January 31st is my 25th birthday. I haven't had a good birthday in like... well ever. My family were Jehovah's Witnesses for 16 years so most of the time I didn't even celebrate it. But they have always sucked. My family came together this weekend and we're planning a nice get together, and they asked what I wanted and I said I wanted the original Battlestar Galactica series on DVD. The trouble is I doubt my family could afford the $80, and even if they could, the only way you can get it around here now is to order it online... Its too bulky for the stores to carry it.

So anyway, here's my request to the Scifi-Channel execs... If I can't have the original series for my birthday on January 31st, can I at least have an announcment on a new series being greenlit?

That would be the coolest birthday present ever.

My brewing partner is ex-JW. I find his religious upbringing frees him more many of the more conventional prejudices though. I understand their take on quasi-religios "holidays" but never have had an explaination of the bday angle.

I hope you get all your bday wishes.

They don't do it because of the fact that the only two biblical references to birthdays included someone getting their head cut off. There is nothing there, even in their verson, that says that birthdays are explicitly wrong. They just don't do it cause it "might be wrong."

I dunno. I don't have anything against the witnesses themselves, they are some of the most wonderful people on the planet. But if you look at whats happened to that society over the past 100 years, the sad truth is even they don't know how screwed up it is.

Anyway. I meant that request more of a joke than anything else. I've just been thinking lately that the actors contracts expire on the 31st, and thats my birthday, so that might be a cool birthday gift... And you can only watch the pilot so many times before you want to see the rest of the series...
