I appreciate all the congratulatory words, guys. I just consider myself very lucky (and thank DVDPlanet), and I hope everybody gets theirs in the next few days. (Am I the only one here who ordered from DVDPlanet? sdoziernc1, over at CA, got his yesterday, too, from them.)

Yep, it's worth waiting for. A real milestone for fans of the real Galactica!

BTW, I started a "review" thread last night so everybody can chime in on it when they get theirs:

Frack!!! back about two months go I left my Debit card in one of those old time ATM machines, the ones that take your card all the way in. So any who I forgot my card and missed the beep-beep "take your Card assclown" warning. I NEVER UPDATED MY NEW CARD NUMBER WITH DVD PLANET. I checked my order status...CANCELLED.

I rushed off to the local Best Buy today. After Dawg's coup, I just *had* to be the next kid on the block to get my mittens on these. Best Buy had the best pre-release Canadian pricing. I learned that they had 12 in stock, and looked up and down in the Sci-Fi and TV sections for the box set. Not on the shelf (as expected).

So I had the employee scurry out back, hoping that maybe someone had unpacked them from the Universal boxes. No such luck. One of the twelve has my name on it and is still sitting stacked in a corner with other Universal product. I guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday.

Arrrrrrrrrgh.

I didn't order my DVDs from Amazon.com until the 10th of this month. I noticed that the charge on my card showed up yesterday, so I just checked the status of the shipment. It shows that the the item was shipped out UPS ground from Delaware at 11:30am eastern time today and it still has a projected date of delivery of the 23rd or 24th. I paid the 2.98 for shipping, but I thought that it was supposed to arrive in 3 days, not 5 days. We'll just have to see how long UPS takes to get it across the entire U.S. by ground...

The cut scenes are precious. I started looking at LPOTG scenes based John’s Tele-movie thread, with the exception of Cassie’s scene they gave so much depth and should have been included. For all those mini-series types who say Baltar is silly and lack depth and motivation another gem of John Collicos and Baltar’s motivation is one of those cool deleted scenes.

The running commentary with Richard, Dirk and Herb is like watching with some buddies over cold beers…some times you want to tell Dirk to shut up and “hey Hatch while you’re up grab me another cold Sam Adams”.

Thank You Buy.Com

John Colicos was a fine actor. I saw him in a Twilight Zone ep and he was incredible.I think BSG needed a 2nd season for Baltar to really shine.

I got mine wednesday from Amazon, and it was a surprise because I was waiting for the email telling they send it but looks like something was not so well with my email and doesn't received it. I was expecting other dvds so you can imagine my reaction when I see it was Galactica.

I couldn't wait a micron longer than necessary for my BG collection--I was at a Walmart Tuesday at 6 a.m. to see if they had any copies out. No such luck, and the "help" wasn't very...helpful. 6 a.m. clerks didn't seem to know if it was even going to be in store and if so when (regardless of the fact that walmart.com was listing it).

10 a.m. saw me at Circuit City. They hadn't unpacked the box but I and another BG fan nabbed ours anyway. (It was GREAT actually seeing someone else buying it at the same time I was! We are EVERYWHERE, Galactica fans!

I was initially disappointed by some grainy scenes in "Saga" but have ventured all the way to "Man with Nine Lives" as of today and I'm more than happy with the quality of video. Not so happy with the audio, but hopefully a new home entertainment system/stereo will change that.

My favorite deleted/unused scene so far: Cassiopea walking onto the bridge in "Long Patrol," causing Omega to stammer and bridge officers to leer.

It's a good time to be a BG fan! (Hope I'm still saying that come December...)

Got 'em, but have a problem, not with the content but with the quality of the actual DVD disks, Universal should be ashamed. These are not as good as say, Captain Corellis Mandolin or 12 Monkeys, I have both, they are thicker, I guess Universal was suprised! Plus the new DVD's do not have BG logo on them, at least Universal could have contracted a better quality disk, with The Battlestar Galactica logo & info on each disk.

I liked the look of the new enhanced new DVD’s are better than the two hour, five minute, Widescreen 1.85:1, Dolby Digital 1.1 Mono. The new DVD's of the first three episodes. The only bad thing is the quality of the old DVD disc is better and I do not need to cut a damn light on the read the number of the DVD disk I’m planning on watching. Upside the Digitally enhanced new DVD’s are a joy to watch, no break-up, no pixel degradation & the sound is better.

