A letter from Ronald D. Moore

Recently it has come to my attention that some people have been less than satisfied with my take on the new Galactica. I’m all for open views and opinions but calling my mother a wicked sea hag “from whence Ronald D. Moore was spewed” is just WAY out of line.

It was rude, unflattering and I want you people to stop. Ok, so you don’t like my take on Battlestar Galactica. All right, so I wrote a pile of shit and slapped the name “Battlestar Galactica” on it. But that’s what I do for a living. I live off the successes of other shows and pretend to re-create it. Does that make me Satan? Hitler? Michael Jackson? No. Of course not.

I admit I don’t have a solid original bone in my body. But I love science fiction too. I grew up with shows like Star Trek and Galactica and porn films. I was inspired and my calling for being a writer called me callingly in a calling sort of calling. It’s my calling.

I am REALLY astonished over what you people think is the crime of changing one character gender for another. Granted, my idea to make Adama into an animated talking banana was off the mark and I admit that. But for Christ’s sake all I did was change Starbuck into a woman. Last I heard removing a penis and replacing it with a vagina isn’t a crime (except of course in Louisiana and certain parts of Asia).

I want be extend my olive branch to you Battlestar Galactica fans by inviting you all to my home and showing you that I’m just like any regular, every day normal fan. You will see I have the same problems you do. Like wondering when my next million dollar check is coming from, which color Jaguar to drive in the morning and whether or not my Caviar will be at 72 degrees Celsius.

To prove this point I’ve decided to open CAMP COBOL. It will be an immersive Galactica experience. A literal hands-on place where fans of classic (and hopefully the NEW classic) Galactica can come and experience a universe of interactive fun. I conclude this open letter with the text of the CAMP COBOL flyer which will be made available. Anyone wishing to create the graphic to this flyer is welcome to do so.

I hope we can all be friends.

Once again STOP IT YOU MOTHER F****RS!

DO YOU LOVE CLASSIC BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?

THEN HAVE WE GOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!

Ravisholpusar,

I happen to know Ron Moore. I'm not a friend but could be one if we were geographically close. I totally disagree with what he's done to Galactica and have said so fairly directly but this sort of thing seems pretty out of line to me. Just because the man is a public figure, it doesn't mean that he shouldn't be treated with at least minimal respect.

I don't find this funny at all.

Two-Brain:

I share a personal relationship with God and I still manage to poke fun at him (and he hasn't struck me down with lighting yet).

Public figure not withstanding, there isn't a single figure in the history of HISTORY that hasn't been made fun of for what they did or didn't do.

I will continue to poke fun wherever my poking finger finds a place to poke.

Although I am not geographically close to God, I'm sure even with my humour we are good friends despite the long distance relationship.

In short -- lighten up.

:-)

Bravo RP!

I hope you sell a screenplay someday! A script about how god was fed up with Hollywood and went to open up a Tequlia shot bar in Butt Fingerfork(say it with an Accent) Spain. Your Citizen Kane analogy is correct. so is the Camp Cobol. I can see it now.

Moore: Yeah I changed Kobol to Cobol a "K" to a "C" Just for dramatic story angle. You see also it is a part of my past,I cant say the letter C,when I was a small boy I was bitten by a Bat.

Interviewer: A Cat?

Moore: No a Bat.

Interviewer: Oh well can you say the letter K?

Moore: Ohhhh Suuure. Kinky,Kind,Kettle,KKK,Kinetic,...Knightley! Hmmmmm Keira KnightleyHmmmmmm.

Oh 2 Brain? Your Comment was about as sobering as getting my toungue slammed flat by a meatmallet, then having an arrow pierced through it,only to find that there's a gas bill is attached to it.

Looking forward to more of your post/tyrades RP.

Put you Fazors on Fun!!

Just for dramatic affect.

I didn't realize your guys superior status and divine right to be complete and total jerks.

Sorry. Now I know better. I'm sure God is very, very proud of you. I can see where any supreme being would love to be associated in the manner you've just descibed.

Please carry on. I know the entire fanbase will greatly benefit from your humor.

Folks we need to move on. I believe that we can achieve our goals if we act calm, cool, and collected. We can move mountains. I have faith enough for all of us. Give me a HELL YEAH if you agree.

Raveshol... when I saw the subject of your post, I thought it truly might be an open letter from Ron Moore.

I was sickened when I realized it was a fabrication.

Two-Brain is right... this was over the line.

I personally enjoyed your Citizen Kane posting... but that's as close to the line as I think you can get and still be "funny."

