On Daggits

I didn't know where to put this post. It is sort of a rant but here it goes anyways. Daggits are an important part of the BG universe. As Dr Wilker said, "They stood guard over the Colonial Warriors while they slept." They are important because like there Earth conterparts dog patrols they save lives. Dogs have been used in every war to date and are even are used by Police Units to sniff out bombs and other dangerous objects. Moore didn't want them in his mini because he wasn't keen on the concept. He is wrong. Muffit managed to fell a Cylon warrior(Saga), save a life (Fire In Space), and even saved the raiding party in(Gun on Ice Planet Zero) when he found help. Kudos to Muffit. :D :thumbsup: On a final note, Muffit was even replicated in Galactica 1980. There were three of them. :D

Good points. Ron Moore has gone to great lengths to ensure that this mini-series is far-removed from TOS. The only items that he is using are those which (he hopes) will rope in the audience -- the names/call signs, the 'red-eye' on the website, the token appearance of the Cylon centurions. Some will argue that he is staying close to the original in terms of concept, etc. I disagree. Not even acknowledging daggits is yet another instance where he just "doesn't get it".

Some good points kingfish. I have always thought the daggit/muffit part of BSG was that special family/emotional touch that set it apart from other sci fi. After seeing the eps so many times, I find that it was used quite sparingly. The thing BSG contained which the mini does not is quite simply heart. And heart that reached out to all genders and age groups.

Personally, I am thankful Muffit is not in the mini. One less reason to watch and one thing at least which will not be spoiled.

There are the Klingon Targ - not exactly a canine, but they fill that bill.

I'm actually surprised that no daggits or other pets made it into the fleet, given the number of children.

Why should he include daggits, he isn't even using the original cast???! The louse!

Anyway, I agree. I think the daggit gave the show a warm-hearted touch; made it more human.

I just loved it in SOSW when Muffy bit that Cylon's leg!

If this mini becomes a series I would like to see them have daggits but real ones. I was not a big fan of Muffit. No offense but he looked to hokey IMHO even for the 70's.

"Real" daggits would be an improvement over Muffit. However, I don't feel that Muffit was hokey. I was very young when I first saw BSG a few years after it was canceled. Back then even Ewoks were cool. :colwar:
