Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had an information about a film called Space Mutiny.

This film is related to Battlestar Galactica as is used the special effect sequences from the BG series as a the special effects for Space Mutiny.

These were licensed as the film is that low budget B movie type film, but it is interesting to see the battle sequences as they attack the 'Southern Sun' which we know as being the Galactica. Cylon raiders, Vipers and shuttle craft are all included !

One good part is that they have created computer simulations of the ships landing, which the cast watch on monitors. This may even be a left over of the BG series, we have no way of knowing......

I have this movie (made in 1989 and lasting 87minutes) on VHS, and I am thinking of converting it to DVDR for anyone who would be interested ?

I'd be grateful if any other info fans may have,

Best Wishes,

Daniel

I saw it, when a friend bought the video years ago. I had no idea anyone else had ever seen it.

possible correction to post above, it may be a VCD if people were interested....

But these work on most DVD players, and all computer DVD players anyway....

Welcome Ernie! Haven't heard of that one, but I do remember a little known flick starring Richard Thomas called Battle Beyond the Stars. All of the music and much of the effects were copied by or from (I forget which) another space film. It was kinda wierd seeing two nearly identical films music and effect wise but with different plots. BBS was pretty campy but also great fun. I liked the living female ship (which also got used in another flick).

Welcome to Fleets :)

Ooh, just looked BBS up in IMDB and noticed Marta Kristen was in it - Judy from Lost in Space. Wow, didn't notice that.

Crowe T. Robot was great.

Was this shown back in the Joel Hodgeson(sp?) days?

I saw Battle Beyond the Stars when I was a kid. They played it on Showtime.
They played it over and over and over and over again. I think Showtime only had four or five movies in those days.
Wasnt JohnBoy from the Waltons in that? It should have been titled;
"The Magnificent Seven in Space with the Boob ship."

Hmmmmm...I'm thinking it was during Mike Nelson's "stay" onboard the S.O.L.

Muffit -

You were talking about the fact that BBTS (What I like to call "John-Boy in Space"...) shared common effects and soundtrack from other films. The list is quite long.... The soundtrack is a damn close copy to Star Trek - The Motion Picture - when hiring James Horner to to it, the producers asked for something "just like" ST-TMP and that was what they got, with some of the musical elements mildly changed so they weren't exactly the same.

While watching the film, the sound effects used were a mixed bag of everything. There were sound effects used from Star Trek, Lost in Space, a number of Sci Fi films (even ST - TMP) as well as Battlestar Galactica! The story of course, is a take on The Seven Samurai, or as someone else pointed out, The Magnificent Seven.

I have BBTS in my DVD library and I still enjoy watching it, despite its campiness. It reminds me of a time when studios weren't afraid of taking risks in order to supply the demand for SciFi films in the wake of Star Wars.

Best to you,
Bryan

Just a minute......

Didn't I start this thread based on Space Mutiny ????? oh well.....

Battle Beyond The Star used the same ship as from BarBarella and there was also another film which then copied all the action shots from BBTS and costumes, that film was called 'The Space Raiders'

But Space Mutiny is the only one which copied Battlestar Galactica, unless people know of any others ?????

I've been wanting to catch Space Mutiny my self just to laugh at the idea of this film. How does one pitch this...who at Universal let this happen?

I will say this loud, based on everything I've read and saw and heard I predict I will find Ron Moore's mini-series a better work of Sci-Fi than Space Mutiny. I will how ever "give it a chance".

Oh wow! I love 'Battle Beyond The Stars', I got it on Region 1 DVD a year or two ago - It still entertains me after all these years. A great soundtrack from James Horner (who would later go onto bigger things - Star Trek II, Krull, etc.) and model work led by James Cameron (Aliens, Titanic).

Something else I have seen which I think took SFX from Battle, there was a TV movie from 1985 called 'Murder in Space' with Wilford Brimley, Michael Ironside & Martin Balsam. I think it used footage of the 'Hammerhead' (Sador's ship) and renamed it the 'Conestoga'.

All the best,
