I remember something about the fan outrage over rumors of the original Trek show's cancellation. They wrote NBC in such large numbers that they brought it back for a third (and final) season. Also, NASA named one of the space shuttles Enterprise after an intensive campaign by Trekkies to name it.
My point is, it's been done before and it can happen again!

The Trekers had Gene leading the charge, we need Glen and Tom working with us, then we would be unstoppable.

Actually, it was not Gene leading the charge. It was fans like Bjo Trimble who put the pen to paper to lead the legendary letter writing campaign that got Star Trek its 3rd season.
Gene actually left the show during the 3rd season. DeSanto and Larson know we are behind them. I think the best way to help them is not to write letters to Universal on their behalf, Larson already has said that he will not work with Universal in regards to ANY Battlestar Galactica motion picture.
I think what we should do is not write blind letter saying how we hate the Ron Moore mini-series, especially when we haven't seen it yet (I know, most of us feel we've seen enough) Personally, I am going to watch it and itemize EXACTLY why I dislike it. If you write big old rants without having seen the new one, it won't carry as much weight as it will when armed with information. I know it might be too much to stomach at this time. Watching it doesn't mean you will have to like it. But if you write a letter criticizing the mini without seeing it first, it will sound like a rant and find its way into the circular file faster than you can say "Frak!".

First of all Stray Viper welcome to the boards.
Second of all, I agree with you on your post.

But only If you write with intelligence behind what you put to paper I agree with Rally that your letters and e-mail should have you points about what you like and what you don't clearly stated with sound reasoning behind what you say. This was a show that should have lived for at least 5 seasons and was shut down well before its prime. Shows like BG1980 didn't help the forwarding of a continuation of our show. So if it is ReWorked retooled redone or reimagined as long as it isn't a frakken mess lets give the new series a chance to live or die on its own merits.

I wonder if Universal/Sci Fi actually need us to LIKE the miniseries or merely to just WATCH it. I don't think they care whether we like it, as long as we watch it. They're probably banking on that.

If we are going to seriously consider this (which I whink we should), we should follow in the footsteps of the Save Farscape campaign (speculation is that we won! http://www.tvguide.com/news/entertainment/). If we mimic their professionalism, etc. in saving our show they'll have no reason not to listen to us. However, I believe that we should not officially start until after the mini airs because I don't think they'll take us seriously until then. Besides, it'll be a lot more powerful if we still want a continuation after having seen the mini.
