I also posted a link in the creativity section, but thought it kind of fit here too.

I've been working on a mesh based on the Viper designs for DeSanto's project. I uploaded a few pics to my BSG Gallery page if you want to check them out.

http://www.soliumstudios.com/spaceart/spaceart.htm

As with all models, it's not quite done, but I have other things that should take priority and I'm not sure when I'll get the time to work on it some more.

There are three pics at the lower left of the gallery page.

I'm also working on this to show, in some small way, my support for the real Galactica, and a real revival under DeSanto. And I think the design is kind of cool. To think they had two full scale mockups under construction only to be destroyed! Oh the pain... the pain!

All my best,

Dave

Great work David!

Although on the DeSanto design I don't like the engine intakes.

Peter

Hi Peter...

I know what you mean.

Honestly, of the new designs, DeSanto's or the Mini's, I don't feel any have proven to be a better design than the original. (I like some from the game though)

Tom's at least is a closer feel to the original design, but it looks like the engines have a huge cover wrapped around them.

It has a very different design feel with the curved wrap around. Almost reminds me of a throwback to the curves of 1950's/60's cars. Not meaning that's bad, in fact kind of interesting because it's not a design element I would think of for this.

I agree. Those intake housings are too large. Is it just me, or is the nose too long too? I think both TOS and the new mini vipers have much shorter noses. I also noticed that the cylons on the same page looked like they have had too much too eat. Very huge bellys with love handles too. They need a treadmill...

Yeah, my Cylon has a few too many curves. Not as many curves as the new Mini's Cylons, and not in the right places either.

That's what happens to a Cylon after 25 years though. They don't get out and kill as often as they should, end up eating too many mushies. "Just one more" they say to themselves... but they add up.

Just don't say anything to the Cylon himself, he gets a little sensitive about his appearance. For Christmas though I'm getting him a membership to Bally's.

maybe they should try the atkins diet. They don't have any livers, so the risk is low to them.

David I liked the book covers for The Young Warriors and The Living Legend. I can't wait for the reprint on Legend. I gace my original to my cousin.

I like this one myself.

I've not seen anyone model the Eastern Alliance Cruisers before.

Any chance of a Paradeen Shuttle soon? :)

I kinda feel with the new design that the nose and engine sections are alien to each other.

I like the new Mini Mark II Vipers. I just think the engines would look better if they houseings were squareish.

Though the way its shot, you get few chances to really see it well. Its always blurred and frantic. And DARK.

I like the game Vipers more.

I suppose my perfect Viper would have the main fuselage of the TOS, the round intakes from the RMQ paintings, the double seat cockpit from G'80 and the wings from the game Viper.

Of all the various designs I've seen, so far I still like the originals best.

I was thinking the other day about visibility restrictions from the cockpit.

Would you be interested in rendering an original Viper with something like a bubble canopy (akin to Fighter jets) for all-around visibility to see how they look?

We are in the progress right now of bringing this Viper into reality. A full studio scale buildup. Hang-on cause here it comes.:salute:

I remember this render by Warrior which had a teardrop canopy(bubble).

Great models, excelent work on everything!

I am not liking the DeSantos Viper. Just has the wrong feel to it.

The Mark II Viper from the mini Grew on me a little. It was interesting to see "real" Space manuvering. But I can stand it.

The best Upgraded Viper, and one I feel for from the first time I saw it is the Scarlet Class Viper from Richard's Trailer! From the minute I saw it, I loved it. The way the Viper should have evolved :)

Alfred Wong did one hell’uv a job on this master It is called the MK4, he also did an excellent job of finding a happy median between the crude resin mock-up and the CGI renderings created by David Kerin that can bee seen HERE (http://www.soliumstudios.com/spaceart/spaceart.htm)

For those of you that don’t know anything about the DeSanto/Singer Colonial Viper then you can learn more about it HERE (http://www.cylon.org/bsg/desanto-viper-01.html)

Now for the good stuff! 1/48 scale, 9 inches long , the DeSanto Viper

I love the DeSantos Viper they are a great design like predators. a cool sleek look
and the Scarlet Vipers are also great looking. like heaver attack fighters that kind of thing... perhaps for basestar Assaults or ground attacks.
I would love to see them both in a movie including the original one.Differant vipers for different jobs looking after the fleet.

just an idea :)
