Greetings all,
I thought you might like to see some pictures of the classic Battlestar Galactica ship, The Celestra, as faithful to the original as I could make it. Anyone who wants to post a link to the images from their site is welcome to do so.
I truly wish this ship were being used in a continuation of the original series, instead of the remake.
Take care, and best wishes to all,
Ken Thomson

P.S. For those who really liked the mini, I hope you will also watch and enjoy the original series that gave it its genesis. There you will find many hours of great entertainment and fine performances by some of the finest actors ever to have performed in Hollywood.

Lovely work.
I'm in Australia so I've yet to see the mini.
What role does the Celestra have in the mini, and can we expect to see any more cameos from TOS ships?

The Celestra appears in the second part of the miniseries, mostly seen during the escape from the Ragnarok station, but she shows up in a few cameos elsewhere during the two hour second half.
The Gemini freighter and Colonial movers ships are prominent, as is the prison ship (Astral Queen) and the agro ship which is less fortunate than the others.
I enjoyed building the ship, and I thank everyone for the compliments. :)

Really nice work, Ken. I can't believe you were able to see that much detail of the ship from the TOS. You must have the eyes of an eagle!
What software did you use? 3DS, Maya....????

I created it in 3D Studio Max 5.0, delivered it as an .obj to Zoic, and Lee Stringer converted it to Lightwave, where it was animated and a final weathered texture was applied to it.
As far as seeing detail, much of it is created from my imagination based on vague shapes I could see in video captures from "Take the Celestra."
There are a lot of details that are 100% accurate, and many that are best guess, or substituted for things which would look silly if you got a really good look. For instance, the girders on the base of the original are an artist's easil (SP?). That didn't work for a high res model, so I kept the concept but made it steel girders and altered it slightly.
Watch for more views and close-ups of detail coming soon. :)

I would also like to point out the difficulty in that this ship wasn't featured till late in the season. And the big DVD box wasn't out for reference. So that makes Ken's feat even the more amazing.
:D
ph man... my tying is getting bad... I looked back and saw I wrote Ken's FEET are amazing... and well... lets not go there. :D