I just checked out the amazon.com rating: # Average Customer Review: Five & ½ out of Six stars, # Amazon.com Sales Rank (DVD): 38 as of 5:18 pm EST 10/27.

Gemini1999

I finally got mine from UPS today - a few days late, but I got 'em!

I prepared a nice snack and opened up the box...I gotta tell ya - that Cylon head was the worst packaging idea yet! I can live with the oversized box and I love the booklet that came with. I even like the way the 6 disks are "booked" together and fold out and all...

I went straight for the "Extras"! I pulled out Disk #6 and watched "Remembering Battlestar Galactica". I learned a lot I never knew from some of the people who where right there instead of reading it second hand for a change. I was so happy watching just this one piece of TV history being told, I almost forgot everything else!

I wans't going to dive into the episodes yet, but I did watch the deleted scenes from "Saga of a Star World" and then watched the entire episode. BSG never looked so good - I'm so glad that we have a Dolby Surround system - it also sounded terrific once I got the balances right on the speakers. I could actually understand bits of dialogue that usually got lost in everything else that was going on in the scene. I was so jazzed watching the first episode - it was so sharp and clear that I almost remember what it was like the first time in 1978.

I'm ready for more, but I've been up since 4am and it's time for bed - I'm pooped!

Best to all,
Bryan

My set was waiting for me today at work. Al,
I'm with you! DVDPlanet is still showing my estimated shipping date as 10/21/03! That's a week ago. I've sent them a note and not heard anything yet. If I haven't heard from them by noon tomorrow, I may cancel and pick up a copy at WalMart. There were several copies on the shelf there when I was shopping for a GS camping trip on Friday evening. I thought about lining them all up. Imagine the clerk's surprise if they'd seen all those Cylon images "looking" at them. Too bad they didn't add a cheap LCD and battery to make the eye glow and roam.

Finally got my DVDs!!! Boy am I jazzed! They showed up at my door at just the right moment - a minute later and I would've missed them!

ABOUT THE DVD BOX...

I want to mention here something about the DVD box, at least my feelings on it. I think it was a brilliant idea whoever thought of it. It dominates the competition, and on a store shelf grabs the attention of both those who recognize it as BSG and those that think, hmmm, what's this??? This alone is enough to help BSG storm off the shelves, and we should be thankful for that. The eye clearly didn't work out as intended. It was supposed to be like those plastic woven finish cards that show you different images as you reposition the card. I think the intent was there and that was neat, too bad it didn't work out.

And don't fret the box being oversize -- the set comes nicely presented as a box within a box. The box holding the DVDs is just like any other DVD set on your shelf, and you can just remove it from the big one and store it like all your others. The big box belongs on top of a bookshelf anyway as a conversation piece, or, if you don't like it, you could hide that away somewhere out of view.

MHO folks(!) :). BTW, the box immediately grabbed my family's attention and curiosity and definitely is helping me induce them to watch!

From Walmart in Corbin, KY of all places! I had ordered mine from Sam Goody in Corbin, but problems, problems. They didn't get even one copy in! I was getting aggravated!!! Walked in at Wallyworld and voila, there it was the LAST one! Grab, hug, don't want to let go even to get the thing scanned and checked out! LOL.
Anyway, it's been wonderful! All of the extras, deleted and expanded scenes are amazing. I wonder if the scene on WAr of the Gods with Starbuck hitting on one of the angels was the inspiration for origin of Galactica 1980's Dr. Zee? It was an hilarious scene! Spiritual child, indeed!
And the shirtless scene in the launch tube with Starbuck and Cass was priceless! Finally, I got to see what all of the censor's problems were about. By today's standards, very innocent stuff. Dirk and Laurette seemed to have been having a great time! Sigh! The new mini would have been cut all to pieces by those censors of 25 years ago!
Speaking of which, I have NOT viewed that preview of the mini on there. It's not even a consideration with all of the stuff available from TOS at my greedy fingertips!!! It's just an annoying blip on the dvd taking up valuable space!!
Over all a Very, Very happy woman here!

