Lowdown? How about ass clowns!
Here i am this morning, 2 am. My son wakes me up for a glass of water and ole dad can't get back to sleep. So off i go to the couch and on comes the tv. I flip around and run into the scifi channel. It was not my first choice or intention to tune in this channel but hey i hadn't seen Red Planet yet with ole Val Kilmer, soooooooooo i watch. Ya know as bad as it was it wasn't to bad at all. I bet Carrie-Anne Moss is glad she has the Matrix on her resume'. Oh well enough of that. Low and behold at 4 am there rebroadcasting Lowdown, the inside look at the new Battlestar Galactica. Well i'm up and i missed it the first time so what the heck, let's see what Ronnie has to say. I should have went back to bed.
Folks i put my artistic advancement on the line for this? I am totally and utterly dismayed at what i just saw and heard. There is absolutely no chance in hell that this thing will ever make it. I saw a few clips of my stuff, exciting to see at first, dismayed the next to see how it was used. This must be the same feeling that Carrie-Anne Moss had right after she finished filming Red Planet. I was a part of this? God i only hope i get a chance to redeem myself. It wasn't the visual aspect that pissed me off it was how these producers and cast just tell us to get over it and move on. Hey Katie, bite me! If i see your face on anything else in the next coming years i will make sure to avoid it like the plague. What a way to usher in the new Starbuck. First, you can't act. Second you do look rather manly, third get over yourself! How dare you tell the fans of this epic show that kept it's light burning all these years to shut the hell up and go home. How dare you sweep us under the rug like a used cylon diaper so you can bask in the limelight as the new Starbuck. Well katie, you couldn't hold Starbucks ashes. THIS is the reason that i will not watch December 8th no matter how much art i put into it. I WILL not justify this show and i feel utterly disgraced and dirty for even attempting to work on this crap. To the fans i am truely sorry for this, it's not something that i am proud of.
It's interesting that the Producers/directors used the offices of Zoic to conduct there interviews. Ron, i sat on that couch and i'm going to have to burn those clothes now. As far as David Eicke goes man you missed a golden opportunity, litterly. How in the hell can you people sit there with straight faces and spew this garbage? Personally i couldn't but it's based on money and power isn't it. Well you will have alot less of both after this thing airs and the people see how bad it is. Tell me Ron, when you discussed the *campy* feel of the old Galactica had you really truely watched it? Ron says in the original there really wasn't a back story to the Cylons. Well Ron you seemed to have filled that in but hey man you forgot the humans all together. It's really ironic when you look at it Ron, you took from Peter to feed Paul. This mini series makes less sense than the original. Oh and Ron, nice phones on the Galactica. I think i seen them on the set of Wing Commander, did you borrow those from Todd Moyer?
People Scifi has been lost, everyone wants to make reality. What in the hell are you hollywood people thinking? Reality is being woken up at 2 am to get my son a glass of water. Reality is getting up at 5 am to get a jump on my days work. Reality is paying for the satellite bill every month so i can watch pathetic productions like this every week on the scifi channel. I have and see reality every day Ron, i DO NOT want it in my science fiction viewing. CIC on the new Galactica is really breathtaking. It really drives home that your on this grand warship being put out to pasture with all it's dip switches and world war 2 guages. I didn't think anyone could take a step backward from the original Galactica bridge but you guys did it nicely. Nice hinges. I will tell you one thing the sound effects are just stellar Ron. Can't wait for everyone to see the Viper launch out of the Galactica to dead silence. As a matter of fact next time tell me when your making another grand movie like this, i'd like to be there. It maybe the only quiet i can get.
Sorry folks, i'm rambling now but i'm just a bit pissed off this morning and i haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet. I should not have watched lowdown it only made me angrier. I cannot believe that the creators of the new BG have the nerve to tell the fans of this great series to shut up and get over it. Well i for one have now have a renewed vigor to make sure that the real and true Battlestar is never forgotten. I should probably offer thanks the creators for making this because after the people see what you've done and the way you've acted it will help us achieve our true goal, the rebirth of the one and only Battlestar Galactica.
Oh one last thing! Number 6 get a clue, your not that great.
;)
Now where are those clothes.......

Wow Dude, don't hold back:D
Now I can't see this Letdown or the Mini-series premire 'cause there is no Sci-Fi here...there is Tuseday Morning Football. You should not miss your work on the screen. Mute the mini-series and have a pleasent conversation with your family on the couch. Then when you see the battlestar get hit with a missle cheer...you'll feel great!
I look forward to seeing the work you Ken did in the future.

I understand your anger, believe me. Myself I'm just going to let it go.
Why? Because this will go NOWHERE fast. Just like the Dr. Who telemovie.
The Cast sucks with the exception of Olmos who is just miscast. If anyone should replace Adama you need a powerful voice and screen presence, such as James Earl Jones, Sean Conery, Patrick Stewart, some one who enters the scene and you go "WHOA". Olmos is a good actor but does not command that kind of presence.
This has a weak plot and will not hold new fans, the only attention it will get is from the sex scenes. The final deathblow is the alienation of the fans. We were their best shot at an ongoing series and they BLEW it.
What I don't understand is Richard has worked long and hard for years for a revival. He has been true to the story and listened to the fans in response of his novels. How did someone else like Moore get elected to the project instead? Why not give it to Richard who puts his own money and time in to give the fans what they want?
Well whatever happens I guarantee that there will be no series. If there is it will be put on the air just to thumb their noses at us instead of admitting they were wrong.

