This is a scenario I have wished I could see since the TV show began.

i think toe to toe the star destroyer would win, it would be close. i love the big G but i think the star destroyer would edge out a win.
<ducks the rotten apples being thrown.>

Yeah? Here is how I see it: SD vs BS, the SD would win hands down.

But the Vipers against the TIE fighters, the TIEs would outmanuver the Vipers to a point but the Vipers would outrun them and outgun them. I think a Viper would hold up longer against a TIE's guns than a TIE against the Vipers guns. That is in terms of how much damage they could take and remain in one piece. I think a TIE's guns would damage and destroy the Viper after several shots and direct hits, but the Viper's guns would blow the TIE apart in one shot. So in a dogfight battle starting with equal sides, I think many of the Vipers would be the only fighters remaining intact at the end.

However:
The Star Destroyers are much more manuverable than the Battlestars and I think in a head to head battle the SD would move around the BS and strike it from the vulnerable sides before the BS could turn to fire back. That is all IMHO, or course.

studio was funding the movie. But the Viper being faster and and heavier armed than the Tie Fighter could hit their opponent, turn around, and hit them again. And the opponent couldn't catch up with them.

My take:

I agree on the Vipers versus Ties. Vipers would win on toughness and damage count. That's good because they'd be needed to help the Galactica with the Star Destroyer. If the battle was launched from a distance so the fighters engaged first, then the Galactica and the remnants of the Vipers would take out the SD. If they engaged at short range, the Star Destroyer, which outguns the Galactica in terms of heavy weaponry, would have a good chance of wiping out the Galactica before the Vipers could move in to help.

Heh, fan bias is interesting. I posted this same poll on a Star Wars message board. Here the BSG is leading the votes, and there the Star Destroyer is. LOL.

The battlestar. Many of her guns can be directed forward, while the SD'd guns are side mounted, and you'd have to bring her around to engage. We never saw what missiles the SD has, but the Battlesatr seems more maneuverable. remember, the two SDs that collided in TESB. AND the SD has a single launch bay. If the BSG could damage it early on, she'd be crippled as a carrier.

I can take on that star destroyer with my VIPER!!!!!

Dang it! I took out a ton of them in Rebel Assault and X-Wing! Now I wanna do it in a REAL space fighter! ;)

That's true, Tom. Similarly, in Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader, just take out the shield gens on top, the reactor below, and then attack the command deck....

And watch it fall!

I've still got to finish the last two or three missions in that game.

Of course, you didn't expect different?

What no one mentions is the dual forward main canon up front on the Battlestar, the one used with a wide dispersement pattern in the episode Experiment in Terra.

Let us not forget that the Star Desroyers are more heavily armed and I believe may have thicker hulls the a Battlestar. Also Star Destroyers have energy sheilds.
As for foghter craft the Empire has more than Tie Fighters to use.
They also have Tie Interceptors, Tie Bombers, Tie Defenders, Troop Transports, Shuttles and Assault Gunboats. These are all part of the ships compliment and can be called upon to defend the ship. With all this on there side they can make short work of any Battlestars, Vipers, Raiders or Baseships they may come across.

The Empire vs The Cylon Alliance, We never knew how big the cylon race is but this would be a interesting battle.. The mighty Galactica would defeat a single SD, There pilots are bad shooters like Cylons!

I would have to say that a Star Destroyer would be able to outgun the Battlestar. Recent information has proven that Star Wars weapons are incredibly powerful. I don't think we have ever seen a clear demonstration of how powerful the Battlestars actually are. Besides, the shields on a Star Destroyer would give it a definite advantage over a Battlestar. In Fire in Space, the Galactica was rammed by a cylon fighter, and apparently the Galactica's shields (if it has shields?) couldn't prevent the damage. Anyways, that is my opinion. However, the Galactica does have a heavy cannon on its nose. Who knows? That could be strong enough to knock out a Star Destroyer, but the information isn't conclusive.

Back in the pre-Ewok days of Star Wars, there were those that would have rather had command of three-four Star Destroyers than a single Death Star. And a Battlestar along with a Battlegroup of three-four Star Destroyers would definitely stand to take on all challengers and probably kick some after-burner.

That leads to all different kinds of cross-over possibilities. :emperor:
