On the MB thread, I have been asking Gibbs about the music for the new show.
He is meeting with the producers this week.
If he has it his way, he would like the theme song to start out with Stu Phillips' fanfare & then move into his original score- much like the Star Trek theme preceded Jerry Goldsmith's Next Generation score.

Jim -
Thanks for pointing the thread out - it was interesting reading. I managed to hunt down a copy of the BSG03 soundtrack yesterday (there was only one) and I have listened to it only once at this point, but I did enjoy it. I'll have to take more time to listen to it again - there were some really interesting music pieces on the CD and I want to be able to hear the music without any distractions.
For one, the drum pieces were a lot better than I remember them. A fair amount of the soundtrack really did suffer when it came to the editing of the miniseries. There were tracks on the CD that I couldn't even place as they just didn't stand out in the scenes they were used in. I also like the tracks where they had the soft, tribal vocals being used - a very interesting element indeed.
I hope that Mr. Gibbs gets his way with an opening title theme - it would be nice to have something more in the way of a "signature" piece that folks can immediately tie to the series. I hate the trend of some new shows these days, that just abandon an opening theme with the credits - I don't know it just seems wrong to an old guy like me...
Best,
Bryan

Hey Bryan:
You know you're getting old when you start purchasing CDs of old shows (Logan's Run, V: The Series, The Incredible Hulk, Man from Uncle) & actually enjoy listening to them all over again.
Let's hope Gibbs can incorporate part of TOS score in the opening theme. That would be awesome.

I think adding the original theme would help the new show. I thought the new show lacked really stirring music and I think that was one of the strongpoints of the original show.
Plus it will help older fans adapt to the new show.
And well... the old theme was just plain out GOOD.