Wow Titon, don't get angry, get busy!
We need the Tom & Don double-team kicking astrum's and taking names here at CF and keeping the memory of the real BSG alive and this..err "production" a bad dream.
Just like our opinions haven't been heeded at Universal, does anyone really give a frack what those mini guys think anymore?
Battlestar Galactica lives right here and all over the net, all over the world and most important of all, in our hearts.
Long live Battlestar Galactica, 25 years and counting! ;)
Never give up! Never surrender! I want MY BSG!

I don't like the deal with it comment but in her position she probably is tired of all the cristicsism and it is not really her fault, just an actor trying to do a job.
When the crappy ratings come back it's something they will have to deal with.
This thing is on the Sci-fi Channel, it's not syndicated, it's not a movie. It may as well be a direct to video movie.
In other words, it sucks.
You want a cool BSG experience? Play the game.

Wow Titon, we all knew this would be bad, but to hear it from someone who would miss seeing his own work really drives it home! Don't worry about our thoughts of you, we know we can't feed our families on beliefs alone.
One thing rings true and is the saddest part of all this. There seems to be a burning desire to hurt the fans who made this revival possible at all, rather than extol their work.
I never want to wish ill will on anyone. it's not me, but I do hope the show receives what it has given. We all need reminders from time to time of the value of other people's dreams, especially so many that share the same one.
In this day and age, a little kindness could go so very far.

Listen guys, it's not the work that i did that i'm upset or the FX at all to be honest. It's the direction of the show and what there doing with what i loved as a kid. The people at Zoic are all very wonderful and i have nothing but good things to say about them. They had no more control over the direction of this thing than we did. If it were not for Zoic none of the ships would resemble the past at all.
Saying that if given the chance anyone should follow there dreams. If i had it to do over again i'd be there in a second but that doesn't mean that i have to like the direction. This could possibly be the only thing i'll ever work on and i'd leave knowing what i did was good.

After reading, I had to see lowdown. I just don't know what to say. The only resemblence is the name, you would think they all came from earth. I think all ths sex crap is simply their way of trying to salvage this POS. I hate to say it but as spectacular as the FX are, I am not sure this stinko can be saved, what a dissapointment

Don,
Universal threw the pearls down before the swine. We know what they took sledgehammers to something that far excelled this and was a lot more of the right way to go (heck, any of Richard's books where the 1st draft was published would have been more right even with the typos and stuff he wanted to fix.)
Now quit being hard on yourself. The folks that "created" this alleged version of Galactica have simply lived in the hog pen too long to be able to recognize good archetypal heroes and the public's love for them. They've been dumbed down to mindlessness as they rolled in there own feces and fattened up eating slop.

I think Olmos has just as much presence...as those mentioned....and maybe with more grit and bravado to boot. Nothing like a old Blade Runner to play Adama....

Not to diminish Olmos, but what those actors I mentioned also have in common is a powerful voice that backs that presence up. Just as Lorne Greene did. You can close your eyes and recognize those actors, hell you can listen to those guys read the phone book and it would sound interesting!
Olmos doesn't have that, don't get me wrong, the man is a DAMN good actor, especially when he played Jaime Escalante. But as good as he is he is not the right man for Adama. There was only one Lorne Greene, I was just mentioning men of his calibre as a refference.

Richard mentioned something in another thread which I thought was neat and true. You need someone with a "biblical" presence to play Adama, someone like Charlton Heston (I think it's so cool he named the same person as me). Even a good actor like Mr. Olmos will have a hard time portraying that kind of presence. To me, Lorne Greene was and always will be Adama; I cannot imagine anyone else filling his shoes. He was the patriarchal father figure in Bonanza and it was a perfect fit for him in BSG. I would not want him recast, but if he were, you would need someone like Mr. Heston to have even a chance of getting away with it.

The truly sad thing is, the world is only getting to see one side of this - their side, their opinions, their flaming. I thought our belief system stressed showing both sides of an issue equally? People cannot fairly make judgments if they only hear one side. Editing out Richard's comments that would have made them look bad is like controlling the media, at least to me. I had hoped we had left that era far behind us.

They believe, it to outsiders it would appear that they have, that they have done this by haveing Richard there in the first place, and showing the comicon footage and having Boomer's bang buddy claiming to be a HUGE fan of the original and saying the new is better.

