Just picked-up the new TV Guide - Fall Preview today and three things got me thinking.
1st. Not one word on the new Galactica mini that I could see.
2nd. Even though work on Carnivale took place after Galactica, as far as I know, it is going to air on Sept. 14 on HBO.
3rd. This is the big one, HBO will be airing a miniseries call "Angels in America" some time this season. This is a six hour miniseries that cost HBO $60 million. So way is the four hour Galactica only costing $14 million? Can we say cheep?
$60mil / 6hrs = $10mil hr
$14mil / 4hrs = $3.5mil hr
Where's Tom DeSanto when you need him?

Not one word about the Galactica miniseries. I wonder why.

everything has been rather quiet over at scifi about the mini too. David has not answered any letters for a long time, No more trailers. Even the media publicity has had nothing to report for quite a while.
Do you think there has been a problem with production?

I am doubtful that there will be a cease order on the mini. I have heard rumors (RUMORS-please remember I am not an insider) that Paramount may have been investigating things. It is possible that there is a delay while the legal mucky mucks make sure their ducks are in a row. I think we will soon see another media blitz. Also rememeber that there is a changing of the guard in ownership and that seems to keep everything off balance for a spell in most cases. I would not get your hopes up until we hear some kind of insider leak.

Unless the SEC kills the deal, virtually all levels of Universal will be reviewed by NBC. That means current plans could be altered, projects killed or revamped. This being the digital age, it is possible the Mini could be redone with a new name. NBC may be more interested in a continuation than doing a “reimaging”. Our outcry against the new show should have been heard by them by now.
NBC is, as I understand it, real sticklers for details, all the I’s dotted and “T”s crossed. There marketing department should have picked up on the large scale objection to the Mini. This will be feed back to those taking a close look at the SciFi channel.
One more factor that could play in our favor. During a takeover such as this, an account is setup to cover the cost of acquisition. This is used to pay for separation packages and cancellation of projects no longer deemed appropriate. This was how Tom DeSanto’s project was disposed of. Once this account is setup it has to be spent, otherwise what ever is leftover is taxed.
There is still reason to hpoe.:D

I like repcisg's thinking. But I'm not holding my breath. I do keep wondering if we should send something friendly (party basket perhaps?) to the head of NBC once the SEC does sign-off on the deal.
One other thought: At the Egyptian, Larson stated he had won some rights to BSG (I'm assuming in court) the prior day. Anyone have access to any of the Lexis-Nexis type legal databases to see if we can sort out what the rights were? Did the silence begin close to Aug 22nd? Just one of those niggling questions.

Jewels... assuming that the NBC takeover occurs, that's where I want to focus the weight of the letter writing campaign.
Of course, I want all of those letters to demonstrate positive support for a continuation film.
Of course, if each letter were accompanied by a fruit basket...
I'm still waiting to hear back from some folks regarding the campaign before launching into another round of promotion.
As for all of this talk about NBC canning the mini... oh, it's SO enticing. I'd be so happy, I'd be ready to read every single one of Langautron's subsequent "I told you so" posts!
