This kind of thread is a lot of fun, launchcruiser, but it really doesn't belong in the "Help" section, it's more of a "Cafe" kind of thing - so that's where I've moved it.

My favorite quote, off the top of my head, is from Living Legend:

Cylon: Sir, if I may...

Baltar: Not now, I want to see the destruction of the last battlestar.

Cylon: I really think you should take a look at the other battlestar.

I loved the Favorite BSG lines thread - it was hysterical. So many lovely memories! But it's cool to remember other shows as well, so this is great...

Star Trek IV had some great Spock Lines - the whole Colorful Metaphor exchange was just priceless. I also liked in Relics - don't remember the exact words - but when Scott is teaching Geordi "How can you expect to be a miracle worker if you tell him the truth about how long it will take!" - something along those lines.

Was Real Genious considered SciFi? Val Kilmer's "Why is that thing on your head" - "Because if I wear it anywhere else it chafes" is still recited regularly in my home. Most of the lines from that movie are recited regularly in my home... if you haven't seen it, please do - you'll laugh yourself silly.

Then there was Star Wars... "Laugh it up Fuzzball" comes to mind.

Sigh - Y'know, I've always loved SciFi - nearly any flavor. BSG was always my favorite, but there was a lot of other good stuff out there, too.

My fave is from Star Trek, where Kirk and Spock say something along these lines...
"The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one."

Also I like it when Starbuck says, "With troops like these who needs cylons".
Can"t remember what episode it is from...............

I think that was Gun on Ice Planet Zero - when they were taking all the convicts down to blow up the guns on the Cylon planet. The prisoners themselves just... weren't getting along. ;)

My favorite TS quote was a small throw-away punch line, but it was good.
Scotty is working hard at drinking the alien under the table. They have each consumed a large quantity of many things, and the supply is running low. Scotty remembers something he has been saving for a special occasion, and he pulls a fancy bottle of something out of a cabinet. The alien looks baffled.
Alien: "What is it?"
[long pause while Scotty holds up the bottle and examines it]
Scotty: "It's green!

ROTFL - I actually remember that line! Scotty was always my favorite - and not just for the accent, either. He just seemed to be the... practical one. Probably why I like the Tyrol character so well - the one getting the work done without getting much of the glory. If I heard it once, I heard it a million times... "I'm given her all I got, Captain!"

If you'll indulge me: Comic book icon Walt Simonson, the man who did the original Battlestar comics for Marvel, delivered one of the best dialogues I've ever read when he was writer/artist on The Mighty Thor.

In issue 380, Thor is fighting Jormungand the Midgard Serpent, (World Serpent, he's so long he circles the Earth, or Midguard. Here's the cover: http://users.ev1.net/~peanut/thor-380.jpg ).

It's a battle to the death, ancient prophecies sayying both would be killed. But Thor has been cursed by Hela, the death goddess, not to die.

The dialogue is great, but I can't reproduce it all here. But to get to the climax, Jormungand taunts Thor, telling him since he cannot die, neither will. And that Thor could have avoided their battle, and that since Thor cannot die, he'll live forever in Jormungand's belly.

The battle is epic, and masterfully drawn and written by Simonson. As Thor gathers his power for a final strike, he delivers this soliloquey to the Serpent:

"You said it yourself, Jormungand! The trouble with Godhood is that it robs you of your finer judgement! And that is why we will NEVER be the same! You are a mighty fighter, but in the end, you are only a selfish creature. While heroes...Heroes have an infinite capacity for stupidity. THUS ARE LEGENDS BORN!"

It's really fantastic stuff. Simonson's level of talent is...jaw dropping. He's so creative, yet so well read on his topics. Anything he's written is worth the price of admission. More so if did double duty as writer and artist, because then you're seeing EXACTLY what he wants you to see.

G A

In the novelization of Return of the Jedi, Jabba the Hutt dropped this line on Luke right after the latter tried the "Jedi Mind Trick"

"You're Jedi mind powers won't work on me, boy. I'm not affected by you're human thought pattern."

Then Jabba said this:

"I was killing your kind when being a Jedi meant something."

one film I like to watch again and again is The Omegaman with Charlton Heston and Anthony Zerbe (who I think would make a great Baltar in a new film) here is a few lines I like.

[Talking to his own image on a TV screen]
Robert Neville..(Charltons Character). Hi, Big Brother, how's your ass?

After Neville tosses Lisa a woman that also has survived. a submachine gun]
Lisa: What's this for?
Robert Neville: Comfort.

[Going mad.]
Robert Neville: Is this how it starts? A trip to the laughing academy? No you silly bastard, it starts with you asking yourself silly questions.

Lisa: Alright you son-of-a-bitch, you just hold tight. Up against the wall, you mother!
Robert Neville: My name's Robert.
Lisa: Your name's mud.

A bit of a giggler from "Greetings from Earth", if you know what I mean -

'Starbuck and Apollo, do we have to have that pair?!'

Also, wise words from Scotty in Star Trek III : The Search For Spock -

'The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.'
