The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is going to be on Sun, Oct. 12 at 6:55 AM / EST

If you haven't seen it, its an old black and white classic, but a good one. If you liked Somewhere in Time you'll probably like this one.

Gene Tierney stars as an widow who takes on a beautiful but haunted mansion. She was known for her cool classy beauty. Rex Harrison does a great job as a salty old sea captain who has something to say about a WOMAN owning "Gull Cottage."

Gene Tierney is a favorite of mine. She was pursued by John F Kennedy and Howard Hughs. They use to call her the Grace Kelly before Grace Kelly. And you can't tell, but she broke her foot a week before filming started on Ghost and Mrs Muir. You can't tell she's in alot of pain especially when she is running!

This is my favorite film of hers. :D

I found a FANTASTIC painting of the film. But beware! It spoils the ending if you haven't seen it yet!!

Thomas if my memory serves me right I believe there was also a tv series of the same name that starred Edward Mulhare as the Sea Captain.

AMC also airs a movie titled Von Ryan's Express with Frank Sinatra. Edward Mulhare has a prominent role in it as the chaplin.

Edward Mulhare was also on Battlestar Galactica as "John" the being from the Ship of Lights.

He was also the boss on Knight Rider.

And I use to watch the tv show too! I didn't know at the time there was a movie. It was in color too! But I'm pretty sure it was the lovely Hope Lange who starred in it. The show was a situation comedy. :D

The only character who was in the tv show and movie was Charles Nelson Reily I believe. :)

Wrong answer! It was Hope Lange that played the part of Carolyn Muir in ABC's The Ghost & Mrs. Muir during the series run (1968-1970).

I loved that show! I had a friend that took me to see the house here in California that was used for the pilot episode and that 20th Century Fox used as a model for building their studio set.

I didn't get to see the Gene Tierney/Rex Harrison film until many, many years later. If you watch the film closely in comparison with the first season of the TV series, you can see that plots used in the film version were used to inspire entire episodes for the series.

I would love to get this show on DVD.....

Best to all,
Bryan

Dang for me too :). I can't use the timer on my VCR cuz it only lets you select the channel to record, and I am using a line input not a channel (it goes thru my receiver and I use the composite cable not RF).

Please let me know if it comes on again Thomas!

awwwwww bummmer!!!!

Am I the only guy who watched it? :(

I actually was up late, and realized I had to stick a tape in the vcr. But I found I had recorded it on an old vhs tape. I stuck it in, it made a weird sloooow noise, and didn't play. I ejected and pulled the cassette and a long strand of magnetic tape was still attached inside the vcr!!!! Arrgh! But luckily, I had recorded alot of that stuff where they talk before the show so the bulk of it was untouched. :D

whew!!!

Sometimes my vcr eats tapes too. That usually means it's time for a cleaning. (I've lost a few tapes due to that).

I too forgot to watch.:(

How much do they charge for a cleaning these days?

amberstar

I Don't know. I buy a do it yourself tape cleaner. It runs between $7 and $10. To take it to a shop for a cleaning I have no idea.

I do the cleaning tape. I know enough to clean it like the pros. its not too hard. Open it up and use a cotten swab doused in rubbing alcohol. on the right parts. Its that simple.

But I'm lazy and do the abrasive cleaning tape too. :D

I have never had any luck cleaning VCRs. I tried the cleaning tape and it destroyed 2 of my VCRs. I took one apart and cleaned the head myself and the magnetic head fell off. I usually just buy a new one, it's about as cheap as having one cleaned. And I try to make sure I only put new good tapes in it.

ouch muffit, that is bad luck. i usually open them and clean them with q-tips and alcohol. once every six months and they work fine. my oldest vcr is a 8 year sony and i think it has about had it. when i clean it, it plays fine but when i record on it i get color fade, dark to light. i guess the head has had it.

muffit- how did it destroy your vcr? did you apply the rubbing alcohol and let it enough time to dry afterwards?

How do you open a vcr?

Knowing me if I opened one I would never be able to get the darn thing back together.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir was one of my favorite movies *and* Television shows.

The TV show also has Reba (Rita?) Shaw as the housekeeper and Charles Nelson Reilly as the Captain's penny-pinching nephew. (Reilly's character was soooooo very annoying *blech*)

thomas7g

yup. very annoying. I liked Ed Mulhare though :D

I can talk about this show for quite a long time, so you probably don't wish to get me started. :)

My favorite episode was "Have some Madiera, My dear"...

A very convoluted plot about everything Carolyne had to do to sneak off for an romantic evening with her favorite ghost...

Thanks! Actually, I tried to get on here a month or two ago, but...

*whispers* I was stuck on WebTV at that time and since it can't use Cookies properly, I couldn't get it to work with the Forum.

But... my Comp likes it just fine. *G*