Sounds like the former owners of DVDPlanet really stuck it to the new owners. Not only did they NOT give them all of the pre-orders, they make the new owners' customer service department look like idiots to those who don't know about the management change, and as a result, cause them to loose business! I know I'd be upset about it if was my new business. The funny thing is, my order still shows up on the pre-order list, but the new management cannot access that. When I cancelled, I did get a response from them in writing that they would not be downloading my old pre-order at any point in the future.

P.S. I was originally excited when Dawg reported that he'd already received his copy, thinking that mine would be only a day or two behind his. It was not to be.

I pre ordered mine on July 17, and still haven't gotten them yet. Amazon sent me a notice that they have been shiped and should have arrived October 29-30th. Maybe today will be my lucky day.

I got the same messages: mine came in this morning. I'm watching (listening to really) side 1 of disc 6 1st because it looked scratched.

I like the little booklet that came with it. :) So far disk is OK.

That's great news Jewels!
I just tracked my package at Amazon and my dvd's were shiped Oct 29 from Fernley NV, and now are at Hodgkins Il.
I've learned a good lesson here, next time I order I will pay more for faster shipping!:D
Oh well, maybe by this weekend I'll be enjoying them!

I guess it helps to live relatively near a shipping center. The one Amazon uses for me is in Kentucky which is only a state away, so I usually get any merch within 2 days. Even that wait was excruciating!!!!

You will LOVE the DVD set!!! I still get it off the shelf every day and just look at all the contents. I am going through all the special stuff included first like the documentary, etc.

I will then start going through the episodes and deleted scenes...

Finally! My set arrived Friday, and I was able to dig it out and watch Saga of a Star World last night. My initial thoughts:

The packaging was very nice, but I'm not sure about the long term durability of the folding "box." With the difficulty I had removing the first one, I'm worried about the difficulty in getting the DVD's off their spindles (or whatever you call those things). Fortunately, thanks to discussions here, I knew to be very careful.

The picture, for the most part was as good as could be expected. I was able to zoom and see some details that have been discussed here. Being able to view the deleted scenes was good, too.

The best part:

It was Battlestar Galactica!!!

Can't wait to see Lost Planet of the Gods.

I have to send mine back.
I hadn't removed all the disks when I got it and when I took out the 3rd disk and turned it over there was a crack through half the disk, you could only see it from one side. I tried to play it and it wouldn't even recognize it as a DVD. I had trouble getting it out but I was careful and I know there is no way I could have done that to it, I have tried to break CD's before and it isn't easy. At least Amazon is taking it back and sending a new one at no cost.

Did anyone notice this:
In Fire in Space, Sheba launches into the 1st battle (the Cylon ramming attack) with a Pegasus helmet. During the battle her closeups show her in a Galactica helmet inside her viper. Oops. ;)

I'm glad that Amazon is replacing the disk for you Artemis.
So far so good for me. I have watched the first three disks and havent run into any problems. Disk one was a little fuzzy at first but then again I was watching it on my son's PS2 system, not the dvd player. That may have had something to do with it.
I love the extras, and can't wait until I have time to watch the other 3 disks.:D

Is there anyone here who has not had difficulty removing the discs from the box? My ST:TNG DVD's are packaged the same way, but those discs pop right out pain free out of the boxes. Out of frustration, I now have my BSG DVD's stored in CD plastic containers! :choco:

They are very difficult, although I didn't have trouble with the 2 single sided ones, 4 and 5. I just got my replacement set and this time I visually checked all the disks right away. I found I could get the disks out easier if I rotated them slightly while pushing on the center release tab. You do need finger nails to be able to do this but the disks didn't bend at all. I also put them back in by pushing the release tab and they didn't seem to get set in to the point of being difficult to pull out but are secure. Now I just have to hope they all play right, the second disk had some scratched and smudges before I touched it. :nervous:

I just finished watching "Saga" with the commentary that was done with Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict & Herbert Jefferson Jr. I have to say that it was a lot of fun hearing those 3 guys watching it for what was probably the first in a long time for them. Hearing them reminisce about "the old days" doing the show and what went on in their lives while it was going on, made for some really great moments.

