Check this out!

Scifi has upgraded their mini Goo3 Website.

What's your opinion of it? how would you rate it? Do you think it is any better than what they had just yesterday?

Personally I think its somewhat of an improvement. The original version had extremely loud sound effects that hurt my ear. That loud ping! The thunder sounding noise is better.

Now I think I've earned the right to be a nitpicky critique. I think I can do better than that. :)

I like how the letters move around. But as they stabilize they wiggle rather unprofessinally just for a few seconds before they lock. It doesn't look like they wanted the wiggle, it looks like an unprofessional error. Though I DO like how the updates pictures rise up.

The closeup of the eyeball looks kinda bad. Like some horror movie ad. I would have done something like add machine bits to the eye that are subtle.

The rest of the site seems to have this cloud background that looks kinda cheap. It uses your standard 'render clouds" function of photoshop with a bit of enhancement that don't help alot. The problem is it goes to a pinkish color. And that doesn't work well.

I like my desktop download better. :)(http://www.colonialfleets.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4411)

personally...I really coulda done better....I coulda used the work. :D

I just saw it, but I really don't care since I don't go there to find out anything related to this travesty...

I took a look, I did see some things that might appeal to some viewers. But the Bridge is too large for a series. Just think of all the extras you will need just to have adama talk to someone on the bridge.

The mini is going to be a one shot deal, SciFi will have in away reestablished thier ownership of the theam. But we will then see a move to do a revial (my personal opinion) as a major feature film. This last just makes too much sence for a major player like NBC.

LOOK INTO MY EYE.......

Curses, it's back. And more obnoxiously in our face than ever before.

But honestly, I don't see much difference, it's pretty much the same material just rehashed with new graphics, alot of which we've already seen before. It's really nothing new.

I havent been to the " out house " much lately. Too much of the same old Felgercarb going on over there.
The pings were too loud, I turned my sound off everytime I was there,
But that eye gets on my nerves too. The format looks better but still looks cheep.
I like Conundrum's desk top much better!
Just goes to show you scifi's taste is rather tasteless :)

Well, I honestly tried to look over the new site's design with an eye on design, without considering the content. The design is good, in the sense that the site is well organized and the interface is very intuitive. The graphics used on the home page are well put together. I'm not terribly fond of the background they selected. I'd agree that CF's nebula background is far superior. For some reason, I found the background somewhat distracting. It almost clashed with some of the foreground graphics, particularly in the character section.

One odd thing that does relate to the site's content. Isn't it strange/ironic that the traditional cylon eye, the red moving point of light, is a motif that is used repeatedly on the site, such as on the main page and when other pages are loading? Is this another attempt to appeal to fans of TOS? Interesting.

that is a good point about the eye. It doesn't really match the show anymore.

And I agree... that the buttons and everything are much more intuitive.

I get a kick out of how there dressing these characters in suit's and tie's.

Is this science fiction/fantasy or LA Law meets Lucifer?

*shakes head*

I believe the other design was better. I was just at the site and it took forever to load up. I couldn't find the new trailer or buttons leading anywhere.

The funny thing is they keep saying how they want to go for a "this is us" feel. It may feel so much like us, so as to loose all sense of a science fiction show. To me, it will just look like not only could they not afford actual Cylons, but could not afford wardrobe as well.

I don't like the new design.

I'll be damnded if I can find Dirk Benedict or Richard Hatch ANYWHERE.

I liked the old design with the viper at the top better: navigation is improved but the caked on mascara eye does nothing for me (other than make me think cheap porn flick chick). Gag. Did you notice the popcorn letter is gone? They must have wanted to make sure NBC didn't get a hold of that PR nightmare....

Also liked the pic on the classic site that used Dirk, Richard, and other cast better than the cylon pic.

Either that, or they realized how silly it was to have his 70's Hair Remark, when RDM's own 70's hair is now plastered all over the site.

what exactly is the popcorn letter?

jjrakman

That was the introductory letter to the fans on the old web site where he made a remark something to the effect of if you agree with us then great, if not the popcorn is in the other isle.
