fanfic challenge... or bridge

Was just thinking, since my brain wants continuity, could a fan fic be written that somehow ties the original and the mini together?

No alternate universes either, it's too easy.

I also know that most want these two separated completely, which I understand. However for fun was thinking of a way these two could be tied together.


Maybe something like the original Galactica found Earth, however most of human civilization was wiped out by war, or plague. The Galactica and her fleet help the remaining Earthlings rebuild the society, possibly having a cure to the plague. The civilization now rebuilds for a couple hundred years (or more) as a merging of Earth and Colonial peoples/influences.

Other worlds are colonized and the people re-establish their 12 mother colonies.

Lessons of the past are forgotten and the new colonials invent robots to aid their daily lives. Out of ironic rememberance they call them Cylons.

This brings us into the current mini series. This also explains Earth names, similarities, and the call signs are homages to the legendary heroes of past.


Just some entertaining thoughts, and I don't think it could ever be logically incorporated, but it gives some mental exercising.


Anyone else have ideas?

I posted a pretty good thesis somewhere on this forums. But I have no clue where I put the thread.

Basically Our galactica finds earth. The cylons do too. They attack us. And we join with the colonials.

The war to eradicate the cylons from the rest of the universe lasts a millenium. Early on Earth is the prime target then it is destroyed. Over time earth becomes a legend about a lost paradise. After a Millenium humanity forgets it was destroyed and it is just lost.

We force the cylons back to the original colonies. But rather than give up, they commit genocide on a planetary scale each time our Allied forces are about to liberate one of the original colonies. We have little choice but to quarantine the cylon controlled human colonies from the rest of the universe. (this where Moore's cylons come from)

The BG03 Galactica we see is the newer successor to the old one. Names of the original crew in the future have become legendary and humans take their names as callsigns.

Eventually after the war we establish new colonies to replace earth and the ones that quarantine the cylons.

The cylons and quarantine humans form a soceity hateful of the original colonists. They see themselves as the discarded children of humanity.

This leads to the events in Moore's show.

Well I'll add my idea for some inspiration as well only I never connected the two together you can see that it would not be difficult to do by the way I ended this

Many years before the first Cylon attack in the OS there was a difference of opinion amongst the 12 colonies there were those who did not believe… they did not agree with the way their society was structured were not religious and were more militaristic. Now this group of dissidents decide to leave the twelve colonies and find their own planetary system to colonize and never look back. they all shared the same cultural backgrounds which had some traditions they liked and kept. One of these was the use of call sings which in their culture are passed down and reused like hockey jersey numbers there were many Apollo’s and Starbucks (not on the same ship though) and the names of Battleships. Of course (like us) many family names were common like Adama and Baltar. But there were other aspects of their culture that they wanted changed and to help create their own identity and culture they changed some terminology like time references (centon, yarn , sp?etc.) over time they became a distinct society with their own identity similar but different than their ancestors (tos). After the cylons attacked the twelve colonies some of them went in search of other humans and planets and came across this new group of humans (mini) now they knew from experience that the trick to killing humans was to get inside their computer defence system, but they had to try a different tactic than the one they used on the other Baltar (tos) this Baltar had a different weakness so they exploited it just the same with the same results and we pick up in the new series and follow what happened to these people we all ready know what happened to the twelve colonies and the other Galactica and when the continuation series starts well be able to find out what happened to them up to the point were we last saw them. So now we have one group out by earth (OS) and we know the other group (mini) is heading their way. This way both relms can exist plausibly and connect plausibly. hope it helps:)

I don't think that either story is actually connected in any way, each version is a different interpretation of the core plot and stands alone. The new computer game is a funny one really, whilst the style is very much like TOS in using the original Cylons etc it isn't actually anything to do with TOS. It was a clever piece of cross marketing including aspects of the original series as part of the cannon of the new one. It should be reguarded as a nod to what came before and no more. The game is really a prequal to the events of the mini allowing us to explore the early career of Adama.

I feel that trying to connect the cannon of both series actually weakens them. I don't think Ron Moore has any kind of massive cannon backstory connection plan and for that matter I don't take him for the kind of person to play that kind of game. I do hope that we do see some cameo's from cast members of TOS in the new series in new roles. Not only can it be fun for fans and cast but also be a healing experiance for fans(it certainly was in the Trek world). Actually I will also be very keen to see guest appearences from stars of other shows as well, Walter Koenig of Trek fame was fantastic in Babylon 5.

I must admit whilst I have no plans to do any Fan Fic myself I will be interested to see how long before people start BSG04 Fan Fic.

Combining the two universes is an interesting idea; however, I don't think Ron Moore is planning on doing that for legal reasons. As fans we can speculate and create that story though. :)

One of the possible ways to combining the two universes is by having the new mini take place before TOS. The mini Galactica flees the cylons and after a series of battles against them they think they defeated them. They then find a star system in a black void in space. They call it Kobol. Basically that is where the mini ends. The colonials spread out and remake the 12 colonies which are the colonies that the Galactica TOS takes place in. The Cylons were never completely defeated, but were building up secretly. They then attack the neighbors of the colonials and then the colonials get involved in the wars against the cylons, thus starting the 1,000 yahren war. By this time, the stories of the cylons and of the human exodus have been cluttered by years of distortion. The colonials believe that the cylons were once a different species that was destroyed by their mechanical creations. They don't realize that they actually created the cylons. The cylons made radical changes to themselves over the years as well. Their leaders took on the appearance of reptiles and they rejected the idea of having human-looking avatars. Probably because of an internal conflict or civil war that they had amongst themselves.

TOS then takes place. Earth is still the long lost 13th colony, but it was always the human homeworld. Kobol was not the human homeworld, but rather the first colony founded by the mini Galactica.

It is worthwhile thinking about. One idea that I have heard of that may be of some merit would be for Cmdr Cain catch up to the Fleet with the Pegasus and and it is found that the Pegasus has been remanned with (surprise) faces from the mini. And it turns out that he has about 50000 others resettled on a nearby planet. From there you could go with the ragtag battlefleet concept, or have the Cylons and the Humano-Cylons attack and force the evacuation of the resettlement.
