If any of you haven't checked recently, you would have missed this. According to a new report via the Scifi wire website. Universal television is looking to bring to you a new genre channel. Yes that's right a new genre channel. Not been complacent enough with screwing up the Sci Fi Channel by trying to make it appeal to a broader demograthic with the questionable choice of content such as John Edward, Flintstones movies and all manner of other stuff that most Sci Fi Fans would not consider to be Science Fiction. Universal our planning a new channel dedicated to the genre of classic horror.

The buzz right now is that they have big horror movie producers involved such as wes craven famed for his productions of 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' and the recent Dracula2000 movie.

So in spite of the horror content which this new service may well provide if they have someone witha brain as network president. What you think the fillers will be. Repeats of Baywatch maybe, or perhaps grissly documentory footage of a sex change operation. You have to ask what can universal do right of late. Sure am being cynical but hey I was born that way.

None the less, here is my theory. The channel will launch in much the same way as Sci Fi did great ratings, great content such as horror movies from the vaults such as old Dracula movies starring the late Bela Legosi, some mini horror series produced by the likes of wes craven and other big time names from the genre. A couple of years down the line, they will hire some incompetent blonde to take over the raigns who will happen to be friends with somebodys grandmother who reads tea leeves and a whole new concept of horror will be born called 'Reading Tea Leeves The Bonnie Way'

Of course they would have to hire Shannon Doherty for that one, I mean she is the classic horror movie feme fatale anyhow. Have always seen her as a kind of 40 something morticia in the making. Of course by the time Doherty is 40 she will probably have more plastic appendages than Cher anyhow.

So I guess my accessment is. The Horror Channel will be a hit for the first five years until the network suits get bored and hire a 'Yes Person' called Bonnie or Dave as network president and then all the horror fans will be up in arms much like us Sci Fi fans are now. And wow here is one for you. They will do a remake of Psycho 2 and call it Psycho 2008 or something dumb like that. Norman Bates would probably be played by the guy that almost choked on a snake in the movie 'Road Trip' whats his name now Tom Green.

Tom Green and Ron Moore have something in common, there both out of there, Frackin minds
Send that Horror, Hammer to this Cnannel, She screwed up Scifi and Galactica. bout time she left
And make the Scifi channel just Scifi, No Flintstones, VIVA Stones, Braveheart, the Postman, Waterworld.
theres a place for all that at the USA channel or at Disney , and Horror is Horror, not horror is Scifi!

if it is done right it could be great, all the classic horror thats out there. dracula, frankenstien, black lagoon, the mummy(1932 boris karlof not brendon frasier), the wolf man and the phantom of the opera. all of those are universal property, unless the rights have been sold.

they could bring back mystery science theater and do the classic b horror films. there are alot of options, hope fully they do it right.
