View Full Version : Tom and Glen: Condition Met!

Back at Galacticon, we all asked Glen Larson if the new series would hurt our chances for a revival. And he replied that the two shows were completely different creatures. That new DOES NOT have a direct effect on the old. At least not the one all us fans were expecting (that the new one will kill the old).

Larson said whether the new show is a hit or a failure that doesn't have a direct relation to the old show's revival. This was echoed by Tom Desanto, twice.

What they said was the major factor was if people still WANTED the old show after the new one aired.

And I look around, even outside our hearty little band, and I see that things haven't changed. People still love BG with a passion. And they would LOVE to see the old heroes return.

Tom and Glen,

CONDITION MET. I'm looking forward to seeing your movie.

-Sincerely,
that other not so important Tom
:)

I believe we are going to get our film.

Glen Larson has the rights, and has cleared all the legal obstacles. Tom Desanto can bring in the funding and WANTS to do it after he finishes Transformers and Xmen3. DVD sales were solid. The game did well. People still love that old show with the same ferver.

it will just take a few years. :)

Hey could we all go see it together when it comes out? I wont have anyone to share it with otherwise....I'll have to sit in the movie theater alone....so that would be really cool!:D

This is a great post....

It also relates to something I mentioned in another thread - Some people were worried that Richard's appearing in the mini might make a Continuation less likely.

This isn't the case from what I have read above. It only matters that Larson and DeSanto understand there is still the interest in the Continuation.

The CFF targets them and should continue to do so.... It is in their direction that all should focus....

As I have been saying -so far at least- a "new" BSG is better than no BSG IMO. Being a diehard of TOS, that will always be #1 in my heart, but I'm willing to give the new one a shot.

Well said Tom!
Now we just need to help CFF to reach that goal! Those addds will show Larson we still want TOS!

I'm glad everyone liked this post. I think it was mentioned before, but you really have to bring a subject up now and then to remind us that there is still hope.

I guess I'll talk about Richard Hatch in one of the Hatch threads. But briefly, I don't think Hollywood cares what he is in. Its just a matter of if fans are angry at him. So if fans begin to hate him for it. Then that makes it hard to sell him as Apollo again. Which may hurt selling a movie based on Apollo and Starbuck. Its a weird logic. But that's hollywood.

Man, could you imagine if we all showed up en masse at some poor, unsuspecting Cineplex on opening night?

Bless you, Thomas, for that positive message of inspiration. The CFF is all about letting Messrs. Larson and DeSanto know their condition has been met, and I will repeat here what I said at CA: The leadership of the CFF has no plans to remove the image of Apollo from the current ad layouts.

And for those who say the revival effort is over, I ask you this: Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, No! And it's not over now!

Now let's reach our goal and send a shout out to California!

I may be a history nut and I generally know my pop culture well, but when it comes to comedy, I do better with injoke references to the Jack Benny era than the John Belushi era. :D

Re: Benny: Learned that Rancho Cucamonga was a real place when I was in LA last fall (every time they're in the train station on Benny's radio show the background announcer says the name with relish.)

Oh, Animal house trivia: Miami University of Ohio claims their frats inspired the movie. Something about the writers did their undergrads there....

It's funny...being the hardheaded soul that I am, I sort of perceived the mini/new series as a defeat for TOS. I'm glad to know that I was quite wrong. I'm also glad to know that there are a number of stalwarts out there that still want a continuation to happen. I really needed to read a post like Tom's today. There really is still hope. And hey, what's a few more years to wait? If the movie comes about via Larson and DeSanto, it'll be worth it!

:salute:

P.S. Coming from a 33 year old who's equally defensive about age, 32 is not old!

As one who never visited a Battlestar site prior to the mini, I was very happy to see how alive Battlestar Galactica is. I loved TOS and simply assummed that the franchise was dead. I was amazed to see the interest on the web. If anything I think the mini may have helped a lot of us realize just how alive TOS is. I never even knew there was a continuation effort until I visited Battlestargalacticaclub. I don't know if I believe the mini will help bring a TOS continuation but I can say in my case at least I am one fan who now is supporting a continuation (and the mini) all because the mini showed me to the right places. I think that if all Battlestar fans were like me we would have a continuation. I just hope more people who stay at home, go to work, and never thought to find their way here are motivated by the mini to check this site, Battlestargalacticaclub, or cylon alliance out.l :)

Antelope you are very correct IMHO. I think you are absolutely right. Can't prove it but it sounds right.

Hollywood doesn't care about story. Always remember, they just want money (and power). Think of all the times the networks have forced changes that the fans hated.

They AXED the first Darren Stevens and replaced him with another. Charmed which is based on the power of three sisters saw the main sister replaced by a relation they never heard of cause they didn't like Shannon Doherty. Dallas had that one episode which made all the past year a dream of Pam Ewing. And we got Galactica 80 right?

I remember an old show I liked called the Greatest American Hero where they changed the name of the main character the second year! Same acter. Same person. Different name!

The same lack of loyalty to the original show that spawned such a different reincarnation also means that they won't have any loyalty to the new one IF it means money.

The studios don't care about storylines and if stories conflict. They only care if it will generate money. And I think the fans have shown BG is still viable. Look at how many people were upset. Look at how many people were attracted back to the name Battlestar Galactica.

The one way I would guess it would effect a revival is in legalities. You can't do a revival on tvunless Univeral gives its permission. No problem, Larson has the legal rights to do a theatrical version. But there is also the strange situation that Tom Desanto and his crew did all that art and storywork for a bg production that got turned into the miniseries. That may mean all that work is legally owned by the Scifi Channel. That means Larson and Desanto may have to restart from scratch. But then... they can. And I believe they will.

:D

Ditto for me. Although, any financial contribution will have to wait until my tax return: I'm out of propane for the furnace and the mortgage & credit card bills are due. 'Tis the price of being a poorly paid public servant I suppose.
