In order to prepare for the roles as Viper Pilots the cast had to undergo intensive bootcamp training under the supervion of an ex Special Forces Officer. How they could show Starduck hitting Paul Tigh is beyond me if they wanted a military feel to the show. Starduck would be under arrest so quickly that her eyelashes would fall off. Even Pappy Boyington knew enough NOT to hit a superior officer.

To quote John Belushi from another (ahem) Universal production: "FOOD FIGHT!!"

A slugfest to end all slugfest aboard the Galactica. What a wacky thought. And for a minute there, maybe I would have tuned in to watch it, had it been scripted... not. (hehe)

Oy... the pain! THE PAIN!

Paul: Agreed on the Gregory "Pappy" Boyington comment, although I can't recall if he did indeed strike a fellow officer during his tour of duty. (I'd have to dig out my copy of his autography and re-read it.)

One thing is certain: I know a growing number of active as well as nd honorably discharged, military men and women who find the Paul Tigh/Kara Thrace scene to be "an abomination."

I still think if you're going to reimagine the Galactica, have the ship return from visiting the Hasari (or another nearby world) with the attack hitting the Colonies -- and their inability to arrive in time. And the crew of the Galactica should be the BEST of the BEST which rubs salt into their open wounds that they couldn't do anything to save their people. (And the rescued would adopt a scornful attitude towards the military despite this.) I wrote this out earlier this year (or was it last year?) and still think it would have worked.

THAT, my friends, would have kept honor intact on the show, although we'd still be complaining about other aspects, like the lack of the original cast in their roles, etc.

The biggest question is how could such a dysfunctional military with such a lack of morale and respect for the chain of command ever hope to fight the Cylons in any form, whether robot or blow up doll? In my opinion, with the state of their military they would be wiped out by the end of the mini series, thus no need for a weekly series.

I read Boyington's own book, "Black Sheep squadron." Boy do I have news for you. Boyington might of had the reputation as a troublemaker but most of what we saw on the TV Show was fiction. A History Channel special also cleared up many of the myths about him and the squadron. NONE of them were troublemakers or misfits. ALL were without assignments due to having their squadrons lost in various battles. Boyington took initiative and formed a squadron from these unassigned pilots. They made their mark and did it the proper way. Some were even pissed when they saw the show at how Hollywood had portrayed them. Henry Bourguis was the real life Frenchy character and even laughed at what had been put on screen. They also showed the Black Sheep's love lives which was totally bogus because the only women in the Pacific theater were interested in high ranking officials and not mere Lieutenants. One member even mentioned that if there had been that many women there he would still be there.
