Well ... it's over ... and ... I've decided for certain ... It is definately a whole new story ... with common names and common pieces ... and while I would love to see someone take hold and run where the original left off (not inluding Galactica 1980) ... I love the potential this new one has ... and would hate to see another great thing die before it got really started ...

It is certainly frustrating when a show you like is cancelled before its time. Just ask any fan of the original series how they have felt for the past 25 years!

ViperAce, what exactly did you like? Personally, it left me sore and bored.

My likes ... well ... outside of the many changes ... it's easier to cover what I did not like ... so imagine the original series never existed ...
-Lack of Music (Big Overbearing symphony is a vital part of good space SciFi)
-Lack of Centurion Soldiers (they were by far the most intriguing aspect of the Cylons ... would have liked to have seen a whole troop of them in action)
-There was very little in the production that I saw that could tie the Colonials to early Earth civilization ... something the original had ... it's going to be tough for them to fill in the gaps should they ever reach Earth.
-the Length ... With one ... even two more nights, they could have prevented some of the gaps in the story where we had to do our own fill ins.
-New Battlestars ... we heard about them ... but never saw the newer models that were replacing the outdated "G"
Other than those ... it kept me intrigued ... first night was a little slow ... but no worse than a bad episode in any story.
Hope that answers it...

so, the pacing wasn't too slow for you?

Slow last night ... but not too slow
tonight I felt was very smooth ... right to the cliffhanger "So Say We All!!!"

I just couldn't get into it, though the second part did pick up a tiny bit.
I think it was the directing that sank this ship for me. I was hoping that if at least they got some good directing then all the other issues I had with it I might be able to look over but I was very disappointed. Glad you enjoyed it. How do you feel about the original and how do you think they compare. To me, this would have better credibility as it's own show rather than a remake. But, I still think I wouldn't like it.

It ruled...Space combat has NEVER looked this cool since " The Last Starfighter" or "Enemy Mine".

The original was something suited for children, while the remake was much more adult oriented.
While parents and prudes may have issues with the darker nature,it is right up my alley.
But while BSG has gotten grittier, the old Bugs/Road Runner cartoons have been tamed. What gives?

uhm... I think alot of people here would really disagree with that "made for children" remark :)
It was an adventure. This is drama.
And please don't call my friends here prudes. They aren't.
We just like our show a certain way. We thought it was fun the way it was. True it could use better writing but it had a much more charismatic cast in most of our opinions. It is still (I think) the most popular scifi show to ever air on tv, ratings wise. :)

Tom he needs to know us better LOL I like light hearted sci-fi with heros etc to take me away for a time, all this did was depress me.
Do we really need anything more to depress us?

I liked the premise a lot. A race of people have been wiped out, a few survive and under attack they set out to save their race. I don't see how that could be lightheated.
I agree it was drama, It was dark and very posed very challenging questions. I like television and film to ask questions and present ideas that challenge the status que, not just escape from daily life.

Is there not enough of the dark stuff on now? I like sci-fi as an escape.
With all the crap on TV now, is this wrong to want a more hero oritnted type sci-fi?

Maybe so but this is once again the wrong forum area for negativity.

To clear up one point on my position ...
I loved the New & hope Eagerly for it to continue ... as seeing good SciFi die fast is too common ... now as it always has been BUT...
I ALSO loved, and still do, the original!!! (with the notable exception of Galactica1980 ~ Sorry to those who like that)

20 years ago you could get away with some of that cornball stuff. I thought that BSG 80 looked very similar to Buck Rogers.

Oh My God .. there's an idea Buck Rogers Re-Imagined!!! Seriously!!! I think THAT could be completely overhauled without many complaints

This was not a remake but a new image of a 1970's tv show. It was slow but enjoyable to watch. Look at Star Trek...the had three spin-offs that ripped off TOS. And they even did TNG movies....whoa. Eventhough this is not a continuation I can give it 2 out of 4 stars or a C+ score.

Well BucK rogers was sort of reimagined once already and I think the second where they were aboard that science ship with that old doctor and that guy that looked like a bird was just about the worst sci-fi ever.
Sometimes I wake up in the night hearing "EZRE HARDEN", LOL!

Spectre, if you ever get the chance: go to a con that Richard Hatch is at and see his Great War of Magellan trailer. The guys that did the combat scenes in that--it was fantastic. And something that would make a fantastic series or series of movies or miniseries.
