"I hadn't seen the whole notion of women in the military. That is a relatively new idea. It's become more part and parcel of the way things are done in today's world, but hasn't been explored very often on camera."

That was hilarious! And but one example of what Moore is all about. It's either blatant lies or he doesn't know what he's talking about.

And of course, we can go on with more examples ...

Demi Moore in "A Few Good Men" ...

All the other Star Trek shows ...

Mulan. It addressed the issue. Does that count? ...

And many more, I'm sure.

Yeah, I guess he forgot about those eps. of Star Trek: TNG that he WROTE! Maybe he has that special kind of amnesia where after only a few moments you forget what just happened? Poor ole Ronnie. Such a shame that strong, vital women make no impression on his memory such as the ones listed above.
Thanks for the laughs this morning,
Carolyn back form vacation and a internet crash!

What is Ba Ba Black Sheep, Gotta Pic? Now Earth 2 was just scientists, right, no military involved?

makes you wonder how an illegal alien with no experience of america, can just create a false identity (Diana Prince), and just walk into the US War Department and pretends she works there and no one is the wiser!

And they even send her paychecks!!!!

btw- you forgot about Police Woman with Angie Dickerson. And the fluffy Charlie's Angels. Maybe not the best examples. They were also cliche, but then having the woman as the "masculine" brawler is also cliche.

On Wonder Woman;

I don't remember what exactly her position or rank was or how they established it on the TV show. But...

In the original comic (Sensation Comics #1 from 1941) Princess Diana met an army nurse by the name of Diana Prince almost immediately upon arriving on "Man's World." The nurse had wanted to join her husband overseas and was distraught that she had to report to Washington DC instead. Wonder Woman offered to assume her identity and position so the real Diana Prince could join her husband. The "real" Diana Prince was never mentioned again and the nurse part was soon dropped too in favor of established position as a secretary for Military Intelligence.

And for another completely useless piece of trivia about Wonder Woman, the character's creator was a psychologist by the name of William Moulton Marston. Marston is widely regarded as one of the first feminists but is most famous as the inventor of the lie detector polygraph or machine.

This has been usless trivia fact # 47 brought to you by the invisible letters A and O. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

And how about Alias (Jennifer Garner ... *sigh*) does being in the CIA (or thinking you're in the CIA) count as military?

When Ronald D. Moore became a writer on Roswell, it went from a few teens with a secret, to everybody in Roswell is in on the SECRET?

Why YES indeed!

ALSO IN ON THOSE 'SECRET' ALIENS: The FBI, The Sheriff, his son, a Lawyer/Husband, the Football team, the Cheerleaders, waitress' in space suits, teachers, guidance counselors, the Basketball team, the geeks, the cool crowd, the janitor, the chess club, the hop scotch team, the checkers team, the Roswell ALIEN museum staff, the parents that adopted two of the ALIENS and an entire Indian Tribe. Eveybody kept the secret about the three ALIENS a secret, really, this is true!

(if I left anybody out I'm very sorry)

JJ could not make a collage of everybody in on the secret ALIENS on Roswell, CRAY does not make a computer that fast.

Oh yeah, the FBI forgets all about three teen ALIENS in a jeep, yeah right.

From evil twins or triplets, to different factions from some planet either trying to kill or suck up to the 'King' of all the ALIENS, also a student @ ROSWELL HIGH & in love with a mere less than Royal human girl but real cute, at least the girl goes to Harvard not CORNELL!?!?!?

(I wonder why?)

Oh yeah, my subject, Ronald D. Moore and one women he wrote about:

Katherine Heigl character Isabel Evans, while as an 18 y/o high school senior secretly married a 26 y/o Cornell educated lawyer, Jesse Ramirez. HE COULD NOT SHUT UP ABOUT CORNELL, he waxes ad nauseam about the arm pit of the Ivy League, yeah you guessed it too, CORNELL!!!

Btw: Ronald D. Moore went to CORNELL (anybody here surprised?) Katherine Heigl is a very attractive babe, I wonder what Mrs. R. D. Moore thought of this very public on TV Freudian slip?

Ithaca NY cannot hold a candle to Chapel Hill NC, or that school on the Charles River (not MIT) by a long shot.

Oh yeah, Captain Sisko is pissed off, also! (no st: ds9 movie) Ronald D. Moore, did that one in, too!

RDM :barf: is the sort that likes to hear himself talk. Yeah, we have strong female charactes in shows and movies, but they don't count because they weren't HIS creations. RDM :barf: is one of those "writers" who have decided that there is only ONE writer of genius, and that is themselves. Since NO ONE ELSE has EVER written with such brilliance and depth, such cutting-edge greatness, he will, and goes on forever and ever ad nauseum, beating the dead equs into pulp, to prove over and over again that HE IS THE ONE!!!!!!!! Of course, we are all BLIND and without true perception, since we cannot see what is right in front of our eyes; his utter magnificence!

I mean, if you are honestly too stupid to invent strong female military characters, you mean to tell me you don't have assistants who can do, you know, RESEARCH?!

Why does this idiot even have a job?

RDM :barf: is one of those "writers" who have decided that there is only ONE writer of genius, and that is themselves.

I think you might have hit it on the head.

Now, I do get RDM's point. A lot of the cited examples above didn't really look very hard into women of the military. But to ignore MASH??? Really???

I've started rewatching the RDM Battlestar Galactica. It's been long enough that I don't remember much. Sometimes when I watch something a second time, I can approach it with a less critical eye and just enjoy the show.

I admit that I am enjoying the show more this second time around.

But I still feel those stabs of pain where the show just runs off the cliff.

"They Cylons have a Plan".

Maybe they did, but the writers sure didn't!
