Well, folks, I saw the new Galactica, and I must say, all my fears were put to rest. I loved the new miniseries. The show had many nods and tips of the hat to the original series, and as a TOS fan, I could appreciate that greatly.
I liked the portrayals of the new characters. The new Starbuck ROCKS! I like both Starbucks though, and would have either of them on my wing anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
I think people overplayed the whole sex thing in BSG. There was no more sex in it than I saw in a single episode of FARSCAPE...that goes for the language and violence too. The sex probably took up less than 5% of the entire miniseries.
There is potential for the old Cylons to return, as Number Six hinted. I would love to see that happen.
There is just as strong a spirituality in the new show as there was in the old show. I have a feeling that if this new BSG becomes a series, then Elosha, the priestess, will become an influencial character, especially to Adama. (Excellently portrayed by Edward James Olmos.) The "So Say We All" speech sent chills up my spine, as did Starbuck's prayer.
I am considering writing a new mini fanfic, in addition to completing my original fanfic (Dark Exodus, which is about to climax BTW.). With the new mini fanfic, I will try to steer some of the elements of the new show toward some of the original concepts that TOS fans (like myself) enjoyed.
In summary, there are now two Battlestars Galactica in my heart, and I love both of them for intense, yet differing reasons.
Respectfully to all, whether pro- or anti- mini,
