The old Galactica is coming back. People are working very hard to bring the old girl back. But times have changed. WE have changed. We got a hair cut. We gave up disco and feathered hair. Though I noticed both have made a comeback of late.
;)

WHEN we get a new Galactica movie based on the original show, what would you new fans change about the old show?

And what would you new fans want to keep about the old show?

The old Galactica will come back. I'm sure of it. So lets talk about what form that new show should take.

Keep the mythology. For me exploring the mythos of BSG is what made alot of it interesting. I loved how BSG had a distinct culture. It wasn't just a bunch of 'Americans in Space'.

I can't really think of anything I *wouldn't* want to see from the original. I even liked Muffit  . No Hector and Vector though.

Maybe how the story is told has to change somewhat. Not sure how far the planet of the week format could be taken. I don't really mind Moore's attempt to make BSG more of a dramatic show, I just wouldn't want that to come at the expense of what the original show was.

I think that question will drive any movies based on TOS.

If we ignore the new Battlestar I can see a 2-3 hour movie based around one last cylon battle hopefully including the missing Battlestar Pegasus. After the destruction of the massed cylon fleet the battered Galactica and fleet make one last FTL jump and amazingly appear in front of a planet that looks like Earth. We the viewer know they found Earth. If the ratings (or money at the box office) are good they make another movie a year later based on the reconquest of the homeworlds by the descendants of the Galactica and the people of a future Earth.

If you want to merge the two I suggest you make the TOS movie a prequel to where we are today. The colonials could fight their way to a point where they no longer believe they need to run. They never find Earth. It is still a legend. The colonials colonize 12 new planets and name them after the lost homeworlds. The movie could end with a parent telling his child that the sacred scrolls tell of a time long ago when we were forced to leave the original colonies of Kobol because of a war with an alien race. The boy asks what were the aliens like. The man responds that no one is for sure since it was so long ago. Some people say they were reptiles. Other people say the reptiles built cylons just like we do and made them into warriors. The boy ask if our cylons could ever do something like what they say in the sacred scrolls. The father says no they are just machines and we would never make them into warriors.

I would like to see the original story continued (Now that's a newsflash!) Pick up the show about 20-25 years after the Hand of God. Bring back as much of the original cast as possible. I would also like to see the backstory about Iblis, the Beings of Light, the Cylons and the Colonists and how it all began.

Now, here's the twist and I quite honestly can not believe I'm saying this but, Keep the Mini-Series in the storyline. Just "re-imagine" it slightly (I'm not trying to be funny, I really mean this.) in order to cast its events as coming from Earth. Show that Earth had achieved a level of sophisticated space travel and planetary defense capabilities. Have the ship (name it something other than Galactica) embark on a mission of exploration possibly due to some pending planetary catastrophe and have the ship going toward the "general direction" of the Colonies to look for a new home for the residents of Earth (or a solution for whatever the pending disaster is). Meanwhile, have the "original" Galactica and rag-tag fleet continuing their journey toward Earth.

At some point, the 2 groups would meet. Then, after realizing who they all are, have the 2 groups unite. Then,...........(still thinking).

I'm sorry for this being somewhat sketchy. This thought just hit me. :D
The thing that I like is that something like this could wind up being a "win-win" situation for all of us.

Scrap it completely and continue with the new show.

That is all.