They had so many great comments about their fellow actors (Jane, Maren, Laurette, Sarah, Lorne, John & Terry) that you couldn't help but focus on what they were talking about. The comments about the direction, camera work, SFX shots, costuming were very informative and fun at the same time.

I could go on and on about this extra, but I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't used this feature on the 1st disk yet.... If you haven't yet - take the time and watch "Saga" again with three of the best guys you could sit down and watch it with...

Best to all,
Bryan

I just received my set today ... :woof:

It was delayed at the customs and then the postal service for more than a week and it got taxed too :( ...

Loved the packaging but I faced the same difficulty with Starbuck when I tried to remove the discs and have placed them in plastic covers as well for safety.

Just spent about two hours watching the documentaries and interviews. Can't wait to start watching later today and luckily have two days of holidays in Malaysia later next week because of the end of ramadan.

Just want to thank everyone in this thread for helping me make up my mind and order it ... now just have to wait for the PS2 game and the 25th anniversary CD.

Take care all and have a good weekend. Don't think I'll be getting much sleep tonight ;)

I got mine today, and everytime I think about it I feel like squealing. That box is just the coolest bit of packaging I think I have ever seen.
I only had a couple hours, so I watched most of the deleted scenes, very interesting indeed...
I had no dificulty removing the disks, most of my DVDs are in packaging like this, so I've had a bit of practice at it (note: if it gives you a struggle, stop and go at it from a different angle, and of course make sure you're pressing on the centre 'spindle').

Glad you got yours FG! :) Me too, I'm used to this type of disk holder.

Trevor, I just had problems with disk 4 too, in Man with Nine Lives, chapter 2 time 15:00. I checked the disk and saw no marks, but cleaned it anyway. Guess what? Works fine now! Tried it several times and it's perfect. Maybe the disks just have to be squeaky clean to work?

I watched Saga of a Star World today with the commentary. I don't think I've ever done that before. It was a little odd, like having rude guests talking all through it, but it was interesting to hear some of their thoughts on making it. And Dirk's thoughts on his hair colour.

I agree dec5! She was a beautiful woman and had a presence. Its a shame to hear on the commentary about what had happened. I thought she was VERY good. Maybe the way she was treated is the reason she remains hidden?

I would like to finally declare..... I've got mine!!! (well, yesterday - and only a day after I got my copy of 'Paradis' and the 25th anniversary CD!)

With the Region 2 DVD standard and Cylon set releases on January 12 confirming my suspicions about the layout of the UK version, (7 discs - 6 for the episodes, 1 for the extras - the same as Australia - Region 4) I decided to go for the US set - It's got it all!

It took just under a week to reach me after my order, and lordy, it's big!

I'm impressed by the quality of the packaging, although the sticker on the back of the box can easily pick up fingerprints. As for the discs themselves, they appear to be in good order (I've only handled disc 1). The booklet is really great too, with a nice layout.

I've only scratched the surface of the set so far - I've watched the Glen A. Larson & Stu Phillips featurettes, and some of the deleted scenes from Saga of a Star World (some interesting points to make about those!), but I hope to watch some more of it this weekend.

In all, a great set.... but why did I have to buy Region 1 (US) in the first place? Why couldn't Universal release the same material in each territory for everyone to enjoy? A puzzling question indeed.....

By your command,
Ian W359

Okay, home sick (head cold) so going through the recently arrived set. Disk 1 and 2 are viewed.

Anyone else have any trouble with the commentary? I have NO problem with the movie, or the deleted scenes, but I can't get the commentary to play.

Hi Imagination,

Several people have had problems playing various parts of certain disks, and it seems to be rather random, not just one certain disk or feature.

First you should try carefully cleaning the disk, even if it seems clean. All my errors went away when I did this, even though they looked clean and I had been very careful. I guess these disks are especially apt to encounter problems, more than likely due to heavy compression or similar.

If you are still unable to get a feature to play, the best thing to do is exchange it. Several people have done so and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Hope this helps,
Muffit

I've played 'em all on Xbox and the only problems I've noticed is a bit of stuttering during some the features deep on the disc, this is something I blame on the Xbox as it never happens in the same place twice.

I was actually suprised they weren't other issues for me.
