And curious, yet not knowing where the landmines are buried, I shall side-step the whole fray (while leaving an open invitation to fill my PM box with synopsis and candy) and trudge forward, happy at seeing one of my favorite forums up and running with the champions, and begin with the really important questions of. . .

Battlestar Galactica DVD discussion.

I've noticed there is a version or two of the 'movie' out. Which one is better? Are there any extras? Who bought the special edition DVD set? Any word on if there will be a DVD release of the mini-series?

Thinking happy happy, joy joy thoughts! :D

:D

Just posting about a problem that really bugged me. Its posted near the top of the forums.

I have both the cylon head box set and the older pilot on dvd. The new box set is FAR better. They went to the original masters in the Universal vaults for that. Plus you get alot of cut scenes and that wonderful commentatry during the pilot.

Basically the older dvd pales in comparison. The only pros is that the dvd is one sided so it has the name embossed on top. (the new versions have data on both sides so it don't have any label). And there is a pretty decent painting for the cover.

But really... there is no reason to buy the older dvd now. :)

You can thank Chris Pappas for that!

the older dvd is the "lets randomly chop 15 minutes from it" theatrical release. The box set has the uncut 2hr & about 20 min pilot, probably the longest restored scene is Athena & Starbuck "locker room" scene, which gives you a lot more insight into what their relationship was. It makes the rivalry with Cassie make a lot more sense. ;)

Thanks Chris. Boy, I bet there's a story in THAT.

yup and the fact that most of Athena was blocked by strategic camera placement in that scene! Not like todays camera views! and the launch tube scene with Starbuck and Cassi hinted but didn't give away what was going on!

Sounds great.

Stupid question #2:

Which old DVD are you talking about? I've seen two... One that looks like a Goodtimes version and a Universal version (running time apprx. 2hrs and 5mins, not that I memorized that or anything ;) ).

Also, the original Cylon head special edition boxed sets seem to have disappeared from the shelves for a while. Now I see a silver boxed set with a raised cylon bust on the box, and they are more expensive. Which has gotten me to wondering if there was a quality problem with the original release? (I actually had a store employee steer me away from the Cylon boxed set once with an apocryphal tale of a return having a cracked disc.)

Thanks much! :D

Color my clothes white and call me Jophn but I think that should be printed in bold and used as a selling point for the DVD boxed set.

The bit about the added character in-sight, I mean. ;)
