After all these years, I am so thrilled to see footage which has always been cut out for today's way-too-many commercials. They show Athena nibbling on a mushie in The Lost Warrior -- kinda looks like Soylent Blue... (but that's another story :))...
So excited to see it! And tons more footage of my namesake! I love these DVDs!!! :D

What's a mushie?

Forget it, I've already asked that and got nothing.

My guess is that it is some sort of candy. Boxey teaches Muffit to sniff out mushies in Fire in Space, sounds like something a child would do for candy. What do you all think?

There is a asian desert called Mushi I think. (pronounced Moo-shi) It looks exactly like Mushies. They usually come in little squares or small round balls. They come in pastel colors:white, pink, green, and I think blue.
The whole thing has a very mushy doughlike texture. The inside core is a very sweet paste made from beans. I think the outside doughish covering somehow comes from rice. But it don't feel like rice. And its dyed one of those colors I mentioned above. Then covered in sugar.
I tried, but I can't find a picture. But it screams "I am a mushie!" to me.

I bet that's what they actually used, Tom. Just exoctic enough to be other-worldly.
Muffit: I love the extras where you hear them calling Evie, I've yet to hear them call another chimps name!
Wasn't the clip with the nuts & bolts left in the carpet when Muffit moved off screen, funny? I think that was a deliberate joke by the crew!

FG and AlphaAce, in BSG a mushie is clearly some kind of candy-like treat. In The Lost Warrior, they show it when Athena is dining with Starbuck. It appears as a small pastel-blue square, eaten as an after dinner treat.
Before seeing this scene, I had only heard of a mushie being used to lure Muffit somewhere (like Fire in Space), and it was never shown. When shown on TV the Athena scene was always cut for commercials in reruns so this is the first time I got a chance to actually see one. (Before this I thought it was only a daggit treat).
It's just another wonderful BSG icon, like their jargon. Hope this helps.

P.S. Thanks Tom for the info! That's probably what it's based on.

We got to see mushies in Fire in Space - the tray of them that gets put in the ventilation shaft, and the mushed mushie out of Boomer's pocket.
Haven't looked at that one yet - kind of busy at home.

Hi Dawg! I could not see any mushies in Fire in Space when I looked at my VHS tape, so that's why I was so excited to see them in Lost Warrior on DVD. I will look closely at that ep (FIS) on DVD to see if I can spot them.
Thanks!

On a copy of a BSG blooper reel I have, Terry Carter (Colonel Tigh) performs a spoof advert for mushies - filmed during the making of 'Fire In Space' - where he brings the tray of mushies to the air vent.....
"Hi Kids! Have you tried Mushies?"
(He picks up a mushie)
"They're really delicious,"
(takes a bite...)
"and what's more, they're nutritious."
(takes another bite...)
"M-U-S-H-I-E-S - Mushies, tell your parents."
(takes yet another bite...)
"They're really..." (he finishes off the mushie) "wonderful."
(Now with a mouthful of mushie, Terry keels over looking ready to barf/vomit!)
What a performer! What an advert!
All the best,

Hi Muffit, I got the tape a few years ago from a local collectors fair, from the 'Starland' stall (I believe they are an American dealer in Sci-fi memorabilia that regularly trades at UK fairs). The tape also contains Star Trek TNG, Babylon 5 & Star Trek TOS.
But I was told at Cult TV that I shouldn't really have the tape (I think the idea is that they shouldn't be selling the tape - a bit naughty really!)
I remember posting about this tape on Yahoo Groups sometime ago. The BSG reel does take a few 'pot shots' at the show ('The Galacticrap' for example), and the picture quality is pretty ropey too, but there is an interesting song at the end called "We Gotta Find Earth", sung by Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch & Dirk Benedict - I'm not sure where the song was sourced from though.
All the best,
Ian W359

Thanks Ian :). I will keep an eye out. I do have the Star Trek TOS bloopers tape. The video is really bad but I've heard that's the best anybody has of it. It's really funny. I love the part when Spock says "The spores act as a suppository" and grins and puts a cigar in his mouth. :D
I would love to see the BSG bloopers! Maybe I'll find it sometime. Thanks Ian! :D

Thank you for explaining what a Mushie is. I've been
wandering that for ages and now FINALLY I know.
Whether or not I'll ever have one though .......I don't know. ;)

The picture quality is about the same as my copy, but it's still funny!
