View Full Version : So what do you think of the new viper?

I'm talking about the new viper on the moore show. The white one with the red stripe.

I actually like it. I think it has a good design. It looks like the old version, but it has some nice revamping. Its not that I like it better or worse, but I just like it.

The only flaw to me is the intake turbines. Its built so it can't rotate. To me that's kinda cheap. But the rest of the ship is pretty sweet.

:salute:

I saw it ...........but was not really too fond of it ...............

As a matter of fact It was the INTAKE turbines that I didn't like ...................

Maybe they're not turbines, but intake vents that would open for atmospheric flight. They're just designed in that pattern, and don't actually rotate.

ah. that makes more sense. :D

I like the Mark II Viper as well - I agree with the comments about the intakes - it looks like there are turbines inside, but the shape of the intake is kinda funky. I miss the dark grey stripes on the TOS Viper around the intake openings. My only other criticism are minor at best - the canopy design and the openings on the side of the nose near the weapons placements - they seem a bit large and kind of vulnerable for a fighter.

I have a few pics that I got from Gabe Koerner's website - there are about 4 or 5 of them. They look snazzy on a PC screen as wallpaper. If I had access to a Photoshop program (or knew how to use one!), it would be cool to put the Viper in those pics against a star background...

I didn't even think of the possiblity that those could be intake vents .............
Thanks for pointing that out .....................

Overall I liked it. I thought the intake duct right behind the canopy was too small compared to the other two ducts. Since they are apparently the same "engine", you would need the same size intake.

I think the only major changes in the design from TOS to the mini are the canopy and the intakes. (Sorry Tom, paint job doesn't count)

What intakes are you guys talking about, anyway?

Tom, who's the angry looking puppet with the sword?

It was the mechanics of the plane that turned me off ........not the paint job. :thumbdown

Fair enough. But I still don't understand what intake turbines you guys were talking about. Or are we calling the same thing by different names?

Its inside the front intakes.

Btw- My avatar is from the show Angel, where angel got turned into a muppet.

It was pretty funny. :)

I happen to think the new Viper is better than the original. I really like the design.

But having said that there is a few design issues. On the sides of the outboard engines there's a major design flaw. They have an open section of the engines that has what i would say looks like copper tubes. If this actually was a major part to the engines there screwed. What if your in flight and a small meteor hits the side of the engine is rips off the tubes?

Hmmmm.

Of course we mustn't forget that there were two types of Viper in the new BSG show. The Mk 2 Vipers in the show are museum pieces but aren't affected by the Cylon computer hacking that affected the Galactica's Super Vipers. On the other hand I did notice a few super Vipers in the final battle when the fleet escapes from Ragnaroc station. You see one clearly landing on the Port hanger bay deck when they are forced to make a combat landing before jumping out. I assume that if this wasn't a YATI then some were in maintenace and not destroyed with the other fighters or like the original series stragglers from other Colonial vessels. I do remember a scene where Baltar says that he is removing the software which makes it possible for the Cylons to hack the system thus making it possible to use the newer fighters again. Of course if there are only handful of Super Vipers left the Galactica will have to husband them which will be interesting to see in the future series.

Oh yeah on another note its amusing how people who were formally arguing about the very existance of the new series are now interested in talking about the finer technical details of the new series!

Fedaykin -

You just had to go there.....

I don't see a problem with folks discussing the technical aspects of the miniseries. There were some really good elements in it - technically and visually. The owner of CF is one of the guys that worked on such elements. You don't have to embrace something completely just to talk about some of the finer points of it.

Instead of being "entertained", you should be pleased that the discussion was going quite intelligently and peacefully about something you have an interest in. In the end, it's not the differences that separate BSG fandom that are important, it's the similarities that bring us together as a whole that are....

This is a forum for ALL fans of BSG - I prefer to think of us as one group with similar interests - even if we are talking about 2 different versions of the same show.

Best regards,
Bryan

I don't see why not. This ain't religion. Its just a tv show when you get down to it.

Anybody else notice that in the game's cutscenes, the Viper Mk I's look a lot like the MkVII's that get pasted by the Cylons? Or somewhat like the Trendmasters toys or cover art for Orson Scott Card novels?

As to the other matter.... The Mini isn't totally terrible. I watched it, and I have been a TOS fan since Sept '78(6 yrs old)! I just don't like the politics behind it. Moore, being a fan, could have listened more to other fans. Hopefully the new series will galvanize Richard, Glen, and Tom to put their heads together and give us all what we really want.

Sorry,

It was more of a light hearted comment on how well everyone is getting on.

I find the technical aspects far more interesting and I remind you of my previous post about some MK7 vipers being in the final battle at Ragnaroc station.

The game cut scenes shared the same viper that was used in the mini series. EdenFX and Zoic shared the same viper. Which in my mind is weird but hey that's hollywood.

don't worry. Forums are notorious for not potraying the proper intent of the poster. Especially if you don't see smilies.

But we are glad to see you having fun here!

*note- Tom the BG1 fanatic was theone who created this thread. And Don actually said he likes the new one BETTER than the original. :)

I hated the script and didn't see the mini and don't intend too but love
hearing everyone's viewpoint regardless WHICH BSG they like ;)
