There is a paragraph (barely) in this week's Entertainment Weekly, Sept 12, 2003 about the Abomination!!

Listed in the Calendar section, under December.

It mentions something about the original 2-season show being cheesy and that the new mini will feature the Colonials fighting "robots in space".

The interesting omission was the time and date of the show -- it just read "TBA".

Can't we get just a modicum of respect?

Don't worry BST it will be over soon. Maybe around the holiday season too many people will be busy doing other things that will not allow them time to view this horrid creation.
Yes, get it over and let us move on to bigger and better things.
Like maybe showing support for DeSanto/Larson:D

Was this submitted before or after Universal was sold to NBC? If it were after, then it could be the first sign of the plug being pulled.

Hard to tell, Michele. Vivendi made the announcement, regarding NBC being the auction winner, on September 2, 2003. I posted this on September 5, 2003. (The magazine edition was September 12, 2003).

Whatever the case, the timing is awfully close. I am encouraged, though, since the project, at the very least will get a close review by NBC. This is normal for any type of transaction like this. The purchaser will want to know "what they're getting into". Since the money has already been spent, NBC's interest will probably be in terms of fallout, i.e., negative publicity.

Maybe it would be a good time to send out those letters to NBC (Commander Taggart's project).

Anyone, any thoughts??

"Maybe it would be a good time to send out those letters to NBC (Commander Taggart's project)."

I think we should do both, one now stating how pissed off we are about the new miniseries, and one after stating how we want a continuation. that was he'll be watching the whole progress of this catastrophe over the next few months. And when we send our letters in January it will make our job easier because they'll already be familiar with the problem.

I agree, two hits at NBC. And referencing a more general forum like spacebattles.com thread Titon found: NBC might just remember how working with Sci-Fi fans is much more successful than working against.

On the time being missing: probably just editorial oversight, I hate to say :( and you don't even know just how wrong I prefer to be about that.

If the channel is sold to NBC they don't have to air the mini. The only thing required is that it is made. They could put it in a vault for a hundred yahren.

Jewels... and all... I agree that any fan should write whomever they'd like to write, whenever they'd like to write them.

I would only ask that they write again on 28 October 2003 and 2 January 2004. Showing NBC the numbers in January is going to be critical.

Both Ojai22 and I are hoping that this campaign will communicate positive support for a continuation film rather than become bogged down in mini-bashing, or even a TOS vs. miniseries debate... though I fully realize that some passionate hatred of the miniseries will find its way into many of those letters. Personally, I want to leave as little room as possible for NBC to dismiss us as zealots or loonies. Positive, supportive messages focusing on what we really want will make dismissal far more difficult.

The main thing is that we have identified two dates on which we should ALL write, and we all need to do it.

The timing is right, and we have a chance to speak loud and clear, with a unified voice. We need to avail ourselves of it.

Who and where do we need to write to? I'd love to get a chance to tell NBC to lock the mini away never to be seen agian and that I'd LOVE to see a continuation with original characters, themes, ships, and Actors all back where they belong!:cylon: Oh yeah, and REAL CYLONS!!!!

A two-pronged letter writing campaign has been confirmed for 28 October 2003 and 2 January 2004, aimed at expressing the overwhelming, unified support of the fandom for a feature film continuation of Battlestar Galactica helmed by producer Tom DeSanto and series creator Glen A. Larson. Your help is needed, not only in writing your own letters, but also in spreading the word about the campaign as far and wide as possible.

The first round of letters, aimed at DeSanto and Larson, should be mailed on 28 October 2003, in the immediate wake of Galacticon and the release of the DVD set. These letters (pen-and-paper letters, please; email should only be used to supplement a pen-and-paper letter) should contain positive messages of support on behalf of the fandom for a continuation helmed by these two immensely talented men, who have demonstrated a clear understanding of what makes Battlestar Galactica special, and who have demonstrated a clear understanding of what fans expect from a true revival of our beloved show. Letters should be sent to the following addresses:

Mr. Tom DeSanto
c/o William Morris Agency
151 El Camino Drive
Beverly Hills, CA 90212

Mr. Glen A. Larson
c/o Shapiro-Lichtman, Inc.
8827 Beverly Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90048

The second round of letters, aimed at Bob Wright, President and CEO of NBC-Television (the new owners of Universal Studios, which will need to work in tandem with Larson/DeSanto to create a big-screen Battlestar Galactica), and should be mailed on 2 January 2004, with the goal of having the letters hit the NBC mailroom on or about 7 January 2004, the one-month anniversary of the airing of SciFi's mini-series. The aim of these letters is to convince NBC that there is a ripe market for a true revival of Battlestar Galactica created by DeSanto and Larson. While the authors of these letters will have the ability to cite DVD sales figures and miniseries ratings figures in support of a continuation, the main message should be clear, and along the lines of:

"We support a continuation of the Battlestar Galactica saga, in the capable hands of series creator Glen Larson and prorducer Tom Desanto. If possible we would support the use of original cast members such as Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch. We are also open to other ideas as well."

Letters (again, pen-and-paper letters, please; email should only be used to supplement a pen-and-paper letter) should be sent to the following address on 2 January 2004:

Mr. Bob Wright
President
NBC
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, NY 10112

We encourage every fan of Battlestar Galactica to take an active role in making this letter writing campaign the most effective in Science Fiction history. Rising together, and speaking in one unified voice, we will realize our dream.

Please check in frequently for any updates.

Articles such as this are written months in advance and set aside for future publication. This thing could have been written before the air date was announced and not updated. Also magazines finalize an issue 1-2 months before it goes to press. So this is just old news.

If it's locked in a vault, maybe the warehouse will be hit by lightning??????
