dvd collection should be re-mastered

I just finished watching the complete series on dvd. It was great but it really should be restored.

You can see green blocks around the space ships. This is a technical flaw they had to live with back then. Now they can clean it up. Lucas did this with his old Star Wars films. He cleaned them up and re-released them in '97. And I'm not talking about the second time when he added scenes. He just cleaned up the technical flaws and added some cut scenes that didn't make it into the original.

I think someone should clean up the pilot episode and then have a cinematic re-release like Lucas did.

This would be a good way to gauge the demand for a new movie/series w/o spending a lot of money.

The space battles in Hand of God where worse than a poor VHS copy. This is the series best single hour episode that is unacceptable.

The worst I've seen is on Fire on the Galatica. You can obvisiously see the wires suspending them to simulate zero-G. It's lame and easily correctablte.

Why don't they do it?

They won't do it because it would cost money to fix it. In the end, it is all about money.

I agree with THatcher on this one ...... although we know
they WON'T do it because as BIJOU said ........ "IN the end,
it is ALL about money.

I would think you would also run into problems about where you stop if you follow me. you start correcting a little here and there and making "clean" spots and pretty soon those are going to "pop" through the image if you will.

Although not perfect, there are still better than I remember watching on TV.

Call me crazy but the flaws are part of the charm. Compared to CGI technology today BG is primative, but at the time this was some of the most advanced special effects out there.

I also oppose the colorization of black and white movies if that is a fair comparison.

When it aired, it was the most expensive most elaborate special effects to ever air on television. They were basically doing Star Wars quality theatrical effects, the kind that takes a year to do, but they were doing it WEEKLY! They had the best cast, and crew money could get.

This set, though flawed, is the best print possible from the best print existing on the planet. I'm greatful for that.

They could do alot more. Scenes that couldn't be done for lack of time. We could create scenes to replaced all that recycled footage. But that takes money. :(

Agree with you there Tommyboy, one of the things that "bugged" about Babylon 5 was the "cleaness" of the ships. Give me models over CGI anyday :salute:
