View Full Version : Enjoyment is better than hate

I actually EXPECTED to hate the mini. I looked for ways to hate it. But the new show is SO different and so much like a documentary of sorts that I found it interesting.
I expected to shut it off in disgust. Sitting down and watching a show and coming away from it having enjoyed it is not a BAD thing. I actually feel bad for people that did not like it. Feeling good is better than feeling bad. I feel good and want all the fans to feel good. I'm sure that won't happen until we get the remake we wanted.
Until then all we really have is the feeling we came away with from watching the new show and the memories we have of the old show.

Dean, it's OK. The memories are good ones. If that is what I end up having to live with that is fine. But Long may it live as the classic it is. And may the classic fly again.
If you get or have the dvd set of TOS, listen to the actors commentary about the way the pilot was shot. It makes the memories sweeter to hear them talk of some of the filmmaking nuances about it. It's just a joy to hear them kick back and watch and relive stuff about the cast and crew that made BSG the groundbreaking TV it was at the time.

The running commentary by Richard, Dirk and Herb makes it like watching the whole thing fresh again

Dean,
A lot of wise words posted there! :)
The saddest part of this whole scenario, from the minute that the re-imagining was announced to last night when the credits drew Night 2 to a close, is that from the outset and from seemingly the highest rungs of the ladder, there has been nothing but contempt for those expressing a desire for a continuation. Examples are Bonnie Hammer and her infamous remark about the "online chats and each group tested loved it" when interviewed about the mini -- these were, plain and simple, LIES --(reference: "Drop Everything and Read" thread); Ron Moore and his "popcorn remark" (he apologized (sort of) for this in an interview with TwoBrainedCylon, at Cylon Alliance); then, the Clone Wars which were orchestrated by Ted Gorospe, in which HE created multiple handles and flamed Pro-Continuationists at every opportunity. His motives for this are still not entirely clear to me, and for anyone to resort to this level of attack, over a television show, is borderline insanity (in my opinion).
That having been said, hopefully you can understand how discussions tend to get somewhat polarized amongst the 2 groups. We don't hate those folks that watched or even enjoyed the mini. We just got sensitive to "having our noses rubbed in it" at every turn.
I noted above that you wrote some wise words, and in a very eloquent way. They are most appreciated. Considering that you have certain desires for a continuation, would you lend your voice, to ours, in an effort to bring a continuation movie from possibility to reality?

But I understand why some of my fellow TOS fans find it painful to watch this remake... They invested so much emotionally with TOS.
And would like to see the fates of the original characters. I can understand this totally.
But, I like both shows...
so I am sort of in a good positon right now.
Frankly there are really 3 versions of BG...Moore's..Glen's...and Richard's.....and unfortunately I don't see anyone pushing Richard's Adama family centric version....so I am not getting everything I want.
This new version only has BG's name...it is a totally different experience. BGTOS..was on the same plane as Star Wars.....based on more magical and spiritual themes.
The new BG seems to have it's roots in Anime.....that is what I am so enthusiatic about it! It is more earthy and up close and personal in it's character. There is some spirituality...but in a more subtle tone.

And we really freaked Tom D. out when we said there was a similar idea in Richard's Books. heehee. Someday one of us owes Tom an explanation of that.
