From Cinescape.com:

While fans of the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA "re-imagining" wait for official word to find out whether or not The Sci Fi Channel has decided to take the show to series, we've heard from one of our trustworthy sources on the matter. According to this Vancouver-based source, the Channel has given the producers of the new GALACTICA a six-episode commitment. It just hasn't been officially announced yet.

Debuting to strong ratings, last month's broadcast of the two-part, four-hour BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mini-series earned the Sci Fi Channel its third highest ratings ever for a program. The second night of GALACTICA grabbed a larger share of the audience than the first night. Usually this kind of good news would be enough to launch the program into a full-fledged series but the show's high cost per episode (which is ironically the same kind of issue that led to the original GALACTICA's swift cancellation after just one season) is contributing to cold feet by Channel suits. But as our source tells us -- and we know who they are and their previous established track history is solid -- the Channel has ordered a half-dozen hour-long episodes. It's expected that all of the primary cast members from the mini-series will re-appear in the series version of GALACTICA.

I'm not going to congratulate you yet, only because SciFi seems to jinx things for itself and I refuse to help the jinx: when Aaron walks on a soundstage, then I will congratulate you.

you might want to share a dance with Crys however. ;)

Good for you, Koenigrules. I don't care for he mini, but I'm glad it can be a good thing for the people who will enjoy it. :)

Paying a writer to scope out 6 episodes is one thing, going in to production is another.

NBC annoinced last week they will be trimming at least $600 million from Universals cable operations, to help pay for the take over. Anumber of serior executives will also be leaving.

In addition if B. Dillier get what he is demanding then further cuts will happen.

True, but let's focus on the downside and the negatives in the Bad and Ugly forum and let the hopeful be that way here. Sound like a good guideline? (Just a thought- all respects to Hito.) ;)

Based on the latest RDM info, we can now hope for more episodes- maybe half a season??
Let's look on the bright side here!

As a fan of the original show, the six episode pick-up is sad news for me. I hoped that the mini would fade away like a bad dream. I guess I'll have to put up with Ron Moore's abomination a bit longer.

Mediasharx contacted the Sci Fi Channel for a comment on the rumor. SFC rep Lana Kim only had this to say, "Though discussions are on-going, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA has not been greenlit for series."

I also posted this on the evil side.

I don't see how the actors can take the ups and downs in this business. I used to think they were overpaid.

Not anymore.

While I have no interest in this thing getting made, a short episode order is not anything new in the show business. In fact, most tv shows out there start this way, as a limited experiment series.

With the cancellation of shows after only one or two eps, most producers are only getting orders for six or maybe 12 episodes and that's it. They want to hedge their bets in case the ratings don't show up...

I called Sci-Fi today and spoke to Bonnie Hammer's assistant.
She said she received one bit of news, that Galactica would have 6 episodes.
When I said that rumor was being questioned, she said, "That's all I'm saying..."
Makes you wonder, eh.

I think that this can be a good thing, because we won`t have 22 episodens with a lot of fillers putting people off. This have been a serious problem with several of the Trek outing. It may be good to let them have a few limited runs, before they hopefully will comission a full series.

I was going to ask if you had called them lately.
That is good news.

The countdown clock ticks along.

Im hoping they get the six episodes... do good then get a green light, THAT would be the ideal thing to happen :) (as lon as the buget is decent, as well as the writing o'course!)

They need to make the mose of these 6 episodes and develope a multi episode arc.
or 3 2 part stories.

Probably they can only do 6 for the 2004 year- but are negotiating right now for more in 2005.
Let's hope so.