The avatars with a bullet through Ron Moore's head, even the references to him as MooreRon, and your letter are unwarranted personal attacks, and are far from "funny."

I don't like what Moore and Eick have done to Galactica any more than you do. I have a lot of problems with Ron Moore's rationalizations in defense of the changes he's made, but these personal attacks only contribute the stereotyping of the fanbase as a bunch of irrational cretins who are too over the top to possess an ounce of credibility.

By the way,

Kobol is spelled with a "K."

OK let me get this straight,...Ahem, I am a Jerk because I like to laugh and make fun, BuUUUUUUUUUUT R D Moore is a saint (or lesser jerk)just because he collects a check has a WGA card, and belts out some Next Generation drek that fans of that show would suck up their noses with a straw?

God gave us the right to laugh, even RD Moore, Pity he didnt give you the heads up on the attribute.

This world is indeed freaky!

No one said Moore was a Saint. Just a human being, deserving of at least a minimum of basic human respect.

Classic overstatement of case. Demonstrates a lack of rational thought.

When you overstate you case, it is impossible to respect your position. It is as counterproductive as the "letter from Ron Moore" was unfunny.

Wow. I am humbled. I've been attacked. I had my satire taken as though it were a holy artifcat. Can you imagine that.

That's great. Keep 'em comin'. If I dish it out I should be able to take the more serious comments from the gang. Satire can be construed as serious or funny. The outcome is laughter or downright attack.

I welcome it. And look forward to more good or bad.

PS:

TWO BRAIN: You can also spell Jerk like JURK /JORK/ JIRK

The english language is an amazing thing. Even a jerk such as myself can explore the myriad of endless permutations.

But SATIRE is a word you need to fully explore. Some like it some don't. I will continue my tirade with the full knowledge that I have hit a nerve. Please feel free to use satire in your rebuttles. You might sound like you're actually saying something.

In the meantime

KINGFISH: HELL YEAH!

Satire can be a wonderful thing in the hands of a writer who truly understands its subtlies, and one who can grasp the difference between wit and tastelessness.

I would suggest you start you training with The Collected Works of Mark Twain.

BTW, It was I, not Two-Brain, who pointed out your misspelling. Attention to detail is another hallmark of talented writer.

By they way, that is called "irony." An important component in "satire."

Commander Taggert:

Ha ha hA ha hA ha HA ha ha ha!

Wow. Thank you for your retort. Did you know "imbecile" is a component of "moron"?

Sorry. I over stated myself once again. I beg your forgiveness. Please please please, please forgive me.

As to my mispelling, In the words of Oscar Madison: "I create, you correct."

PS: Mark Twain sucks. I prefer George Carlin.

Drifting off course again, aren't we?

Although this has not been stated directly as of yet, it's only a matter of time before the subject comes up so, now is as good a time as any.

Freedom of Expression:

ravisholpulsar, you absolutely have the right to post whatever you wish, so long as it does not violate the Forum rules.

At the same time, others have the right to express their displeasure with what you've written without being slammed for doing so. What I'm stating is not a defense for Two-Brain and Commander Taggart, they don't need any defense. They have the right to express their feelings.

Now, I'm going to weigh in on the subject by saying that I didn't care for this either. I don't really think of this as satire, it had way too much venom!

BTW, I LOVED your Citizen Kane post, it was absolutely stellar and I stated as much in my reply.

One more thing -- HEY Kingfish:

HELL YEAH !!

Ravishol and Blue Mule (but mostly Ravishol),

If this is your claim to fame then I feel pity for you. I recalled you as being a fairly respectable poster but have abandoned that opinion after reading these reactions.

For me, you haven't "hit a nerve". You're a jerk. You think you can strike a point by continuing to be a jerk. Continue doing so. Pretty soon you'll be urinating all over the floor and complimenting yourself on your artistic creativity. Whatever makes you feel better. The sheer fact that you can't see why this was out of line and be man enough to admit your oversight says nothing about Ron Moore or your sainthood charge, nothing about me or Taggart, but speaks volumes about you.

I think Ted/Apothis and the rest of the Milton Collective would welcome your association. You have the same mindset of blaming others for your own unacceptable behavior. Now all you need to do is make a declaration on some higher purpose you've achieved with your conduct and you're there!

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I think people who have no regard for others as human beings and are so cowardly they masked their attacks under the cover of "humor" or "satire" are simply pathetic. If you're going to act in this manner, at least be man enough to admit it without blaming others. Try that before you give any more advice, hero!

Please, continue your tirade and show us all what a big man you really are.
