.....ready for download! Colonial Fleets together with Cylon.org released the Foundation Galactica demo to the public. Were sorry for the delay but we know you will enjoy it and hope the wait was well worth it. The file size is roughly a 10 meg zip file. It's encoded in divx at 320x240. A larger file size maybe available at a later date but we thought it best to keep it at a minimum for those still on modem connections. I dare not go any smaller than 10 megs folks or quality would have been lost.
We hope you enjoy it and it truely represents what could have been.
So without further adoooooo, here ya go. Enjoy. Thanks to Tom for hosting it.

Hmm, on my computer it seems to just stop after the second cylon raider flys by. Sound continues, no further video though...
Update: Nevermind, it's ok now! I need to pay more attention to what I read - Windows Media Player had problems with it but my DIVX player handles it just fine :)

Hi,
Is it possible to provide it in a non-divx avi format? My WMP doesn't have the codec and I am reluctant to download stuff like that cuz invariably something goes wrong with my system (like RealPlayer and QuickTime both really botched my system).
Thanks,

Off topic, how is that "Battlestar Millienia" movie coming along you haven't abandon it all together have you? i found that to be an incredible piece of work a year or more back on BGfanclub.com a while ago.

Wow, someone actually remembers that? Yeesh. Thanks man, i appreciate the kudos. Although it is very bad considering what i can do today versus then. I guess i haven't put much thought into it. When i made Millenia i was just starting out. The only reason yours truely got into cgi was Galactica. Pretty lame huh! But realistically the key to making a good cgi movie is being a complete artist and as of yet i haven't fully reached that point.
One of the things that has held me back over the years is having top notch cgi models to work with. My goal in making a 3rd installment to the Millenia deal was to first create top notch models to use in it. At the time i had to resort to using other's work to do that and it's not something i wanted to do.
Ya never know KJ, but at the moment there's no significant movement in the Millenia project. Thanks for asking though!

Sorry, not at this moment. First of all Eden FX would have to allow that to go up and at this moment that's not going to happen.

Guys, it looks great!
There are a few shots from "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" in it, notably the shot with the machine that's stripping resources from the planet, and the shot of the three raiders doing a roll in close-up. Some of the other shots I remember from pre-final versions of the trailer. The cylon design is very cool, but in my opinion, the motion capture is not in character. Still very neat.
I have seen this trailer before on video, and it looks even better. Maybe I can talk Mike into letting us post the one we did for Tom DeSanto....

Download this: http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX511Bundle.exe
and when you install, only check off the codec for installation (don't install the player, the free divx player is ad supported) and your WMP will play divx. I have RealOne and QT along side WMP and haven't had any problems.

Thanks SciFi :). I was thinking of installing the codec, but when I installed other video players/codecs on my last computer, it toasted my system. I got blue screens constantly. I was never able to fix it, finally got a new system. Am so afraid of that happening again... I have no luck when it comes to installing stuff, there's invariably some invisible system file replacement or addition that messes with my development tools. (And Windows is sadly lacking in the area of being able to uninstall stuff).
I want to try it, but am just too afraid of what might happen - it's just too hard to get my system configured and running half way decently, don't wanna jeopordize that. But thank you most kindly.

Hi parker! I don't know which codecs I have, just the ones that came with XP Home I suppose (WMP 8.0). I keep Windows critical updates up to date but nothing else. I have not enabled WMP's auto update. Real Player came bundled with my Dell but I'd rather get a root canal than install that again :)
Thanks,

Codecs shouldn't cause you any problems. It's the dll's and how they are written that are the source of many Windows problems. As long as you download or load programs that are written for or are XP (NT and W2K drivers work ok) compatible, you should be fine.

January 27th, 2004, 12:31 PM
Thanks Sci-Fi, yes perhaps I am being overly cautious about the codecs. Maybe I should try that rather than the player.

and i was running 3.11 alpha for the longest time with no problems ... even encoded "Spy Games" to absolute perfection. No one who's seen it can tell it's not a DVD!
But yes, speaking from personal experience, Divx 5 is very stable. Just don't use the player. Let your default media player work.

Btw one really sad thought about this piece came to me. Look at the date.
Three months from the date the World Trade Centers would fall. And the crew that made the DeSanto miniseries would lose morale and fall behind. And the project would collapse.

Being a Mac user (G4), how do I view the file? I downloaded it, but got errors in QuickTime, then had a friend download it on a Windows based PC, and he can't see the video, either, only sound...

Believe Mac users have to download the Divx Player: http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
The minimum requirements for Mac:
400Mhz G3 or faster
Video acceleration card with QuickTime support (ATI, NVIDIA)
QuickTime 5 or later
Mac OS 8.6 or later (includes OS X)
CarbonLib 1.2.6 or later
If your friend installed just the codec, he should be able to see the video and hear the sound thru WMP. Check to see if he is running at 24-bit color and has DirectX7 or higher installed. Or did he install the Divx Player?

I don't know if there are any limitations on its usage, but I hope it is OK to link to it.....it is a very valueable piece of fandom and well worth including in a website that catalogues all the fanfilms and promotes/supports a Continuation....

I remember when I did that a while back.
I sat back and watched it and I actually had a bit of a tear in my eye even though I would have loved to have a little more flashback footage from what took place after the show went off the air so that we could have been brought up to date just in the opening, but ow well.
I just don't have the time now.
I also did a version of the foundation trailer where I took out the existing music and replaced it with new music and sound effects and made a new trailer out of it. I had permission to do that but when I asked if it could be released publicly, I never heard back but I understand a lot of people are really busy these days as I am my self so that's OK.
but with that said, if any one is interested, I can put it up on yousendit for a week and it could be downloaded.

Well the music belongs to Stu Phillips and the quality of the video is poor due to the fact that it was shrunk down when I got it and I had to shrink it yet again.
But with that said, you still get an idea. I did this right after the foundation demo was released.
I've had problems posting links here in the past for some reason which is weird because all I'm doing is copping and pasting but anyway, here it is.
