we'll lose it quickly if we don't deliver the ads. This is finally our chance to be heard, and to accomplish something that could actually make a difference. I really hope this will motivate anyone sitting on the fence to go ahead and make their contribution now."

The goal of the Colonial Fan Force is to raise $10,000 for the purchase of full-page ads in the 17 September 2004 issue of Daily Variety, and the September issue of Cinescape magazine. The ads are intended to send a message of support to series creator Glen A. Larson (who holds the movie rights to the Battlestar Galactica franchise) and DeSanto, whose efforts to create a television continuation of the original Galactica were unfortunately derailed. The campaign has raised more than $4,000 in only six weeks.
