I was just not impressed with the special effects from what I've seen so far. My wife taped both shows, I haven't had time to see all of the 1st or any of the 2nd. But that 1st scene where the Vipers intercept the Cylons, it just didn't look like the Vipers were moving at all, it reminded me of the claymation series the Thunderbirds on the Tech Channel.
And that transport, wasn't that the spacecraft they used in the Coneheads? It just looked ridiculous.
And the Galatica itself looks like it was shaped out of an asteroid, it just stinks.
It's amazing that people actually like it. If this is the future of sci-fi shows it's going to be a dull future.

I found the SFX to be very dark and monochromatic. Half of the time, I could not tell what was going on. I also did not like the hand held camera look. I found it annoying rather than innovative. The Galactica looked small and undetailed. The ribbing on the outer hull was redundant and visually boring. The shot during the final battle where the Galactica was shooting "anti-aircraft" fire looked cool but was ridiculous. Couldn't the Cylon robot ships attack from another direction? I know that they wanted to be scientifically accurate with the way ships move in space but they still had exploasions in a vacuum. I guess they picked and chose what they wanted to show accurately. I hope that these types of effects do not become the trend for the next two decades.
