First let me say I was a huge fan of the show when it first aired. I watched it on TV, ran to the theater to see it in Sensurround, read the comics, etc.
I may have even joined the fan club and gotten some junk associated with that.LOL.

I just watched Battlestar Galactica the Lowdown.
Here is a true blue fan's reaction to all the changes.

I can live with a lot of the new stuff INCLUDING Starbuck being a woman although I agree with R. Hatch that you can't change key characters. I'm willing to keep an open mind though.
I'm also willing to accept a bunch of English accented actors even though the flavor will be different for me.
I'm also willing to accept a female Boomer. Albeit this acceptance should not be necessary as they should have kept key things the same.

That said MY HUUUUUGE problem with this before it even airs is when Ron Moore said that the Cylons would be in Human form. The reason I have a problem with this is you may remember there was a highly anticipated show a decade back that tried this same crap. You may remember WAR OF THE WORLDS.
My God was that a train wreck. All that said I am still going into this with an open mind. I just wish they would have kept what the fans LIKED about the show and improved on the cheesey stuff.
Even the remake of Lost In Space didn't change key elements, as bad as it was.
The problem isn't about fans complaining before they see it, the problem is a show being made so different and not much of the original being left but still wishing to ride on the coattails of the name.
As far as they have gone with the changes, this show COULD have been named anything.
Myabe in 20 years they will remake Star Wars and Han Solo will be a Woman.

Heh.....welcome to the site..

Frankly Galactica 2003 is just another detour from the original show IMO.

Grace Park as Boomer is the only thing I am really interested in...although Olmos is cool too..;)

The Adama family is once again ignored.....No Adama,No Athena and No Apollo from the original concept......Only Richard has manage to capture the "real feeling of the show " in his books...from what I have read....

Everybody from, Larson,Moore and even De Santo want to focus on something else........always away from the original Adama family....what happend to that strong concept???? (Although I have been told Apollo is mentioned at the end of De Santo's concept...which basically only mentions Star Buck and Boxy....No mention of Athena at all..grrrrrr)

Galactica 1980

Galactica 2003

BG movie?????

If I was just into this show I'd be very frustrated......thank Goodness for other alternatives...like Andromeda and SG1....:) Even B5.

Like the gentleman who started this thread, I was a fan of the original show, and remember feeling sad when they cancelled it. Unlike everyone on this board, however, I haven't been active in the fandom for Battlestar Galactica... for me it was just a fond childhood memory.

I just happened to be looking for something to watch on TV this evening, and ran across that "Lowdown" preview show on SciFi. I hadn't heard a word about good ol' BG being brought back, so I watched it.

I started out muttering "what crapfest is this?" at the beginning. By the end I was shouting it out loud. The whole thing was insulting, not only the entire concept of the show as they "re-imagined" it, but the comments of the actors basically telling their audience to go to hell (which I must admit was a very strange way to advertise for an upcoming show).

I watched it 'til the end, though. Then the first thing I did was modify my TV remote so SciFi is off the channel rotation. Then I went to SciFi's website, and discovered the many comments on that forum, and a post where someone mentioned these boards. I came here, and found that all the emotionally involved fans of the series have known about this junk for a long time.

I've just glanced through some of the threads here, and there's nothing I could say about this horrible "remake" that apparently hasn't been already mentioned before. But I thought I would post to let you know that even a fairly causal fan was utterly repulsed by what SciFi has done.

Oh, I will say that whoever owns Babylon5 should sue, since apparently these guys stole their sets. And with as much sex going on in it, it seems to be one of those adult film "parodies"; or perhaps the Playboy channel helped finance it.

Even with only dim, 25 year old memories of the original series, I could tell that this was not Battlestar Galatica. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only causual viewer who will feel the same.

Welcome to Colonial Fleets Wastrel! You are not alone, a good majority of the fans are as shocked and hurt as you sound. The thing that stings the most is that they seem to /want/ to hurt us, and truly ruin the dream of a continuation we have cherished for 25 years.

There is much sadness right now, but there is hope too! There is a chance that a movie may be made that honors the original. Keep in touch here to see what happens, and welcome!!!

Welcome new friends.

Do as Jon says, get the DVD set and see it in all it's glory, then get the game if you have a playstation 2. You will not be disappointed.

Again, welcome to Fleets. Enjoy your stay.

You know, I started out thinking I could accept a few changes but the more I think about it, this is an insult to the original fans. They want to use the name of the old show to draw in the fans but they want to change one of the favorite characters that we liked.
At least they could have done like Planet of the Apes and changed ALL of the characters.
