so i managed to get my hands on te first part

of the miniseries. It isn't that bad however, a few things I felt should have been done different

1: the baby killing ; big no, no matter how you look on it

2: despite the fact that the interaction between father and son Apollo is part of the story, their acting seems remote at the start.( luckiliy this changes later) You don't see it clearing up until the final bit.

3: Debutch Katee Sackhoff; quite frankly, that's the thing that's needed most.

the story as a whole. I felt it was more fleshed out. Also some interesting stuff for the future series, some of the stuff mentioned and shown in the mini allows for the comeback of some of the TOS episodes.

Liked Sackhoff a lot, particularly in the scene where Starbuck rescued Apollo.

While I wasn't exactaly thrilled with the scene, I found Eick's remarks on it at the very least ill-thought out. Nathan and Ken's reactions actually paralleled mine when I first read it.

RDM suggested it was a mercy-killing, but my take is that Number Six has no real empathy for humans and lacks some critical elements that prevent her from understanding humanity, let alone being human. She has no qualms in having been key in the genocide of Man, but has a curiosity with humans especially Baltar, whom she teases and taunts and has an attachment that she calls love. The neck-snapping - IMHO - was the result of a curiosity rather than concern about the baby's suffering under the bomb attack. I think her interest in Baltar is in part due to his rampant ego and amorality.

As for Sackhoff - some of the scenes didn't play out for me. Sackhoff lacks the charm of a Dirk Benedict so her roguish ways (including cigar smoking) didn't go down as well. I thought she had a good chemistry with Bamber which played out real well in Hour #3 in the pre-jump phase. I really liked her there.

However Sackhoff's conflicts with Tigh lacked credibility with me. This was largely because I found Tigh's low-key understated performance not as strong as it should have been. I personally don't think he was bad-ass enough and he should have rented out the original In Harm's Way to see someone with the caliber of a Kirk Douglas (or for that matter Burt Lancaster) handling unpleasant characters.

I think there's plenty of room for Sackhoff to grow but there is definite need for improvement.

Actually, Six seems to have some difficulty processing her emotions -- she falls in love with Baltar, for example. Her troubled look after killing the baby suggested to me that she didn't expect to feel badly after having destroyed a human being, and yet now she did.

The board seems small enough (at least among the most active) that everyone can get to know each other somewhat.

The pro-mini forum has evened things up a bit.I was worried that it would be a place where TOS continuation only crowd would forever cry foul at overzealous mini fans.Now at least everyone has a cheering section.

Maybe the RDM version will get some mileage,maybe not.

The last bit of division is that some still want to see RDM's version fail,and agitate toward that end.While some more rabid RDM fans have done some silly things in the same vein vs Larson/Desanto/Hatch,they seem to get little support among thier own.

Can't always get what you want.
