I recently discovered, via a friend's high speed computor, (mine is too pokey) that there are many fan produced films that are available on the net. I saw one production that looked like a lost episode of the original Star Trek, a short film where Batman fights Predators and Aliens (and the Joker too!), and tons of Star Wars short movies.
Many of these project have a very professional gloss. The effects are surprisingly well done. (There is a Finnish Star Trek/Babylon 5 live action crossover that must be seen to be believed.) The costumes are on par with anything that has come out of Hollywood. And yes, the acting is good too.
The one thing that is really striking about these fan produced films is the passion behind them. You can really see that they love the universe that they are recreating on screen. If there is one thing that defines Battlestar Galactica fans is passion. We love Battlestar Galactica. We know the show inside and out. My question is: where are the fan-produced Battlestar Galactica projects?
Surely, a group of talented, creative and resourceful fans could produce a short set in the Galactica universe. I think this would be a great opportunity. Many (could I say most?) fans of Battlestar Galactica were rendered heartsick by the recent mini series on the Sci Fi Channel. Many people shook their fists to the TV gods and said they could have done something much better than what Ron Moore palmed off as Galactica. Well, here would be a golden opportunity to prove it. Someone is destined to be the first Galactica fan to make a film. It could be you! :light:

This is the homepage for David Moss. David worked with Richard on the second coming trailer and also did work on his Great War of Magellan. He's made some of the better cgi movies out there.

Have fun.

Dear Titon,

The sites you suggested were great! They were fantastic animations! However, this isn't what I had in mind. The Star Trek, Star Wars and Batman productions I have pointed out above are live action movies. I hope to see a fan produced project that combines live action with CGI. Star Wars fan productions are very sophisticated with impressive costumes, sets and action. They often explore an aspect of the Star wars universe. One may be about stormtroopers, another about the Jedi while yet another might be about bounty hunters. I think a Galactica project along this line of thought would be fantastic. I would love to sit and watch a new adventures in the Galactica universe. Just think of it, wouldn't a short film about a Borellian Noman blood hunt be fun? How about a story about Warriors from one of the Battlestars that was lost at the battle of Molecay? The Galactica universe is so rich, there are hundreds of little stories that have yet to be told. It is up to us fans to rise to the challenge.

P.S. Darth, I will post the web addresses for the films I mentioned. If you want to do a google search the Batman/Aliens/Predator flick is titled "Dead End". The Star Trek Tos episode is titled "Savage Empire." The Trek/B5 crossover is called "Star Wreck." And finally, just search for Star Wars fan films and a ton of them will pop up. Enjoy!

I have this past year spent about a grand on a Battlestar Warrior costume with some alterations coming up. I do community theatre acting and have been approached about doing a fan film. At the “gentlemen’s club” cylon.org there is movement to getting some kind of fan film going. Go check it out…I’m up for doing something.

I think finding a person with a Warrior uniform is a great place to start a fan film! To go about doing the project seriously, it would have to start with a great script. I envision something that is modest in scope as a first effort. I see it as being, at the most ten, minutes in length. It could be about two warriors going up against cylon raiders at the battle of Molecay.
This production would need a viper cockpit mock-up, at least two Actors, a sound stage with green screen capability, a digital camera and an editing suite. Fans that are skilled in CGI would, of course be very welcomed to the party. If there are Fans who are sentimentalists and are able to do motion control work with models, we can go that route to! It looked great in 1978.
This would be a modest effort but none the less a very professional one. Every effort would be made to re-create the atmosphere and flavor of the original show. Just imagine the sense of satisfaction and accomplishement you would have in being a part of a production that would be acclaimed by Battlestar Galactica fans everywhere. This could premiere at a Galactica convention and then be made available on the net. Any one interested?
