Could anyone else here see Avery Brooks as "Tigh" in a more traditional "Battlestar Galactica" production? The moment I heard of this new series I hope that RM might try to get Mr. Brooks to read for the part> This was before I realized that there would be little of "Traditional" roles/Character developments in the new series.
What about "Boomer" I always liked the Herbert Jefferson type role, who would you pick for that if "Traditional" Character Roles were going to be used in the new Production? Would anyone consider Will Smith or Tony Todd?
I realize these are mute questions at this point, I just was curious if any other fans here have considered who they might have liked next to Mr. Olmos as "Adama", who by the way, I thought was an excellent choice by RM for that part. Cheers!

Most definitely. I think Avery Brooks would been an excellent choice as Tigh, in a more traditional re-telling of the story. I enjoyed his work on DS9.

Avery rules, but I'd hope he'd do more than be a yes man like the original Tigh.

Absolutely agree Baltar/I would have given him a lot better dialog/roles and situations to act with. He would have been Exectutive officer first/Adama's friend second, and had a more interactive role in the storylines than we saw in TOS.
What about "Boomer" who would you have picked for that role?

I agree with you that Avery Brooks would make a Magnificant Colonel Tigh

Terry's Col. Tigh was hardly a yes man. He tangled with Adama more than once (he allowed Starbuck and Boomer to be ready to launch while he convinced Adama to send a patrol to look for Apollo in Lost Warrior. He had his own run ins with the Cof12 and Siress Trinia as well.

That was one of my favorite all time Colonel Tigh scenes. And I loved
the scene with Siress Trinia as well
Terry was one of the reasons why I was upset at RDM changing the race
of Colonel Tigh ...........when actors like Avery Brooks are out there .........
there was no excuse to turn yet ANOTHER minority character into a
caucasion. There are plenty of actors out there who were perfectly
capable of playing Colonel Tigh ........if ONLY RDM had given them the
chance.
As for the 70's hair that he was so insistent on getting rid of ..........
perhaps HE should take his 'own' advice ................

The doctor from Now and Again could have done a good job as Col. Tigh as well.

Isn't he the guy in the recent Allstate commercials? Yeah, he'd be a good choice, too.

COL Tigh's surprise uniform inspection scene with Apollo and Starbuck prior to their departure to Carillon is a classic to me!

I loved that scene! I especially loved the way he was able to cover up
the TRUE reason he was getting the uniforms

What other character besides Tigh was changed from minority to Caucasian?

What is the big deal with race/gender?!?!? Can’t someone be chosen (man or woman) because they fit the PART? Did Wild Wild West suck because James West was played by a black man? Did the first Batman suck because Bruce Wayne had a thinning hair line? Was the 2nd Batman bad because the Catwoman was a blond? Did anyone have a problem with Mary Jane in Spiderman because she wasn’t a natural redhead?
The only change that I can understand is all the TOS fans being upset with is Starbuck’s. Why is that? Because although the old Starbuck was a rebel (like the new one) and a loose canon (like the new one) and a skilled pilot (like the new one) and smoked cigars (like the old one), he was a womanizer – whoops - a *female* can’t “play the field” like the SB of old because she’d then be a…I won’t say it. Talk about double standards.
RM said that no one would have been able to fit into Benedict’s shoes. No one. And he was right. Whomever he chose, there’d be a large population of TOS fans that would have hated him. This way everyone hates the new one. At least it’s a level playing field.
[end rant]
Of all the problems I thought BSG03 had, gender/race swapping was nowhere on the list. My first reaction to seeing SB as a woman was shock but I got over it and ended up somewhat liking her character. Sure, she’s no Dirk Benedict, but she was never meant to be. I liked the new Boomer (a) because she seemed to be more than just a sidekick ala TOS and (b) Park a capable actress (in addition to being way cute).

Boomer65, my issue with the new Starbuck and Boomer isn't that they're women. It's the "Holier than thou--Look how progressive we are" attitude of the Moore and his so-called production. Yeah, they changed two of the main male characters to women. At the expense of the strong female characters of the original! Anyone see anybody remotely resembling strong female characters like Serina, Cassiopeia or Athena in the Mini?

I thought Boomer was tough and tender. I thought the Pres, strong and resilient (after her stupid move when Apollo was on the ship and Cylons were closing in that is). So yeah, I did see some strong female characters in the mini. Personally, of all the female characters, I cared the least for Starbuck - she was over the top.

And let's not forget Lt. Sheba ...................she was exceptionally strong in many,
many of her scenes.
