Yes, the proceeeds from these will be going towards paying off the Galacticon Debt, in fact it's why it's being produced.

I am working on it authoring it now and will be getting it to the duplicator before Christmas. It will be jam packed with material, a "virtual convention" in your living room!

We hope to sell at least 500 units of the first run we are placing which will go towards the convention deficit.

Thanks for the plug. I know Richard appreciates it.

What date is it due out. Because I would rather get it when it comes out as apposed to pre ordering. Simple reason Christmas is round the corner and I would rather perchase it after as apposed to before. Plus I have a few things awaiting on Amazon.

Hello, it is fans that enjoy Richard Hatch that will buy the DVD. Hatch is the reason we are here!

I want to see some fandom well into that state called intoxication

Yeah, I'd like to see it.

Especially with the trailer on it.....(ain't EVER going to see it am I ?)

To get around the legal issues of the trailer, how about charging us for the convention DVD program and throwing the trailer on as a FREE extra? No SAG problems there!:D

An easter egg, you think?

Like Michelle said, only if there's a miracle.

I learned something a couple of weeks ago.

If it's fanfic, forget ever getting it published for real.

Richard's trailer falls (more or less, the legal wrangling about copyrights is beyond me) into the fanfic category. You can write what you want, you can spend whatever time and money you want to on it, but if you sell it or otherwise produce income with it they will be all over you like stink on ... well, all over you.

So unless the rights for Battlestar Galactica is thrown into the public domain (hope they never are, people), the odds are we will never be able to purchase a copy of the Second Coming trailer unless Universal grants special permission (and takes a healthy chunk of the purchase price for themselves).

It's an interesting area, but what makes things confusing to me, is that the recent "Batman-Dead End" trailer, which was shown at the San Diego Comiccon and which featured Batman, the Joker, the Predators and the Aliens (characters owne by WB and Fox) was recently released (sans any fanfare or hoopla) on "Movie FX Magazibe", a DVD magazine presently available in Borders. I don't know if just not promoting it's inclusion is what kept it off the studio's radar, but it's there, and I doubt the magazine of filmmakers got permission from WB or Fox to put it there or had the funds to pay them and if some kind of special deal was reached, I don't know why it couldn't be applied to the "Second Coming" trailer. It's something I am going to investigate myself.

I think what most people miss at the end of the "Batman" fan film is the disclaimer.
"This film is not for sale or resale. It is strictly for the promotional use of the filmmakers"
So the magazine you refer to is a trade magazine and the film is being used as per its disclaimer.I would suggest that since the trailer was actually produced in this manner.(being used as a promotional tool.)This disclaimer could be used here. But I wouldn't count on it.

When it's being sold in retail stores nationwide.

Richard's trailer though is a different issue on another front. The reason it can't be distributed is because of arrangements made with SAG (the Screen Actor's Guild) to use SAG actors in it without them being paid SAG rates. That's the reason it can't be distributed (unless everyone could be paid for their work at SAG rates.)

So the "Fan Film" lesson is: DON'T use SAG talent, DO use disclaimers when making films as promotional tools to demonstrate talent, and MAYBE your fan film can get released without any fanfare on a DVD Magazine (as "Batman: Dead End" recently was and the "Star Wars" parody "TROOPS" was several years back on another monthly DVD magazine.)

Jerry, Would you happen to know which issue of Movie FX Batman: Dead End was included on? Based on what you said here (about no fanfare) I bought the current issue but it ain't there. Neither is it listed on the contents of any issue on their website.

It's in the Movie FX Issue 7 with the Terminator and Wolverine on the cover. There is no reference to the "Dead End" short on the packaging, you'd have to know it's in there ahead of time.

hmmm... That is the one I bought. I haven't watched the whole DVD but I went through all the menus and sub menus looking for it. I didn't see it anywhere.

It's there. it's also mentioned in the magazine liner notes as the program featruing the hot action characters that they can't mention by name.

Pretty sucky huh? If you wanted the video you wouldn't know where to find it, and if you own the video you don't know it's there!
