At times I don't know what to think about the fandom including myself. We all love BG. I know we can't be rabid as others say. Do we take our love for BG too far however? When I read that some have sent hate mail it makes me wonder. Now if you read everyone of my posts you can see that I am not in favor of the new production and always hoped for a continuation above all else. "There are always possibilities." Sending hate mail IMHO is a waste of time and paints the entire fanbase. I can understand how everyone is hurting over the new show. I am sick as well. A long wait and then we are hit with a show that is totally different than the one we expected. Disappointments are a part of life however. We fought a great fight. The fact that Olmos is mentioning us shows that we exist. Bonnie was wrong when she said there were no TOS fans around. We are here like the Vorlon in fact we have always been here. We will fight until there is no more fight left in us.

Have we received any confirmation about the hate mail yet? "Hate mail" was said by a reporter, not Olmos. Seems to me that if he got a lot of personal hate mail his comments would have been a bit different. "Strong mail" in opposition to the mini series, sure. Actual personal "Hate Mail?" I kind of doubt it he got much if any. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if he does start getting some real hate mail now from the fake people who like to make us look bad. If so I hope he reports it to the proper authorities, which is what I think he would have done if he had received any before.

Kingfish -

I agree with you - I wonder what those people are doing sending Mr. Olmos hate mail. What did he do other than do a job that he was paid to do. Even so, he still spoke out against those that had paid him when he realized what the fan reaction would be.

I am quite frustrated myself with the route that the SciFi Channel has taken, but I do not support such ugly tactics as hate mail. Rarely do such tactics get any results other than hurting the wrong people. That, and color the perception of the group (us) in a less than positive light. You can see that when the media refers to us as "rabid"....

I keep wondering what will happen at ComicCon in San Diego when staff and talent from BG03 will be present. Will the fans of BG represent themselves well and state their case intelligently, or will the equvalent of throwing tomatoes and insults be the result? Considering that our Mr. Hatch will be present, if things get ugly, it won't really accomplish anything other than damaging his crediblity.

We claim to support Richard's efforts, but if the fanbase winds up looking like a pack of wild animals - would that be something that someone would want to be allied with, or distance themselves from?

I wonder how all this will turn out in the end - I guess that we will have to wait until December and see...

My best to all,
Bryan

Well there's several possibilities here:

1) olmos received genuine hate mail (I highly doubt this)

2) he received honest passionate letters against the remake, and he overreacts and interprets them as hatemail.

3) The people who are using multiple handles sent him hate mail in an attempt to make fandom look bad.

4) any combinations of the above

I any case I believe #2 is the most likely at this point. Or at least that is what the bulk of the mail expressed. The reason I say this is because of his remark, complaining about "tens of thousands of people who write each other every day over a show that has not been on the air in 25 years, and is not even in re-runs."

I think it's fairly obvious he doesn't think very much of us to begin with, add disapproving mail to that, and he probably just reacted. Not to mention A/O was right, it was the reporter who called it "hate mail," not Olmos himself. So who knows what the real cvontent of the letters are.

Whatever the case, we need to continue pushing. Now is not the time to waffle. We're on a wave and we need to ride it out all the way.

Percentage-wise, as a fan-base, I strongly suspicion that we BG-Faithful generate one heck of a lot less "hate-mail" than other hard-core fan-groups.
