View Full Version : Mini music?

I may have missed this topic somewhere along the line, but has there been any info released on the music and/or theme to be used in the mini series?

Surely the classic Galactica theme will remain, but it is it's style that worries me. Nothing less than a full orchestral effort will do for me personally, but I fear an el-cheapo electronic score will be evident.

I'm assuming Stu Philips would be in the loop should his original theme be used. A good question to ask him at Galacticon perhaps?

Any info out there?

Mike :warrior: (still passing 'round the hat for air fare ticket donations- I'll bring my Galactica, I promise!)

I doubt they will use any music from the original. They want to distance themselves from classic BG. I believe it was mentioned somewhere that synthesised music would be used.

Here is what I picked up a couple of weeks ago:

"Richard Gibbs from "Queen of the Damned" is signed on as the composer for the music of the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries. He also worked with BSG Director Michael Rymer on that film."

Re: Musical Score for Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series

Due to budgetary constraints, original plans for the musical score have been shelved.

The music will be provided by Larry, Darrell, and Darrell and their 3 Kazoo Band. Negotiations are currently being held to augment the band with Max the Organ Grinder but, have reached an impasse. Sources indicate that the negotiations stalled on Max's insistence that his pet monkey be allowed to play the tambourine.

While the instrumentation will differ from that of the Original Series, it follows the guidelines established by the producers of the show. To paraphrase, "We sought to re-invent science fiction and felt, why stop with the story, let's re-invent the music as well!"

Should be,.....um,....interesting.

Last Battlestar,

On a serious note, nothing could replace the Original Orchestral Score for the show.

It was MAJESTIC!

Well considering that this mini isn't Battlestar Galactica, I don't think they should use the original music.

Ron did say in his Q&A that he wasn't interested in the orchestra score. Sounds like it might be a synth version on the Casio keyboard. The original music was half in my opinion of what made Battlestar Galactica but Ron doesn't get what made Galactica in the first place so this doesn't surprise me.

He is good at pointing out all the things that he didn't like about it and that's exactly why he or many others shouldn't be any where near this project in my honest opinion.

Well said OWD. IMHO I don't want them to use anything associated with classic BG for their feldercarb of a show.

BST That was good. I'm surprised they didn't ask moe Larry and Curly to try to record the music for Galatica.:D

OWD is right. New music for a new show. If they used the music to the original it would be another slap in the face for us.

Exactly. The score really lifted the show into the grand, sweeping saga genre previously only seen in epic motion pictures didn't it?

My main beef is that an electronic score is only going to further cheapen the feel of the show. We all know Galactica was HUGE in scope and ambience. The score was definitely responsible for that IMO.

Man, that opening title sequence was great. My particular favourite is the secondary credit sequence showing the actors with that theme playing in the FOREground :)- very, very cinematic indeed and reminiscent of some classic Hollywood blockbusters.

What really gets me is the opening shot of the Galactica herself floating against the background of stars with that rousing yet sentimental score. She is our spiritual haven in space isn't she? Goosebump city for me my friends. Hell, I've got 'em just thinking about it! Damn, are we EVER going to see that again?

Bring on the motion picture. Nothing we can do to improve this cheapo version. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing it in some respects.

The fact that the BSG score WAS so MAJESTIC.........
PROVESSS that it does not deserve to be 'tacked' on
to the 'mini'
