I wrote this same topic at my site and thought that I would share:
I remember when I first joined the site over two yahrens ago. Everyone was a happy camper. There were some great times that transpired there. One was treated to Muffit's great stories which hit the mark in a beautiful way. Another of the perks was OWD. He had some great stories about his pet turnip, Lumpy. It was a place like "Cheers" where everyone knew your name and were glad you came. Emerita was kind enough to start the Galactica cafe and the Those who believe threads that were fun to partake in. Atleast we have fond memories of the place.

I wasn't around for the genesis of Fleets, but I would like to say that my time here so far has been an interesting one....there's always something here to keep my interest and the people are some of the best I have met online. I want to say something that I've never told anyone in BSG fandom, so here goes....
Since I started my online life in 1999 with a purchase of my first PC, I ran into the world of Space:1999 first in online fandom. There were 2 big conventions in 1999 & 2000 and there was lots of discussion and fun to be had. After the DVDs came out, there was excitement and episode reviews for a while, but for most of the people involved they had been around the track so many times by then, things really started to die down.
I had first heard of recent BSG fandom from the MainMission2000 con in New York as Jack Stauffer & Richard Hatch were there as well as a large group of BSG fans. From a TV standpoint, BSG & 1999 couldn't be further apart. It seems to be that way with their respective fan bases as well. My 3rd hand impression of BSG fandom at that time was "Why are they still around? The show only really lasted one year..." What I didn't realize was that there are more similarities between the circumstances of both shows given the decade in which they were released and the climate of Sci Fi on TV at that time.
When I heard about the mini last August, I decided to educate myself as I had always liked BSG and owned a couple of VHS tapes of it, if a new version was coming back, I needed to know more. Colonial Fleets came up in my search for a website - given the name, I figured that it must be the place to be. I joined and lurked a bit - but then I got sucked in..... I started posting and getting to know people and interacting with them. I soon found Cylon Alliance and given the name, didn't really know what it was about, or if I was ready for the format of that site, but I joined there too.
BSG is a pretty big part of my free time these days, I have other interests, but most of my online time is focused with all things BSG. I love the people here - the diversity, the cameraderie - everything about it makes it a great group to hang out with.
The one thing that I learned about BSG fandom is that even though TOS only lasted one season, it's the people that have kept it alive even now. Even though it is 25 years old and there are only 24 episodes, I still like posting about it and reading what everyone has to say about it. I'm proud to be associated with this group of people and plan on continuing to do so for some time yet to come.
My best to all the people here...you're the greatest!

All Battlestar sites had there best day this past December as you can tell from all the dates of the "record" number of users. There are plenty of Galactica sites with 4 or less members on at any one time that can tell you how much they liked the good old days, hate the mini and could care less of new folks that just learned about them. I bet a significant percent of the registered users joined in the past 90 days. The good old days really weren't so good and the bad days now aren't really that bad.

I miss Colonial Art and OWD's madcap threads (I think he'd been smoking plant vapours) and when we'd fill pages up as to how Baltar was a Commander and what he was in command of.
Sincerely,
Peter

Yup antelope. That month was insane on bandwidth. And we still are feeling the remnants of the surge. Our BW hasn't gone down alot. (well... when we are open :duck: )
Bryan- good words. Good to see ya back too. And I appreciated those emails. :)

I really wasn't THAT involved during the good old days. I came on during the height of the cloning problem. All I saw was the arguing. I think most of that was the result of scifi's treatment of the fanbase. But I always believed that the attitudes in the cafe should lead us. :)

I 'joined' more of the forums because this forum the best one was down.
There are more people Antelope who are a fans of the good old days then
you would think.
I am truelly pleased that this FORUM is now back up.

Peter, thanks for coming back.
I'll do my best for all here. In your own little way it was what you did that made the light bulb come back on in my fridge.
I'll work on getting you some art, how's that?

That'd be great. I miss Stevew ships, David Kerin, compositions are always easy on the eye and of course your shuttle is a particular favourite. I'm waiting for Sandy to reveal his DeSanto Raider too!

Peter,
Both Steve's and David's collections of ships are in the Gallery. OR was your reference to something else? If so, let me know.

Thanks Peter for the kind words. I have gone off on a tangent and don't know how to get the new piks into the gallery. I have some new support ships and some non BSG stuff here. I totally redid my ISS as it is very dear to my heart, it is my first million+ poly model

Hey Peter, love the new avatar!
Here's something for ya, remember the G80 episodes at all? If you recall they had a ship in there that looked something like the one in your avatar. We recently found pictures of that model. It still exists.

That's fantastic Steve, the detail is incredible!
Re, my avatar, that is indeed Doctor Zee's Anti-Gravity ship, I scanned the image from the back of the new BSG trading cards, I'm glad that the model is still around.
And yes, I am an unashamed Galactica 1980 fan and I'm currently in therapy for it.

Steve,
Once we get running on all cylinders, I'll get the pics to Tom. (I'm Head Gopher :D (and darn proud of it!!!!)).....as a matter of fact, since I have a chance now, I'll go get 'em and send them over to him.
When you get new ones, just drop me a PM. I have to figure out why my Fleet e-mail isn't working right. I probably didn't set a preference right.
Back in a bit. :)
Thank you so much - your work is truly incredible.