"Comcast changed it's station line up (again), and the SciFi Channel is still one of my available channels. Damn! "
I have Comcast as well and they're taking SciFi from expanded basic to their digital package. This means I'll loose SciFi if I don't dish out more money.
Well I'm not sad about loosing SciFi, and I'm certainly not going to pay more for it.
There was a time when I would have paid anything to get the SciFi channel, but it's now filled with such mindless crap that I'll be glad to see it go.
Remember when they started producing Farscape, First Wave, hell even the Invisible Man. I thought they'd become a leader in original SciFi programming. Now all we get is Scare Tactics, Battlestar Sexfestica, and the "oh my god it's a mutated ______ that's going to eat us!" movies. I swear the writers must get out their elementary visual encyclopedia of animals, flip open a page, point, and whatever animal is under their finger will be the latest creature to be mutated in one of their movies.
When my SciFi goes away, I will miss nothing about it. Glad to see it go.
Enough rant for now.
Best to all,

the thing that pisses me off the most is thier attitudes. like they are something special and that we low lifes need to bow to thier greatness.
they are nothing but over paid jackarses. they need a strong slap in the face of reality. bimbo's hyped up by the media are still bimbo's. they will come and go.
in 20+ years people will still be talking about the original series BSG, while people will look at this new mini series much like G-80 now.
there is nothing that can be done about the mini, it will come and fade quickly, like a bad dream. all we can hope for is a continuation done by desanto/larson. let them pat each other on the back, reality will hit them when the show fails.
what i hope is that it does go to series, only to be canceled mid run for low ratings. that would be perfect for those arrogant pissants. they would still blame us(sf fans), it wont be thier performance, but our lack of understanding at what they are doing.
frack 'em dead, i dont need them.
( *edit* i tried to put in "f r e l l 'em dead", put it keeps coming up "frack 'em dead" whats the deal a filter that changes f r e l l to frack?)

Dude, I totally 100% agree with you. The obvious snobbery of the Execs and actors in this mini is leaving me with a very sour stomach. I'm going to record the mini, so I can catch the clips with the Celestra and your shuttle, but I just don't think I can sit through it and be force-fed something that makes me want to toss my lunch.

of watching the Lowdown last night. It was just to see Dirk and Richard. I think they really made a HUGE mistake putting clips of TOS beside the mini. It just looks cheap in nearly every respect beside TOS. The sets, the characters, even the "new" viper looks like they pulled it before it got ripe. Too squashed. Baby viper. The hanger bay looks like it was made of plastic. The battle scenes, well, there's a lot going on, but you can't really SEE anything. And the new Cylon raiders: don't want to hurt anyone's feeling here, so they just look unright! Stuff has been borrowed from every source available EXCEPT Battlestar Galactica. They remind me of the ships in Independence Day and Stargate. The red light on the ships does not do anything for me Mr. Eick except make me want to put my dvd of TOS in to see the real thing. The new older cylons mechanical look familiar. The endoskeleton of the Terminator anyone?
My favorite things though were the shots comparing Starbuck and Kara Thrace. He comes off as charming, cocky, but elegantly cool. She comes off as one of those women who does not know that she is a woman. Not every strong woman needs to knock her superior officer or men in general on their respective butt. She's petty. The real Starbuck would have found a devious, but legal way of exposing this precieved inept officer. He manipulated the system, that's why he loved pryamid: beating an established system. And if Kara sees Husker as a father figure, why is she tormenting and beating on her father's friend? Generally, most kids don't go around punching their parents' pals.
One messed up America, I mean, set of Colonies. I miss the grand elegance of those sets. The look of those pyramid shaped buildings in TOS when the Cylons bomb Caprica City is still amazing. Their city could be any city.
They tried to make it "real," but this mini just looks cold, dull, boring. It's too familiar. It's amusing that TOS actually tried to take us to a new, different world, filled with a new set of laws, systems, architecture, and designs very different from own, and succeeded very well. It seems more real than the "real" Ron's trying to shove in everyone's faces.
Just my thoughts,
Carolyn

You well know, I joke with you, Lee and others about only watching the mini-series if I'm ONLY watching the f/x portions (if I were watching).
It's too bad there won't be a "Special F/X Director's Cut" -- with only the f/x stuff. (LOL) God, only then could we say, "This mini was so frackin' cool!"
That would mean: No Cylons raping humans. No "flawed" characters who are humanity's only hope while many are unable to get along amongst themselves in the face of their collective destruction. None of the wacky script antics which degrade the name "Battlestar Galactica."
Above all: No forgetting the original series -- or why it can still work as a continuation, but not as this putrid daggit doo. Just stunning visuals that scream, "What COULD be -- and might yet be again." (Rock on, Mr. Larson.)
(Raising a hefty glass of ambrosia to you, Lee, Michael, Mark, Ken, James, and the many others who add a professional shine/polish to whatever you touch -- including this production which was DAMN LUCKY to have your talents. Take a bow, folks. We honor your work.)

I really hate to say this....please don't hate me. Thanks to their snubbing the original and Olmos and Katee saying those things only generated more hype for the new mini-series. People are going to tune in just to see how bad it really is and others may do it because they want to see why BSG fans would be upset. All of this felgercarb is going to go away in less than a month after the Sci-Fi Channel plays it ten times. Then it will go to DVD and we will have to deal with that. By February we will have to worry about the new series....yes that's right. From what I have read online it looks like the mini will spawn a tv series...they have a green light. Despite ratings I think they will go ahead with the project.
BTW, I don't blame people for their mistakes but hopefully they will finally let Richard and Tom have a go at it.
